They did that for optics purposes. Didn't want to be known as the organization that fired a guy fighting cancer. Can't really blame them for that, no?

thats the problem, the ownership group cares way too much about appearances and PR instead of whats best for the team.

no excuse for hanging on to a manager who in 5 years finished 4, 4, 1, 5, 5 in the division...with the 1 being an extraordinary circumstance where the bombing fueled that team to heights well beyond their talent level.

especially with a replacement as good as Lovullo sitting there in your dugout

I don't blame them for not firing him when he came back. Sure it's PR, but I think any organization does the same. Has to.

The problem was the Red Sox knew this situation was coming. They paid Lovullo a lot to be bench coach thinking he was next up, and when they had the chance to make that decision at the end of last year they just kicked the can down the road. That was DD's judgment call, and I think it proved to be the wrong one. DD could have made a tough but shrewd call and instead he whiffed.

Making matters worse, every bullpen guy and pitcher DD trades for seemingly needs surgery within a month. Also not a great thing. Wait a second...Lonnie could be right. Maybe DD isn't so super.

As tough as it may have been, they should have fired Farrell and hired Lovullo as head coach. Seemed to me that the players loved playing for Lovullo.

Also, with this report that came out that certain players in the clubhouse feel that Farrell doesn't have their backs .....

Price apparently stormed out during game so he could avoid media. My hope is he gets so fed up with Boston that he opts out after next year. Probably won't happen but a man can dream.

Hell baby
I'm not so worried about his triple A numbers, or anybody's numbers in a rehab assignment for that matter. Results aren't the priority. He's going to be working on a number of things. Tonight his arm strength wore down in the last part of his outing and he had bad command the entire game. The guy is still rusty. I hope they do not bring him up for his next start- He needs at least 1 more in AAA, and probably 2 tbh

Good win tonight

Brad Hand is on the market. Left handed setupman at his peak value? prepare for dombrowski to move devers and groome for him

I bag on farrell as much as the next guy, so I'll give credit when credit is due. Outside of perhaps sending sale back out there after that looooong 7th, every decision he made last night was gold. The rangers on the other hand sure made a few head scratchers.

He's not stupid. No one is giving him 30 mil now. We can dream. Love me some used Tampa players.

What happened with David Price's attitude? I remember only great things when he was in Tampa, Detroit and Toronto. Everybody loved him. In Boston, however, he acts like a child.

He hates Boston, not sure why he came here. I'd take happiness over every last dollar, but I guess athletes don't consider this..
It seems that way. Boston is not for everyone. But he's getting paid a **** load of money, he should own up and show face instead of running and saying dumb stuff. It only makes him look worse. I still think he'll do really well, but that all depends on how much he wants to in Boston.

He has never liked Boston. He hated the Sox when he was playing for the Devil Rays. He should have never come here. Some other team would've given him the money. If his arm was good, this stuff wouldn't be happening. He's got tons of miles on that arm. They are just delaying the surgery IMO. They also don't have the balls to tell him to stop tweeting. This guy is a mess.

It seems like every two years or so, they pick up a stupid contract. One year in and we are all think how long do they have this guy for?

Here the thing with Price though, it's a lot of money, but if he gets right, he's still a good pitcher. Crawford had disaster written all over it, and it's no surprise that he was essentially out of baseball three years after they traded him.

It's a good thing the Red Sox don't give big contracts to pitchers over 30, Lester would be killing us right now:laugh:

What bothers me the most is the decision making because of the PR. It's almost like they can't make a simple baseball move. It's all about the splash and jersey sales it seems.
