Today, yes, in the future, probably not. They got younger, faster and more skilled. DeAngelo has incredible upside and with this pick the Rangers probably get a top 6 forward.

The team is not MILES weaker. They are weaker. If the Rangers use that cap space to sign Shattenkirk and Thornton to a short term deal they are better than they were last year.

The Rangers absolutely did not get spanked.

Dude..C'mon..I'm all about the future and I like DeAngelo but there's absolutely no reason to gut the team in the process of building it up especially with the amount of youngsters already on the team.
Now they're going to plug holes via FA just like they have in years past and where has that gotten them?

To be fair, their track record in the top 10 is absolutely awful.

This kid is pretty clearly going to be a productive NHL player. My problem is not him, he's going to be a good piece on this team for years. My problem is you trade a 1C for the 7th overall and don't take a shot for an elite player.

I'd rather not trade Step for "a shot" when there's also a safe and very good player available
