Personally, I don't feel Andersson is having a bad season at all. I can see where some people may have expected even more offense thus far, but I don't think he's been bad at all - especially on that team and in the role he's been used in.

I think he means racist because he only used the two swedish players to compare him. Instead of some North American or Russian or insert other nationality or race similar player that more represents his style of play more for instance. I think that's what he means by racist.

All being said, I have seen enough of this kid to see what kind of skills he is working with. And he lacks skill, lacks speed, lacks size, lacks vision, has some hockey sense. He is going to be a long work in progress. Hopefully Chytil bails him out a little and comes along faster and distracts from this fact. He is never going to be a first line center. Which is the whole point of the top ten. If you are not getting a top center or wing you get a potential elite defender. You don't take a guy with less skill because you can't get him at 21. Idiotic.

Also, in regards to being 19. By the time a player is 18 you already know what skills he is working with. You can already tell who potentially is going to be a great offensive player and who is not. You can see those tools. The guys who blossom later are rarely offensive dynamic offensive players and more second line and below level talents. There are guys that go undrafted or low rounds and blossom later like MSL but they are very few and far between. Usually the cream is always selected at the very top and they are all 18 year olds when they are drafted.

It was a bad comparison by McGuire (SHOCKER!). All McGuire knows is where players are born and where they played as 7-year olds. I don't think comparing a Swedish player to other Swedish players is racist. Anyway, Andersson should be judged after this season ends. He has the WJC still ahead of him. That's where we can truly see how he holds up.

Yea thats what I meant.. They do it with every team at the draft. Some now NA player gets drafted so they have to compare it to another player from that country......

It’s important to remember that Lias isn’t getting top PP time to help boost his offensive numbers a bit and Froluna has been a subpar offensive team this season.

I’m curious about how he’d look on HV71 where he and Tedenby would have been the go-to guys on the team. Maybe @Ola or @ManUtdTobbe can elaborate more since they’re our residential Swedes

His biggest obstacle is that Joel Lundqvist is on that team. There is literally no way he will get to the first PP unit or center the first line unless Lundqvist is injured.

To be fair, Andersson's game isn't THAT dissimilar to Quickie's. He just plays centre and has a top 6 offensive skillset (hopefully). But, no doubt, it was a lazy comparison by a poor analyst.

I think the fact that he plays a solid 2-way game and pays a more physical style can remind people of Fast. It's important to note that Fast also looked VERY good in the WJC's when he was there. I remember watching him play and thinking how quick and elusive he was in small areas. Very similar to how he rarely gets hit straight on because of his quick bursts of speed.

In saying that, Andersson at the same age is quite a bit more refined overall than Fast was. His stats and the eye-test clearly show him being the better prospect at the same age. His floor is most likely what Lindberg is or will be. a 3/4C who can provide some offense. His ceiling is probably Ryan O'Reilly.

This is an overlooked issue with the team that I've only seen actual Frolunda fans discuss: Lundqvist is not a 1C and is being aksed to play that role.

Lundqvist is the 1C based on his reputation, not based on his skill and what he shows on the ice.

He's always been a solid 2C and had a great year two years ago. But his play is slipping, and he shouldn't be the 1C on that team. I mean he's 35. Just like with Hank time catches up with us all.

Fast is such a smart defensive forward. He reminds me a lot of Jan Erixon, who was also a Swede but that's not why I compare them. Really quiet type players who make smart, small little plays that add up to big plusses for the team; meaning the puck going away from our net. I love players like that. Nothing flashy; just really smart, heady players.

As for Lias Andersson, I have no idea. I haven't seen him at all yet.

I agree with you to some extent. He has been a 1C, and not "only" a solid 2C, you have to look at more than the numbers when it comes to evaluating Joel. He has been a physical presence as well as responsible defensively, making him a tough opponent to play against. Him being the 1C this year is not purely based on reputation, Joel and Lasch worked together in the past and there was nothing wrong with putting them together to begin this season as well. However, this season he has not played as well as before, not geting his game going offensively, and should probably be played in another role.

The best playing C for Frölunda right now is Simon Hjalmarsson. If Joel would get replaced, I'd want him to play with Lasch. I'd rather have Lias than Hjalmarsson on PP1 though.
