So why as a #7 does BU go to Fargo and play #10 North Dakota ( with BU being the home team ) and #8 Union goes to Providence????

In the end it is more than math - there is always politics.

Well North Dakota has to be in Fargo because they are hosting the regional, that is nonnegotiable.

As another poster pointed out, UND is hosting, so them in Fargo is automatic. Also, I would say that BU didn't play well at all down the stretch so why reward them with a "local" game?

What does that have to do with the USCHO "expert", as you called him, and his picks? If you read the whole article, he had a pretty sound explanation, taking into account all of the NCAA "politics", such as attendance and avoiding intraconference matchups.

Numbers alone or not, he did a good job.

I know that.

As a BU I see Providence once again getting a break by playing in Providence ( and they are NOT the host, Brown is ). Same thing happened 2 years ago and BU fans still have nightmares if what happened in the final game.

What surprised me the most was ND in Manchester, with 4 HEA teams in, I would have thought it would be ND in Cincy because A) Intra Conference violence and B) Geographic integrity, considering how poorly ND drew in the HEA semis in Boston.
Also interesting note: the Senior Class at UML is tied for most wins at 98 (PC with 97 is in contention) with Boston College, if they win in the first round they are the winning-est HEA team in the last 4 years.

Actually for once they really didn't need any political justification for putting Providence in Providence. The rankings fell perfectly for them:

#1 Denver vs #16 Michigan Tech
#2 Minny Duluth vs #15 Ohio St.
#3 Harvard vs #14 Providence
#4 Minnesota vs #13 Notre Dame

The only team not to get in based on the RPI was Michigan Tech, who automatically got #16. The rest they just followed RPI.

I was surprised by that as well, especially having just played last weekend, but barring changes for first-round intra-conference matchups, the committee really seems to favor sticking to a 1vs16, 2vs15 etc structure, at least for as long as they can. Which is probably the right call...it wouldn't be entirely fair for them in that scenario to swap, say, Michigan Tech and Notre Dame, making #1 overall Denver have to play a tougher team just to avoid the possibility of a second round rematch between a #2+#4 seed...nor would it be fair to bump ND up to a #3 seed either.

Being in the Garden when O'Connor put it in his own net was one of the most surreal moments I have ever witnessed at a sporting event.

For anyone going to Manchester, there is a 1/2 Marathon and a convention in town on Saturday so give your self lots of extra time to deal with Traffic/Parking.

Is anyone familiar with BC Athletics?
I was wondering what was up with what seemed like a low turnout of BC fans, on TV its looked like 2/3rds+ Lowell Fans.
Did the 4th Place Beanpot finish kind of deflate any expectations for the team? Did the casual fans just kind of assume they were making the Tournament?

"Winnahs, not loosahs" mentality strikes again.

I'm sure the prices weren't optimal either.

Tickets for two games in Providence Friday are $45 each plus fees. Not bad.

Quinnipiac released its OOC schedual for next year, its very interesting.
BC, BU, UVM, Northeastern (2), UMaine (2), UMass Amherst, UConn and ASU (2).
all but 2 OOC games against HEA schools? let the speculation begin.

http://www.bobcatshockeyblog.com/2017/03/quinnipiac-2017-2018-non-conference.html

To be fair, Quinnipiac always schedules a good amount of Hockey East teams. Not sure it necessarily signifies anything one way or another.

That's actually the same exact non-conference schedule as this season for them. Looks like they just flipped some home/away games around.

Anyone gonna be checking out the Tourney games in the area? I'll be down in Providence to see the Friars take on Harvard and I'll probably stick around for Western Michigan-Air Force game.

UMass Amherst really need a new AD. Their Basketball, Hockey and Football programs are in shambles.
Now I know that Football shouldn't be expected to win all that much yet, but it seems like they can't even compete with almost any team in FBS.
While Carvel was a good hire, year 1 didn't see any changes to even the watch-ability of Amherst Hockey.
With the recent attempted hire of Pat Kelsey as head MBB coach debacle one has to believe the problem is at the top.
Now they might still have trouble getting what they want because the President of the system is Marty Meehan, former Lowell Chancellor, ULowell Alum and Lowell Native, so he might have a favored campus that is not Amherst, so with Basketball and Hockey there might be a tug of war which Marty will not be perfectly impartial.

The Eagles play down the stretch probably had someting to do with turnout.

Glad to see todays early NCAA tourney hockey games will be televised.

This East region is tough to call. I think Air Force has a good shot at upsetting Western Michigan, but I could just as easily see WM running the table and making it to the Frozen Four. Definitely the most competitive of the regions IMO...should be some good games today.
