Neither Castillo' nor Craig's contract count against the salary cap as they are in the minors and therefore have no (negative) impact on the lucury tax at all. We couldn't care less as long as Henry is willing to bite those bullets.

Still disappointing that both have had zero value for us.

That is true, but would be nice to get rid of them anyway along with Sandoval. Thankfully they can decline on Craig after this season then he is gone. Castillo and Sandoval, well maybe by some miracle we may be able to trade them even if the Sox have to eat 50% of the salary.

I genuinely did not know that.

So if Craig starts hitting in the minors and Moreland or Hanley aren't, we'd have to go over the tax to call him up?

I still can't believe they moved the Braves out of Boston.

Boston Red Sox -- Grade: A

Offseason goals: Bullpen depth, DH, elite starting-pitcher.

Key acquisitions to date: LHP Chris Sale, RHP Tyler Thornburg, 1B Mitch Moreland.

Red Sox president and GM Dave Dombrowski checked off all of his offseason goal boxes in a single day during the winter meetings, making the offseason’s biggest blockbuster deal in acquiring a true ace in Sale from the White Sox, picking up a top set-up reliever in Thornburg in a swap with the Brewers and then reaching into free agency to sign Gold Glove first baseman Mitch Moreland on a one-year contract. The Red Sox are the most improved AL team on paper this offseason and are now arguably the best team in the league.

Red Sox adding 2 more rows of seats between dugouts

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/lo...sox_willing_to_squeeze_fielders_for_new_seats

Patrons with seats in the current first two rows between the dugouts will retain their claim to premium Dugout Box seats in the two new rows. Seventy-eight such seats will be added between the dugouts at a price of $225 each per game, generating $1.4 million in additional revenue per year.

Fourteen new first-row Dugout Box seats will be added adjacent to the visitors’ dugout on the third base side and 32 more seats will be added on the right field side of the Red Sox dugout. Prices will vary, but at an average of $380 each per game, those seats will generate another $1.4 million per season for the team.

Buchholz to Philly.

Not sure that's the move I would have made, but I obviously don't know what was offered for any other SP.

Well, first and foremost it was probably a money thing.

Nobody should shed any tears over this one. Just never know what you will get from him.

Salary dump. Have no idea how this impacts their luxury tax standing but weren't they adamant about getting under that threshold?

Good luck to Clay; he had some good years here. 10 years is a long time to be with one team these days and I thought overall, he was alright. He had two dominant years, but just could never stay healthy enough to build off them.
