I really don't know who is the biggest mess. Mets, Royals, Giants, and Blue Jays all make strong cases. Thor injury and now problems with Harvey.
The Tigers blew another save. The Cubs are only one game above .500. They'll win the division, but if they keep playing like this I don't see them winning any playoff series.

Harvey is perceived as being good by casual fans, but the last 2 seasons he's had a 5 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and a .272 BAA. A couple years ago like many athletes he had a corporate sponsor and was doing an interview. He thought that meant you were only supposed to talk about the sponsor and not talk about anything else, so he refused to answer normal baseball related questions for the entire interview.

Wish i could have seen it but all of a sudden nesn doesn't work on my tv. Not even standard definition. Somehow i need a technician to come here on tuesday even though every other channel works just fine. Makes no sense.

Sounds like you must have pissed off God.

Only the Sox could outscore a team by 20 runs in a 3 game series and not sweep.

Same thing happened at my house and xfinity can't figure out the issue. Sometimes NESN HD works. other times the feed comes in all scrambled, BUT mine always works fine on the non hd channel...

In Atlanta we'll be able to get rid of their broadband and get Google Fiber (one GB per second). Lackey has been cold so far for the Cubs:
ERA WHIP BAA
5.14 1.40 .282

Hell baby
Pomeranz velocity keeps dipping and that's a problem

Might be why he's throwing a **** ton of curveballs. I bet that elbow is gonna need surgery...it seems inevitable at this point

No Dombrowski has perfect insurance for now. Put the blame on Farrell and fire him.

No doubt, but he can ride the scapegoating of Farrell for so long before it comes back to him. He's the guy who went out and traded top prospects for Pomeranz. He's the one who spent the money on a guy that likely needs TJ surgery. He's the one that brought in bullpen arms that have not pitched for the team two years running. He's the guy that moved more prospects for Sale (not saying that it wasn't worth it, just listing moves that haven't yet panned out). He's the guy who didn't replace Papi's bat. The budget for this team come with lofty expectations. At some point, it will fall at his feet.

Who's the guy who could?

Mitch Moreland's been a pretty good middle of the lineup lefty so far. He also improves the team in the field.

I get the knock on Dombrowski and to be honest, I think the bullpen failures are a major issue. As is the Pomeranz trade and the refusal to undo it. But the Sale trade is certainly defensible, if not tremendous. I have no allegiance to the guy, but I think at the very least he gets through next season to take this team to the next level.

As for Farrell, I think he was days from being fired before he got the diagnosis, and I've never been confident in him. The team is playing sloppy, unenthusiastic baseball and basically .500 with a loaded roster. Sure the starting staff injuries are a valid excuse, but this is a results-oriented business. They're still kicking the ball around. If the goal here is to compete for a World Series this year they can't afford to wait too long for guys to get healthy and hope that's the only problem.

In other news, Yoan Moncada has been hot garbage for the White Sox. 12 strikeouts in 19 at bats :help:

Seeing as it's only money, and they clearly were loading up on pitching, why not throw some of that cheese at a more productive guy like Encarcion? Would have been a far better replacement in terms of power and RBIs, no? And yes, I get he signed a 4 year deal, but it's really a 3 year deal with a $5mill buyout in year 4 if he goes south. Surely the Sox could have afforded a 3 year deal, no? I mean crap, they threw the same kind of dough at the fat panda to play 3rd, and he can't even stay on the field.

Have not previously posted in this thread but upon reading this New Your Post article thought others posting here would be interested in reading Ortiz comments on Valentine's time as the Red Sox former manager. Ouch!

http://nypost.com/2017/05/11/david-ortiz-goes-scorched-earth-on-bobby-valentine-in-new-book/

Valentine responded to Ortiz's comments.

from cbssports.com:

Valentine responded to Ortiz's criticism during an appearance on the "Tiki and Tierney Show" on CBS Sports Radio and CBS Sports Network on Thursday. Here's what Valentine had to say about Ortiz believing the Red Sox were "going to have an absolutely terrible year" in spring training 2012:

"Well, I wish he told me three weeks into the season instead of hugging me all the time when he saw me! Yeah, that was a weird situation. I don't know how it could have been about me in spring training, but I've heard a lot of those general comments. But whatever. I hope he sells a lot of books. I hope I help him sell some."
