So in the Cale Makar thread, you said 2 weeks ago you see him as a top 2 talent in the draft. Now you have Heiskanen. What happened in a week?

Because while I appreciate people who gather information from others and watch the players... there is either intellectual inconsistency at best or dishonesty at worst to call one player the next Karlsson and rank him top two and then bump him down a week later, because... reasons.

I just don't see how long term projections can change on a week by week basis, when at best the only difference is what other people have said to you.

Maybe because the goal isn't really to assess and rank future prospects? But instead to wind up with a 'final' list as close as possible to what unfolds on draft day?

LOL taking a dig at the "we" thing, its not a point scorer. Its cheap and a fallacy. Teams don't exist without fans. I'm a fan of a team first and foremost. Even they call us "we".

I don't doubt that Heiskanen is at the top or near the top of boards, he deserves to be, but your list is also an outlier. That counts for something. It would legitimately be a shocker to most of the hockey world if he's taken at #1 (I know, I know, aside from scouts). When is the last time that kind of shock happened at #1?

And I easily take that bet that Heiskanen is not #1 OA.

Cmon man, you know what he meant. You're not making the calls on draft day, none of us are. From what we know, some of the time even the scouts aren't. What you think is right for your team, and what the management thinks is right for your team, is probably way apart. I guarantee McCagg has more of a finger on the pulse of things than 99.9% of these boards. And I say this as Blues fan that completely disagrees with his assessment of what our team needs are and who we're going to take.

The Devils picking Patrick wouldn't be surprising at all, he's been the consensus #1 pick pretty much all year. But pretending like the Devils couldn't use Heiskanen just as much is pretty crazy. He's the real deal.

We? Is that you Ray?:) I'd be willing to bet when Shero woke up this morning he was hoping there'd be some way he could end up with Heiskanen..now he can. Not sure why he'd change his mind now Every NHL scout I know well has Heiskanen in their top 2...and they are all senior scouts.

I apologize if that's not what it says on the lists you look at....

How many NHL scouts do you know?

Cool mock. I don't think it's out of the question NJ goes with Heiskanen considering how weak their D is now they traded away Larsson. Then again, they still need offense and Hischier or Patrick would help alleviate that. But I think Heiskanen would fit very nicely with what they're building there, and I think he could be NHL ready already next year and in 2-3 years time be a guy who pushes the pace from the back end.

I like the picks 2-5 as well. I would think Philly would prefer Hischier over Patrick and Patrick would fit nicely for Dallas. Makar would be a risky pick for the Avs but with a huge potential payoff. Glass would be a great pick for the Nucks. Not sure about Vegas and Coyotes both passing on Vilardi. Vegas in particular would pass up their best chance at getting a #1C in the draft at that spot.

I also like to see Robert Thomas so high. Think he is going to be a massive draft day riser. Originally thought he might be a guy the Flyers would target with their pick, but then they won the lottery. I could totally see the Red Wings go for a guy like him, but then again do they pass on Liljegren/Necas/Pettersson for him?

As an Oilers fan, I like Robertson as the Oilers pick. One of my favorite options for the pick. His skating reminds me a lot of Draisaitl's and I think it's very fixable. LW is our weakest position in terms of depth so adding him would be great.

I can totally see Ducks picking Boqvist in the 1st as well. Feels like a typical Ducks pick. They just get great value out of these late 1st round picks. They don't seem to overthink it, just go with the best/most skilled player available and it pays off.

It's completely out of the question. It'll be either Patrick or Hischier.

Ahh I just saw the mock. Yea, I respectfully disagree. We need defense but there are other avenues to explore. This is a clear two-horse race and you have to go BPA, which will be one of Patrick or Hischier.

I mean, what is location, really

But what's the value in matching draft day? Isn't the real value in this kind of scouting being able to pick out who's going to be really good and who's going to be really bad, regardless of where they're drafted?

Can i ask why would a team pick Heiskanen at 1oa?

Well he's had a tremendous season and isn't too far away from Patrick and Hischier at this point. If a team really needed defense over forwards (NJ kinda do) and would also have a set forward prospect crop and a 1c for their future (NJ don't) then it wouldn't be too crazy. Devils' still really need a center to build on so Patrick or Hischier is the wise option for them.

His surge reminds me of Hampus Lindholm

Lindholm was an unexpected by Anaheim that turned out to be possibly the best player in the draft. He would be the best player in this draft

Not really, Lindholm was ranked in the mid first at draft day and remained underrated throughout the whole season. Heiskanen is in the talks of being the first overall pick. Represented the U18 National team last year as an underage so it wasn't like he was as anonymous as Lindholm ever was.

Lindholms development from the ages of 16-18 is insane.
