AS Providence stilll will have games, I would assume Boston could still sign him and burn a year playing in Providence, if there is no option to play in Boston then.

Teams usually use the ATO, but I don't think anything would block Boston from signing him and putting him there

I'd probably be okay with this. Obviously for the Bruins it'd be better if they can convince him to leave school and start his ELC in the fall, but from his point of view as of now:

- If he signs now without burning a year, that's 3 years at ELC wage
- If he signs now and burns a year, that's next 2 years at ELC wage
- If he goes back to school, he won't get paid next year, but we'll have to burn a year to convince him not to become a UFA, so that's 1 year unpaid + 2 years at ELC wage
- If he becomes UFA, he turns 22 like two weeks before the August 14th deadline, so he'll only get a 2 year deal...so that's 1 year unpaid + 2 years at ELC wage

There's basically no way we come out of this with him on a 3 year ELC deal, so just get it over with now to make sure he gets here...signing now and getting us to burn a year is probably the best business decision available to him anyways.

McIntyre, Grzelcyk, and Fitzgerald were drafted by Boston and played it out

Can't wait for 3 on 3 in OT

Bjork - Pastrnak & C-Mac on D as a unit

I hope your right .I want to add though none of them are this kids level nor would any of them have as many teams after them if he chooses to ride it out .I will be a bit nervous till he signs .Hate to see this kid get away

After weeks of speculation, the University of North Dakota announced today that it is cutting the women’s hockey program as part of an effort to meet new budget restrictions.

Pretty crazy. The team has a losing record all-time and has never won a championship, but UND is a obviously a big hockey school so it's still a surprise. The move is already getting some serious backlash, including from former players and the men's team as well.

This is a ticking timebomb and the major problem is insurance premiums for student athletes. It is one of the main reasons BU dropped football and baseball, Northeastern dropped football and Providence baseball. Non revenue sports are at risk.

20 years ago you have no idea how close BU came to dropping men's hockey and Jack Parker had to fight John Silber to save the program. BU's premiums skyrocketed after Travis Roy.

Like you I was surprised that women's hockey would get "mothballed"(as Bob MacKenzie put it on NBCSN last night) at North Dakota, of all places. I cheer on the BU women's team now and then and I feel bad for their players. Oil revenues have a taken a hit out there, and we're talking about a state school, so something was vulnerable. Perhaps the sizable Sioux fan base can help.

Can you share the details? If not, totally understand.

It's crazy to think how much the college (and probably overall) hockey landscape would have changed had that actually happened.

Unfortunately that does make sense; as much as everyone obviously wants equality in these types of things, college sports are still a business, and they can only operate at a loss for so long before it becomes apparent conditions aren't improving. Ideally the combined men's and women's revenue would be enough to support both programs, but I can see the school's position there if the women's program really is operating at a deficit, especially if the costs are tied to the players themselves as those are a constant drain. Not to get overly political, but given the overall state of healthcare and insurance in the country anyways, it's not all that much of a surprise to see that issue pop up there as well.

It just feels like unfortunate timing given everything happening with the women's national team and their victory.

I thought Providence baseball being cut was a Title IX issue.

What a heartbreaker for Harvard.

1-1 game late in the 3rd period and Donato breaks a skate blade. He is able to get off the ice. But while he is in the dressing room Minny Duluth is able to score with 27 or so seconds to play.

Harvard gets a post and a crossbar in the last 20 seconds, but can't find the area in between, and loses 2-1

Kinda looking like Bjork might have some free time soon. One period to go. Losing 4-0.

Edit: Make that 5-0. Didn't realize they still had a couple minutes left in the second.

More

Feel so bad for Donato there. That was absolutely a situation where he would have been out there, and instead he had to watch his team lose it from the locker room without being able to help at all. Not sure he would have made any difference, but still a huge bummer to come that far and not be able to help during your team's most important moment.
