Man I can't believe I am enjoying these matches that don't involve Russia, Canada, USA, or Sweden. Denmark and Suisse yesterday was just an awesome entertaining game. Hischier just continues to be so impressive. For a kid who is more on the lighter side still, he loves taking the puck to the net. In a sense, you can tell that his game is very similar to Patrick Kane, that's all I saw in that OT period.

I also really hope that the Avs are looking at Alexander True as a potential junior player to sign this offseason. Since he's 19 years old, I doubt I want to spend a draft pick on him but whenever I watched him in the Dub, I think he has all the qualities to be a very solid bottom 6er. Him and Oliver Gatz who has been ridiculously good for Denmark. Perhaps they are low risk, low reward moves, but what's the damage it can do except benefit our organization depth and maybe one of them turns out to be a solid NHL player.

Another player not in this tournament, but Avs should consider is defenceman, Yannik Rathgeb. Didn't have a very good OHL campaign, but as a 21 year old, he's posted 20 points in 29 games in Suisse's NLA (highest men's league).

Maybe I'm selling Keller a bit short (get it?) for obvious reasons but from the little I've seen, it seems like Jost can be a better two-way player while Keller will be the better offensive player. Keller has been very impressive.
Ha, pun was intended?! I don't know about Jost's two-way game, I think it got a little overhyped during the draft. I mean he will definitely be better than a player like Duchene defensively, but I wouldn't expect him to be around either Landeskog's or O'Reilly's IMO (somewhere in between). Though with all that said, I think his offensive talent on the other hand was underappreciated during the draft.

Finland was disappointing two years ago, remember they didn't even score one PP goal. It is amazing what they were able to put together last year.
I don't think so, that Finland team was easily the most talented of any other nation and deserved the win. They came back against Canada and won that impressive 6-5 game.

The problem with Finland is that the overall nation's hockey structure is defensive. Some of their most impressive medals, either if it is a Gold, Silver, or Bronze in the past came from very structured 5 man unit defensive style of play. Now though, it seems that they keep producing a top 10-ish player in almost every draft - to get the talent group. What the country is still lacking, for me, is a change in philosophy in coaching and develop more of a puck possession game with all the talent they now have. Some years they hit it with the coaching and win a medal, and others they totally miss and hire a doofus of a coach which happened this year.

Uhhhhhh, Jost should have known better and take that type of penatly.

Way too easy of a goal by Canada to allow USA to get.

I haven't seen much of Jost, but it seems like people are high on him. These announcers for this Canada/us game have been gushing over him for like 5 minutes.

Yeah Starman giving some major props to Jost on NHL Network, calling him a "Gamebreaker". BUT Starman is a huge NCAA homer so that can be part of it.

Jordan Greenway is the type of player that Avs are surely missing; someone who has size, compete, but an underrated offensive toolset. Was extremely impressive in that 1st period, it just effin sucks that he's a Minnesota Wild selection.

I have to say, Strome has just been appalling for me all tournament. Very unimpressed.

Are they still force feeding him minutes when better players are getting not much?

Of course. Dubois has had a few decent plays, but you can add him to the dissapointing list as well. He and Strome should be offensive leaders on this team, and they've failed. The hard working play of guys like Roy, Jost, and Spears has been far more impressive and effective in my view. Barzal is the only real top offensive talent on Team Canada, and that's a big problem.

I still would like to see Jost with Barzal.

Dube has to score that. Jost and Dubois flip which I like as Strome+Dubois have no chemistry and you create a monster size line with the 3 Q forwards

Never seen too many men called on both teams at the same time. That's hilarious.

Looked like BS on the Canadian call though.

Nah, it was the right call. Dubois still had possession when an entire line jumped on, while there was still remnants of the last line and a goalie out there. Then the Americans got caught.

I really dislike how these Canadian coaches seem infatuated with Strome. The only reason the guy has points is because they basically have him and Barzal out there for 2 minutes on every PP. He has been pretty trash all tourney.

I can't understand why Jost has seen basically zero PP time all tournament long..
Politics man, Strome is a Canadian household name and was drafted 3rd overall. Jost forwent Canada's junior system for America's college which made him basically play tier II juniors in remote places like Salmon Arm, Merritt, Powell, and Trail.

Like Greer and Morrison?
Touche cgf. But Greer, Morrison, and Greenway sounds much better than Greer and Morrison.

I don't remember exactly how it played out, but I felt like the puck was just dumped into the US zone and they had possession with no one around while there was a bit of a chaotic line change. Didn't seem to really affect much. Unlike the US too many men where the guy jumped on the ice and took a pass while the guy he changed for was still on the ice.

Dubois was carrying it in, and loses the puck (after the line change had already started) when a US player checks him.

Yeah, politics and an internal hierarchy always seem to have a place with Canadian national teams.

Strome is the captain and it's clear they were going to live and die with him. I've never been a fan but at least this year he doesn't have Marner to pretend those two are the only ones on the ice can score. I'm sure their QF match will be a cupcake but after that they will need to figure out how to roll with the guys who are giving them some life. USA impressively shut everything down when they got the lead so there wasn't much room out there but the PP could be better.

Need more picks for that :sarcasm:
