Speculation: 2017 Offseason/Expansion Draft Part II

Doesn't Oshie play RW? How does that make a LW/C Rico expendable?

I think Rico brings back a decent defensemen and hopefully Oshie replaces Rico's scoring. As for where he plays the Devils haven't drafted a right wing in years, until last year when we took Bastian & Anderson, I believe. FYI Didn't realize Oshie is 30, he still looks like a kid but is a bit older than I thought.

I'd only think about moving Rico at this point if we add Hischier or Patrick.

It's one of our very few options to get decent defensemen. And I agree that I would only consider it if we draft top 2. Leafs are ready to dangle JVR. We need to be in the game if we can. Signing UFA's is great if you get the guy. But the Devils will have to over-pay.

You are basing it all on the kids working out before some of them have even played a NHL game.

That is an unnesscary risk for a team that needs every single point right now.

What about Clowe (mentioned this in a earlier post)?
Vegas needs to hit the cap floor
His $4.85 for 1 more yr is only on paper and helps Vegas get there without out of pocket cash they can use elsewhere
We don't give up a player, hell we probably get a pick from LV.
We have more cap money to spend and or take on a contract for additional assets.
Yes its got some NHL17 in it but it also has some reality.
OR we offer Clowe and a pick for one of the good D Vegas will undoubtedly have (Minny D)?

Henrique isn't that good. That isn't an overreaction either. He's statistically bad on the Power Play. He's been a bad possession player for years. He's just average scoring on the 5 on 5. This guy is ideally a 3rd liner. Losing him would not be a loss in the slightest. He's replacement caliber.

Do you know what replacement caliber means?

Do you also know if he is replacement caliber that he would also have no trade value.

Yea he's a guy if we lose we wouldn't really miss a beat without. Our offense would still suck with or without him.

And I really don't think he has much trade value. Outside of here, he isn't a big name. Maybe some GM would be foolish to offer a lot thinking he's a premiere goal scorer, but if you're acquiring Henrique solely on what he brings to the table, then you wouldn't pay much as a GM.

He's playing out of position. He's not great, but I think you'd see a different player at wing.

I don't think Henrique alone brings back anything but as a centerpiece he could. He has selling points for a team looking for a forward.

Once we have the personnel to slot Henrique at LW, I think we'll see a much better player. And a much more effective goal scorer.

And that personnel is on its way. Zacha should be eased into C next year, and McLeod is in the pipeline. If we can land Patrick or Hischier, gravy.

Henrique won't be this lame duck, floating C forever.

Very good point, I agree.

I know people get frustrated with Henrique because of his inconsistency game-to-game but he's still a very good shooter and excellent PKer. He has plenty of value to this team that has trouble scoring up and down the roster. Put him at wing with one of the young centers (or even Zajac given their PK success together) and you'll probably see a more consistent player.

Yeah, I agree. Look what happened to Mikael Granlund when Boudreau slotted him at RW. I don't expect Henrique produces points in a similar style than Granlund but I'm sure he will be better than he is right now.

For the love of god, I just hope we can add players that can hold onto the puck, open up space for their teammates, and make plays.

Hall is that but he makes too many risky plays. Zajac is solid in this regard. Blandisi is surprisingly one of our better players at winning puck battles and opening up the ice. Bennett is good as well. That's really it.

But watching guys like Wood, Palmieri, Lappin, Henrique, Noesen, DSP etc. constantly lose board battles is maddening. Henrique has a use as a finisher, but he doesn't create space for his teammates, he just capitalizes on it. Same goes for Palmieri. Zacha is very good at this when he wants to be, but otherwise he's atrocious. Cammalleri was similar to Blandisi in being smart and methodical when battling for pucks, but he's been awful this year.

I wish Zacha had more patience with the puck. He treats it like a hot potato. It'll come with time but if he just held it and tried to make something happen more he'd be more effective.

My fear is that Zacha is shying away from contact due to his concussion problems. I believe he had a couple in the minors and one in the NHL. I can understand he's concerned about his career and this season is done. Just worried that it doesn't become long term because if it does he'll turn into a mediocre player at best.

The Wild will have to expose a solid forward and defenseman. While we really only need to protect 3 Dmen, leaving Moore available. What would Minny need from us for Zucker? It's far more feasible to obtain a forward because If we obtained Brodin, we would have to expose Merrill or Greene. Even if we obtained Zucker we could probably add another young exposed forward with potential and not risk much in our own exposure. Yakipov? Namestnikov?

Theres only 1 maybe 2 impact d-men on the market this summer. The rest are 4-6 d-men which we are full of.

Well I want us to offer Shattenkirk the biggest contract out of any team who's the only impact defensman. There are some top 4 guys available. A guy like Stone is very underrated because of being on the coyotes. Plus some older defensman who can still play maybe they'd take a short term deal. We can improve our defense without Shattenkirk that's all I know.

If we got Brodin I'd risk exposing Jon Merrill. His lack of production, even though he can play and injury problems will keep him safe. I'd be shocked if he was taken.
