IMO Jake is the one I want to keep the most. Sheary will price himself out of here and I hope we have a replacement. That's why I want a show-me bridge contract for Sheary at like 3x3.3. Rust... is the toss up. If he keeps scoring big goals, some team will vastly over pay him. And it will not be worth it.

I don't think Sheary prices himself out of here, I think he gets traded before that. And on Rust, I think there are teams that could overpay for him, but I think he'd be cheaper to retain if he stays here. There's always a team who could want to give him a Hagelin like contract as a RFA, but I don't think he'd hit that if he stays here.

I got a really interesting idea from the main board, the Stars are apparently really deep at duel LW/C players (players who played center in the minors and are LWers now), but weak at RW. With Wilson showing that he's a capable RWer along with a LWer, I'd love to try and pull off Shore with using Wilson as a base of the trade. I think that is the best solution for filling the 3C spot, using assets like Wilson or Pouliot to pull off younger guys like Shore or Girgensons that can grow into the role.

On Kane, I'd say no to Kane unless the cost is Hagelin and Pouliot. If it's any more than that, no thanks.

I can see Rust getting a Hagelin deal from someone in free agency. As long as Di Pauli/Truffles replaces him, no worry.

I can deffo see Sheary getting squeezed out too.

As for Maatta... I like him a lot, but he's not a perfect fit and there are question marks. He's certainly good enough that holding on to him would be great but I don't think they'll hesitate if there's a hockey trade out there that involves him.

On Galchenyuk, like I said earlier I have no idea why the Penguins would target him to be the 3C. But if Bergevin really hates him like it seems like he does, I'd totally trade for him if the Penguins can get him for something around Maatta.

I would never let Galchenyuk play center.

We should be able to keep relatively the same team together for the next two seasons. After that it gets kind of muddy. Guentzel will need a huge raise and Murray will likely double his salary the season after. At that point it might make sense to trade kessel. Absolutely ridiculous right now though.

"we're going to talk about those phil kessel rumors we've heard"

there are no rumors you ********, just madden spouting ********

It's the slowest time of the year and there is zero talent on the entire station so this is just what happens. Talking for hours on end about a subject is a pretty underappreciated skill, but listening to the Fan can help foster that appreciation

trading kessel

I heard that Crosby wants to play for his hometown team, Montreal, and it is only a matter of time before he does. In any event there is no way that the Pens can ever win a cup devoting so much cap space to Malkin and Crosby, so the Pens will need to at least dump Malkin for cap space and depth. Several teams would give them four or five depth players for him to do the Pens a solid.

I have it on the most reliable of authorities, and have seen it repeated many many times over quite a long period of time so it must be true.

Well my sources have hockey right in the name, and they deal entire with the future based on their name, so it must be true. I mean, they would not claim to predict the future right in their name if it were not true, right?

Though speculating on what is 'X' happened, if Tanner Glass flapped his wings in a slightly different direction would a hurricane happen in China?

Get into podcasts. It's done wonders for the commute and those times when I just want to put something on. Plus I get to pretend the Pirates don't exist.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, Cooke has been beating that drum for a while now.

As one of the few people here who has been high on that "trade Kessel" idea for a long time, it gives one pause to hear that Cooke has advocated for it.... being that he is invariably wrong.

But I would like the cliff notes on the argument made in any case....

:)

Miller would be a solid move. Especially after it was such a "done deal!" that he was headed to Toronto

Add: Was listening when they asked John Shannon about trading Kessel. His reaction was basically "Um, no. No that would be idiotic"

Even though JR did go on the record last week saying he wanted to keep our #1, he was quoted today on DK as saying he was very hesitant to give up any of our roster players, and was much more likely to deal picks to meet our needs. Note sure if Miller is worth our 1st, but his cap hit would look good.
