I agree with that as well.

I think offensively he's pretty similar to Gostisbehere, but I think what will separate him is that he can actually defend, something Timonen did pretty well, and Gostisbehere doesn't do well.

I see a lot of talking about Brännström, and I'm with you all. But if we feel so good about him, couldn't other teams be on him too? How would he drop down to us in the draft?

That's definitely a risk, but he's ranked right around us in most places and he's a small D-man... I think there are decent odds of him still being available, there's also a risk that one pair of GM + Head Scout absolutely fall in love with his tools and pick him pretty early..

CJ Smith looking good so far in the NE Semi's.

Hope Rangers sign him when his season is over, be it this weekend or next.

If Brannstrom was from Canada or the USA, he'd be picked higher.

Look at where Cale Makar is ranked in most rankings. Around top 10, yet he's no better offensively, the same size, and he's clearly worse defensively. Makar is also like 10 months older.

I'm from North America, but even I can't deny that Europeans who are less visible to scouts and get less media attention are usually under-drafted. I don't know how anyone could deny it.

Can we tank next season? :)

So yeah, this is a 16 yo kid doing this during playoffs in arguably the 3rd best league in the world.

If we win the Cup this year, I'm all for clearing house. Hank, Nash, Girardi, Staal, all too old. Retire or leave.

I think Dahlin will be a generational talent. Those puck skills he has should be illegal for a defenseman. Would be the clear #1 in this draft. Next draft also has Svechnikov who is looking like a great winger prospect, another player who would probably be a clear #1 in this draft. And the depth for 2018 looks ridiculous as well.

A lot of the rankings discussed has Brannstrom ranked around where NYR's slot is. It's intriguing to the fans that we see some of these talented guys around NYR's spot and follow them up until the draft. It's known, though, that other teams do have their own scouting, profiles and analysis on players that fit said teams' logistics. There is no doubt in my mind that there is the potential that Brannstrom gets taken off the board early if a team sees his skill set to be superior over others available.

It's a shame they have those pesky contracts that prevent them from having to choose from those options. lol

Secondly, off his performance at the Five Nations U-18 tourney last month, we’re anxious to see if Erik Brännström can elevate himself another level to Cale Makar-type status as an elite offensive defenseman whose skating and puck skills dispel any fears about his size on the back end.

Before you mentally dismiss that notion, remember that Brännström is nearly a full year younger (still six months from his 18th birthday) than Makar, and playing at a higher competition level.

Erik Brännström (HV 71) — Every NHL club has gone gaga over Cale Makar this season. Our question: this kid is the exact same size, and just as dynamic, so why no love for him?

I think the only thing that Makar has over Brannstrom is that he's a righty and has looked just completely dominant compared to his peers. Brannstrom doesn't have that benefit playing in the SHL, but he's still a fantastic prospect. So is Makar, but idk if he'll get away with everything he's doing at his current level when he moves up.

^ This is exactly the reason why it doesn't make sense that he is not ranked higher. :shakehead

And Brannstrom is way better defensively. If Brannstrom was from NA, I think he'd be ranked higher. Not that teams discriminate against Europeans, but I think they under scout them.
