How is it missing the point completely? Would you have traded me Gaudreau and a 7th for a 2nd and a 4th? If not, I don't think you have a point.

I just love that Luc keeps chiming in about a keeper slot too when that final keeper spot of mine would have gone to someone like Atkinson, Gardiner or CARTER HUTTON haha and now it's Tarasenko. Well worth a couple of picks for that upgrade.

(Anyways, I recognize it's a risky trade especially since he's coming off an injury but I needed to start picking up some top end keepers if I want to compete in the next couple of years and Tarasenko is definitely one of those. Sometimes you gotta pay to get the guy you want. Either way, I plan to be much more active this year so that's a good thing).
CRD was negotiating in a position of weakness, It's not just about your keepers, it's about his. My friend.

CRD is masterful at trading, he knows how to play the game as good as possible, It's no reason he is good every year.

I totally understand why you did the trade, just think you overspent a bit as CRD should have been negotiating from a position of weakness, but wizard.

While Luc is just repeating what SC is saying, you guys are arguing under a false premise that I MUST trade Tarasenko, in which of course, I didn't.

If CaptainBo wanted Tarasenko, that would have been at minimum, the price he would have to pay. I would have been totally fine in keeping Tarasenko as my 3rd ranked keeper. I wasn't negotiating from a position of weakness, 100%. Other players were available but the upgrade certainly would be much smaller. This is a deal that gives CaptainBo a potential franchise keeper, and to not even get a 1st from him is astonishing on my part.

I think Bo did reasonably well to get a quality fantasy player like Tarasenko to bolster his keeper list, and CRD did well to replenish some lost picks. He didn’t need to trade Tarasenko, but he got good value for value. I’d certainly be willing to trade one of my better keepers for some quality picks if the right trade were to arise, because I need more picks, and I like some of the players I’m going to end up dropping. Overall this trade is pretty even in my estimation.

Literally nobody else gets such value for spare parts...
He keeps finding a way

I get what you are saying, but I wouldn’t really consider Tarasenko “spare parts”, when I look at Bo’s keepers now I definitely don’t view Tarasenko as a spare part. But CRD has enough top end players that it can be perceived that Tarasenko would be one of his spare parts.

Meh... this is what our CBA hoped to do was promote transactions and league activity. I don't really feel the trade was that poor given the context of what our leagues rules are.

Although this sets a precedent in the market now.

I wouldn't really say it sets a precedent. The 'rule' was meant to encourage transactions but it's actually really damn hard to move keepers at this time of the year, as everyone else is trying to move their extra guys so it's entirely dependent on how many spots are available. Value is also extremely low at this time of year, so the more prudent thing within the rules would be to trade mid-season... but that means you'd have to trade your key guys in the middle of a playoff run. Just because some people think the league is more exciting when there are more trades.

And now that I'm at the point of being forced to trade to appease the peanut gallery or to lose players, Backstrom this season and one of Kessel or Josi next (will have to franchise Vasilesvkiy), well screw you guys the A-Team is going on a trade boycott. All trade offers and inquiries will be rejected, I'd rather straight up lose guys than be forced to participate in giving some the satisfaction from seeing 'exciting' trades.

I'm not angry, but I can be petty and vindictive about these things so yes I'm going to nag and complain about it every summer and now go on a trade strike. Not in attempt to change the rule but just because it makes me want to be petty and vindictive

I think it's hilarious how the same people that curse me out for undervaluing players at the deadline are now complaining about Tarasenko being over-valued in the off-season. I thought about going into the specifics of why I feel this way, but I think I'd rather just let people use flawed strategies. It's this kind of logic that made people think Marchand for a 5th was too expensive 3 years back - ridiculous.

Both CRD and Bo are better off as a result of this trade. If I had a weak keeper slot I would've made a similar offer to Bo's.

Since I raged against the trades so much, I thought it'd be interesting to see what Luc did on the whole last year via trade (i.e. what actually ended up mattering, now that we know his keepers). I have only included picks aquired for/from keeper trades. He traded:

McDavid
Malkin
Gaudreau
Hamilton
Bergeron
LB 1st
SC 2nd
LB 3rd
LB 4th
5th Round

for

Blake Wheeler

Brent Burns
Torey Krug
Tuukka Rask
CRD 1st Round
Vanilla 4th
Canucker 5th
Balls 6th
nameless 10th
