The fact that I can't watch this game despite getting NHL Network, NHL Center Ice, and NHL Network Alternate makes me want to punch everyone in the face.

These penalties are getting ridiculous. Virtanen is a special kind of stupid today.

Finland up 6-5 now with the 5 on 3 goal. Think Aho got an assist on the goal by Laine. Finns still on the PP.

Save % for the Finns was: 85.3, for Canada: 79.3

that's just god awful.

Aho finishes the day 1-2. REALLY want us to get one of Puljujarvi or Laine if they can carry this kind of chemistry with Aho in the long run.

What a garbage game after the first. Virtanen probably put in the worst performance I've seen from a Canadian player in this tournament. To think he came from the nhl.

Horrible goaltending and defense, too. Will be hoping for a Finland - USA final now.

People love *****ing from one player to another and trying to place blame on individuals for causing Canada to lose, but all in all it was a terribly coached team that was very undisciplined. Collective failure.

McKewon was a +3 to lead the team. That has to count for something.....

Aho is good.

IMO the only guy on that team who covered himself in any glory was Konency. Dude busted his ass every single shift and wasn't rewarded with enough ice time.

The whole team was bad but there's no way you can say some weren't worse than others. There's no defending Virtanen's play today, for example. Three brutal penalties, one to negate a potential 5 on 3 power play and two taken by n the same sequence which lead to a goal against. Bottom line is he was expected to be much better in this tournament yet was invisible on the scoresheet and harmful to the team because of bad penalties.

Of course some players underperformed, Virtanen was horrible. But I just see so much ripping of unfinished products of players when in reality individual play from a few doesn't outweigh bad coaching and discipline from the group.

Canadian Jake Vir-TA-nen played a terrible game.

But Finnish double agent Jaakko VIR-ta-nen played an *amazing* game.

They play a long game, the Finns.

So I watched the Can-Finn game in entirety and some observations. Only 1 game, so don't read too much into it:

1) Fluery did not look good. I'm not talking about the play where he and Hickey turned over the puck for the first goal, just in general. He was way too conservative, didn't push the play at all and was pretty passive on defense. Maybe they were asking him to play a conservative game, but he was "meh" at best. He looked like he was afraid to make a mistake and looked slow.

2) McKeown actually looked pretty good. Solid defensively, engaged, aggressive and overall, a solid game. Outside of probably Dermott, he was their best overall defenseman.

3) Aho. This guy looks to be the real deal and was impressive. Fast, skilled and oh so smart. He anticipates plays so well and knows when to go to the net, when to cover on the boards, when to drop back, etc.. His play on the half wall on the PP is what the Canes have been lacking. Yeah, this is playing against kids vs. playing in the NHL so we won't know if it transfers, but still, impressive.

From a team Canada standpoint, I'd say the first 2 periods, Virtanen, Strome and Konecky stood out. The third period, add Marner, but he took and idiotic penalty later. Marner tends to hold onto the puck way too long and "looked" to be a bit of selfish player at times, but was great on the PP in the 3rd, which also transitioned to ES as well. He has gobs of skill and was impressive in the 3rd. Virtanen played well at first, but 3 idiotic penalties really, really hurt. Just brain dead penalties.

Laine is a beast. I know the goalies are not NHL caliber, but he is big, fast, skilled and has a fantastic shot. Outside of Aho, Laine, and Puljuvarvi, that defenseman they have was fantastic. Other than him though, the Finn's defense was brutal.

The good thing is Aho usually builds chemistry with everyone.
