I don't think it's in the Finnish mentality, you can see that in football when Finnish teams play against international giants from England or somewhere. Locals fill the stands and support the away team against their own boys because they identify more with a brand like Liverpool than they do with the origin of the teams.

In the case of the CHL no one outside these two rural towns will watch or care as neither the league nor the teams are interesting, there's next to no exposure at all.

Let's not forget how much ridicule HJK face everytime they're eliminated from UCL or RL qualifying. Finnish sports fans are petty dicks who really only support their own favorite team and arte more likely to root for the loss of hated team. Jokerit were not exactly supported by other teams fans when they won back-to-back European Cups in 1994 and 1995.Jokerti had become too successful for non-Jokerit fans. In Finland, you're "allowed" to win a title but if you win too much, the public quckly turn agaisnt you. The same happened with Tappara in the 80's and TPS in the early 90's.

Oh please

People will watch the final outside those cities regardless, those that are interested in CHL to begin with.

What do you mean by the leagues arent interesting? Its only the 2 best leagues in the freakin CHL

To begin with there's no interest in the CHL, that interest has to be created and currently nothing points to that happening or indeed even the conditions for success existing. What the best rosters are is irrelevant from a marketing point of view.

I want Vaxjö to win. They represent Sweden and there is prestige here. Which league is nr 3 behind NHL and KHL? In Sweden we used to believe it was the Swiss league because they had money to pay Swedish mercenaries. Today, not so much after the Swedish dominance in CHL. The discourse has changed. The experts have finally shut their f***ing trap about NLA.

NLA isn't even close to the SHL, you can stop worrying about that. SHL is the best league in this competition even if JYP won by five goals, you need to look at the long time results: Rankings

And this is basically looking at the top teams of each league. I'd be willing to bet money, that if the CHL was played by four to five worst teams from each league the SHL would be even clearer favorite and that's really just as important when comparing these leagues. The finnish Liiga would still probably be second best but not by as big of a difference as it would've been five years ago (with the addition of three "Mestis-teams" Sport, Jukurit and KooKoo, all of them currently in the bottom five in Liiga standings)

About the " finns will cheer for Jyp" claim, I think that's actually pretty much 50-50, alot of the finns just aren't able to root for their rivals. Jealousy.

Thankfully those type of people are rare these days. They see top scorers leaving for higher wages and think that the league they're leaving for must be better. What they dont get is that the core of each SHL team is much stronger than the ones in NLA. Last season when 3 of the top scorers left Lakers some ppl said they'd suck this season. Boy were they wrong. We just replaced them and are a much better team today.

Anyway, 3 days left and cant wait. Only a few tickets left (thank god that people are coming, finally)

I hope from now on VLH will become a dominant force in CHL, like Frölunda

One of my female co-workers took two days of work just to be able to travel to Växjö and see this game. And some say that people dont care. :sarcasm:

JYP has a very busy week and because of this, they went with second team to Helsinki yesterday against HIFK. First Liiga game for seven players. No suprise that the game ended 6-0 for home team.

I am not a JYP fan, but when they play against swedish team, ofcourse my sympathy goes for them.

I'll root for JYP despite being a non-Finnish IFK fan since I love the game and my adopted country.

Växjö are fine team and I enjoy the SHL as well as Liiga but I support Finland, although I don't support nor hate Jokerit, despite that I'm interested in their business model and journey in KHL.

No one bothered to comment on the final? Well, it was won by JYP and thus we have the tournament's first non-Swedish winner.

Everyone was busy watching it. Full arena and loads and loads of conversation in finnish forums by fans all over the country. Gongrats JYP, a huge win.

big surprise i thought Växjö had this. Though from my experience victor fasth isnt big game goalie

I wouldn't say it was a great game, but it was made better by the atmosphere in the arena. If they can somehow get fans in Finland and Sweden as into the group stage games as they were for the final, this tournament will become something special. Congrats to JYP.

Disappointed with the play from my team. Starting to have doubts about the upcoming SHL play offs. Darn

Congrats to JYP

It really is curious, isn't it? For all the talk about how SHL >>> Liiga and SHL being equivalent to KHL and whatnot while Liiga is a third rate league, we have the 4th best team in Liiga shutting out the absolutely dominant, by far best team in SHL.

Funny how it works.

LMAO!

50/50 split with over 8000 votes so far.

What are you talking about? And luleå which is a bottom team in SHL has taken 7 out of 9 points from växjö

Luleå>>>>>växjö

Why cant you just enjoy the victory instead of spewing this nonsense

Yeah, and Edmonton beat Tampa last night.
Sample size...
Anyway, good for JYP.

Well, they also did get to the finals. And the players know that 1 game decides all - It's quite different from a random regular season game. That's like saying Olympics victories don't matter due to sample size. But I'm sure you understand all this already.
