I know it would never happen but could you imagine if McDavid left as a free agent and signed here for a huge discount? Part of me would want to see that more for all of the rage that would flow on the main boards than anything else hahaha. But back to reality in terms of a 3C I have to assume that is going to come via trade because the only two free agents I know of that would make good 3C's are Bonino and Hanzal. Can anyone fill me in on some other free agents that would be good for our 3rd line or do those two guys pretty much cover the best options?

Those dream teams kind of ruined the NBA. It's really taken parity away and been an issue, IMO. But yeah... Sid/Geno/McDavid is something to dream about and play on NHL 18. 3 best players in the game right on down the middle. Would be sick.

It's basically Bonino, overpaying Hanzal, or a proposed trade that's very unlikely to happen. So basically just Bonino, which is fine because he won't get anywhere near $20 mil from us or any other team.

I still have this unsubstantiated dream that Thornton signs a cheap ring-chase type deal to come be our 3c with Kessel on his wing. The thought of Jumbo passing to Phil Kessel puts me on the verge of tears it is so beautiful.

That being said, there are enough teams out there that are desperate for top 6 centers that any potential UFA is likely to have no shortage of big money offers.

This is where I'm at. I'd love Thornton on a one year deal to get him the cup. Should be motivation for the rest of the team as well.

Joe is going to re-sign in San Jose, IMO. He can be traded at the deadline. It makes the most sense. Just my opinion.

It would be downright crazy. The funny thing is that me and my buddy were talking about it last night and just making outrageously unrealistic lineups with people taking incredibly team friendly deals to play here and try to chase a cup. We came up with one and then just stopped because it got way to out of hand hahahaha... It looked like this

Guentzel Crosby Oshie
Draisaitl Malkin Rust
Sheary McDavid Kessel
Wilson Boyle Kuhnhackl

I really want to try and somehow create this lineup on NHL 18 hahahaha

3rd pairing defenders would **** their pants from the speed of L3. They wouldn't be able to touch us.

This is one of the reasons why I want Athanasiou from Detroit if he's available. Imagine him and Rust flanking Thornton who can find them from everywhere on the ice.

Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist
Hagelin-Malkin-Kessel
Athanasiou-Thornton-Rust

Would be absolutely insane.

Of course, Athanasiou is staying and Thornton is not signing here, but if we're dreaming...

Yeah it would be absolutely unfair lol... I told my friend that we would be the Miami Heat of the NHL... I liked your reference about super teams earlier in the thread, you were spot on about them eliminating any parody in the league. In the NBA this year people were essentially just able to skip over everything because you knew which two teams were making the Final

For anyone who still wants Duchene, maybe you should stop.

Man I feel like Sakic is really butchering this whole situation big time... I would laugh if Duchene somehow could force a buyout or something and then left Sakic footing the bill for some of his contract and then getting zero assets in return for him

I hope no one trades for him and leave Sakic looking like a moron. A bigger moron.

I have no idea what Sakic is thinking he's doing here. Like he just flat out doesn't have the leverage to ask for that kind of obscene price, yet he keeps doing it. He flat out has to trade Duchene this summer. Acting like a **** in negotiations in a situation where you have no leverage is a great way to get blacklisted by every other GM.

This is going to end up being Sakic's hill to die on isn't it? He HAS to trade him and probably Landy this summer right? This is going to end up where no one will deal with him and he has to panic and offload Duchene for a B level prospect, a first, and a 3rd line winger.

I don't think Sakic does either.

I'd love to see a Crosby-Malkin-Thornton-Kessel-Letang powerplay. Just to see how many consecutive passes they can make without shooting.

That top 9, too, would just wreck house. Need more Jakey G. I would love that, too. That price for Athanasiou is way too high.

Why i hated the decision by the league to not go to the Olympics.

Sid
McDavid
Toews

As Canada's top 3 C's.
I REALLY wanted to see that ****!

While I think it will be more plausible to obtain Jumbo at the deadline (Maybe), that forces 2 different powerplays. 1 run by Schultz, 1 by Letang. Would be lethal.

Never really thought we had a chance at him anyway.
But love that JR is going after the Duchene's and Galchyneuk's.
If neither of them come, he'll target the next guys that'll eventually become available while keeping the roster flexible like he's done since he got here.

On Galchenyuk, like I said earlier I have no idea why the Penguins would target him to be the 3C. But if Bergevin really hates him like it seems like he does, I'd totally trade for him if the Penguins can get him for something around Maatta.

Meant to quote you earlier. Duchene wants out at this point because he's been dangled left/right. Sakic keeps trying to suck every single top prospect out of teams. Dude is a joke. I hope the return he gets is ****.
