Good question. My question is are Fenway and the rest of you going to be at Game 4 of the WS when the BoSox sweep the Cubs?

He seems to average around 60~ innings a year giving him about 275k~ per inning of work.
I've always been skeptical of how Sale was going to hold up, but if he maintains his health then I love the deal for the sox. They keep the prospect who is a natural 3B and potentially a better all around hitter in Devers, and that's really the only spot not locked in for the future. They keep the guy (Groome) who Projects more as a starter than Kopech does.
Moncada and Kopech both have legitimate question marks- I'm high on both of them though. They are insanely talented. Moncada has a lot of refinement to do with his plate approach and batting righty. Kopech struggles with the strike zone on occasion and may be a 2 pitch guy- ultimately that profile often time leads to the back end of the bullpen. I think he will end up a starter though.
I've always been high on Basabe, but he's so far away and blocked anyway. Incredibly toolsy. Diaz throws hard and turned a corner halfway through last year. He could end up a late inning reliever and he could do it in potentially short order
But In the end the sox wanna go for it and have an established young nucleus anyway. Sale makes them the AL favorites. Thornburg adds another quality arm in the BP. Moreland is a professional AB looking to bounce back- he's got some pop. I looked at his spray charts and it seems like he should do well in Fenway. It wouldn't shock me to see a Moreland/Travis platoon-type situation at some point provided Travis makes it back healthy.
I'm excited.
Still need 3B insurance IMO. Maybe they think Hernandez can do that.

Can't get out of my mind the fact that Dombrowski spent years in Detroit spending and overpaying for players and pillaging their farm system. Then end result was one pennant and a bunch of meaningless division championships/losing playoff appearances. This is his M.O. I'm happy with the Sale trade too, and Dombrowski will make him a $30m man in a couple of years. But I think he will leave the cupboard bare in a few years with very little to work with.
Better hope they win in the next couple of years.

They'd lose the 1st this year since he was qualified, but I was under the assumption the draft picks and international signing bonus money was applied for next year if they went over the luxury tax.
So in essence you lose your 1ST in June's draft then a 2nd, 5th, and international money for the 2018 draft.

I hear what you are saying, but is it fair to blame DD for putting together a team that went to three consecutive ALCS's, just didn't get the ultimate job done? Seems more like bad luck than anything else.

Merloni went on an interesting rant on WEEI the other day, outlining DD's time in Detroit.
I don't remember the specifics of each deal but the overall tone of the rant was that Detroit's owner put him in "Win Now" mode when he was hired and the deals he made did, in fact improve the team...bringing in Cabrera, among others. He also pointed out that their ML team did not have the young talent at that time, as this Red Sox team does.
While the farm system obviously took a hit....they significantly upgraded at 2 key positions this week, still have a very young, talented nucleus and their farm system hasn't been entirely gutted.
Plus, by the time they need to make significant replacements at the major league level, they will have had 2-3 drafts to address those areas.

Koji officially left the building. He will always be one of the main faces of the great and sursprising WS-trophy campaign of 2013. This must have been one of the most dominant RP performances ever, he's been fun to watch that year (and in general). How he toyed with the batter throwing 89 mp/h and his devastating splitter. And he's a class act.
If they had agreed to expand the roster to 26, I imagine the Sox would have been more serious in re-signing him, but he's a risk they probably cannot afford.
The Cubs gambled, but Koji and Davis is on paper a great 8-9 punch. Not sure I'd take any other tandem over them when healthy,

Dombrowski is doing what he is supposed to be doing with the prospect currency we have- using it to make us a bonafide contender. We are still more or less set long term at every position other than 3B (and even then Devers can be up in 2 years) so they might as well sell high on some prospects rather than hoping the grape doesn't die on the vine
Plus they still have 2 premium prospects in Groome and Devers. I don't think every team can say that.

Really wish the Sox could get rid of the contracts of Craig and Castillo, talk about dead weight.

Even being able to shed one of them would be immensely helpful, though Craig's contract is thankfully done after this season as the Sox can decline the team option for 2018.
Castillo is the killer though, he's signed through 2020, and even though he has an opt out after 2019, why would he even think of taking that at this point. I still think he can be a servicable player, but that contract is literal dead weight on this team with the new luxury tax rules.

Neither Castillo' nor Craig's contract count against the salary cap as they are in the minors and therefore have no (negative) impact on the lucury tax at all. We couldn't care less as long as Henry is willing to bite those bullets.
Still disappointing that both have had zero value for us.
