Sorry, Nizar. There were a lot of European prospects who got picked ahead, but it just didn't work out for us this year.

I see interviews with prospects of the Coyotes, Senators, Leafs, Jets on YouTube. Nothing on the Kings prospects. Seems doubtful we'll get much development camp coverage if there's no draft video coverage this year.

Guess it's time to get on with the day.

I guess according to Rosen, the Kings traded their 6th to the Islanders for their 2018 6th.

And barring any more trades, they are done.

That's pretty much it. We don't know who they were targeting in other rounds, but we do know there were Europeans on their radar at #11, they just pretty much all happened to get picked right before Vilardi fell into our laps. Given Blake's first (one of his first? forget) signing was Fantenberg, have a hard time buying this version of the organization is Euro-averse on purpose. Drafting IS different so maybe they just like to have more control over their development, but I'm not sure we can make that case quite yet (although we do know they love the CHL and college leagues).

Most teams want control over prospect development.

It's really hard to do that, when the player is overseas.

Some teams are drafting from Europe like crazy. Tampa loves Russians. Shero drafted most guys from Europe. Some interesting strategies nonetheless.

If Gabriel Vilardi works out, this draft was a huge success.

Kings lucked out, a True Blue Chip player fell to them.

Hell yeah, Damacles! Consensus on the main board is that we're on of the five biggest winners from day 1 (I get it, it's still early, but cool nonetheless).

Lots of top-10 team's fans ruing our selection! :D :naughty:

Sure. And you'll notice most of them are on the East coast, closer to home, instead of quite literally nearly halfway across the globe. TB is also attractive to Russians--as are Washington and Pittsburgh--due to high profile Russian stars in their organizations. You can argue it's a little bit of chicken-and-egg, but we also haven't had much luck with Europeans lately, so I don't want to see us drafting them just to draft them.

Really like our overall draft. Two top-end prospects with our first two picks, our #1 pick is immediately the best prospect in the whole organization at 17 years old. Drafted for need grabbing a goalie, even some potential upside in our lower end picks. 9+ out of 10 for Yannetti, Futa and company. Kudos to Blake for not doing a DL and reaching, trying to outsmart everyone.

I have never liked that pick, and so far he has done nothing to prove me wrong, however, with that being said, I hope I am.

He's rotting on the bottom lines of a friggin legendary KHL team, I don't think it's fair to call him a bust, though his development has certainly been stunted by lack of playing time. He's stagnant it seems.

The guy was getting 6.5 minutes a game last year, then got 12 in the playoffs, signalling maybe a bigger role; then this year he's back under 10 minutes and back to 7 minutes in the playoffs.

Seriously look at their roster--Voynov, kovalchuk, Datsyuk, even Porkins...ZERO development.

I'm biased because I was very intrigued with his skillset but this is just a case of the team not giving a **** about developing him and probably one of the prime reasons we don't often draft Europeans, no control over their development, can't force them to give him more instruction or playing time...

Happy for our draft.

Wish Vilardi got a little more benefit of the doubt from certain media types. No mention of his injuries at all, just bad skater rep.

Guess he fell for a reason. Hope he makes them all pay.

Yeah. The biggest remark people say is what a bad skater he is.

Nevermind the fact in what little I've seen, he keeps up with the play fairly well, and he had a ****in' knee injury to start the year.

He does seem to have a bit of the Toffoli thing going where his skating is just ugly but it gets him from point A to point B. I DO worry that even his highlights have him not really keeping gaps on skaters chasing him but if there's something that's 'fixable' it's skating. And yeah I can't imagine it's fun coming back from those injuries/surgeries, yet most articles point out his skating is much improved, so there's hope!

The #11 spot seems like a sweet spot. Top two or three are pretty much set, then you have a slew of prospects that are pretty close. At #11, it's just enough rope for some GM's to outsmart themselves, letting a gem slip through to us. Vilardi really does remind me of Allison.

Nizar, Tampa Bay looks towards Europe more than most as Yzerman is building the organization to primarily play that style of hockey. The organization is made up many smaller, highly skilled players who try and rely on their skills to get past their opponents. There are exceptions, but the so called "big body" players playing for Tampa Bay are the exception rather than the norm. He forgets having players like Probert, Kocur, and McCarty protecting his back when he was playing, instead forcing his star players defend themselves or relying on players who are little more than punching bags to their opponents. As a former Tampa Bay fan, it was very discouraging to see the change in their play style. Their head coach, Jon Cooper, has always had one or two capable bodyguards for his team. Until getting the Tampa Bay position that is. Now he has to rely on players like Pacquette and Brown to play enforcer, a role they are in no way capable of doing.

I've got nothing, but all I can think about with this player is bust.

Pretty familiar of that team he played, Datsyuk, Voinov plays there and they just lost Shipachyov and maybe Dadonov to Vegas, Ilya Kovalchuk to NHL. Richest team in KHL and you never know if they just buy another line-up if not Dergachyov might have good chance to get more playing time.
