Konecny may well light it up at the WJC, but that still wouldn't make him a lock to be an NHL star. At the WJC in Ottawa in 2008/09, Cody Hodgson was an absolute star - for my money, he was even slightly better than Tavares. Needless to say, Hodgson's pro career didn't go quite so well. The WJC is littered with guys like that. It's a great tournament and fun to watch, but it's a mistake to watch a five or six game sample of a player's work (with half of those coming against substandard competition) and make assumptions about how his pro career might go.

Yep listening to all the TB fans ,claim Drouin was the only reason Stone scored so much was fun:handclap:

lol.

I expect Konecny to have a very strong tournament. Just be glad he wasn't selected by the Habs or something.

I'm really looking forward to seeing White, and/or Chabot if he makes it. We took White because he was a better-rounded player, who is likely to better transfer his skills to the NHL. We'll see how it all plays out.

And the irony is that Colin White now looks more like Jack Eichel with a wicked two-way game than just a utility 2nd line centre.

People are all over Colin White's ceiling right now. Guy could be a legit #1 centre.

I've never been the biggest Seth Jones fan, but there's no way I would choose a small, one-dimensional winger with a junior-style game in Drouin over him.

Same goes for Toronto with Marner instead of Hanifin. That one will come back to bite them.

Stone never played with Drouin?.... He played with Strome and Huberdeau before Drouin was even on the team.

Anyone who thinks Drouin is no good needs to watch more hockey. He is in the dog house with Cooper but that doesnt mean he lost all his outrageous talent.

Yea, Hubs and Stone ripppppppppppppppppped the WJC. That's why I want Huberdeau badly. Their chemsitry was gorgeous.

Drouin is still remarkably skilled.

Either of those guys would be great fits and Murray type acquisitions. Huberdeau is producing a decent amount of assists right now though.

Huberdeau would look real nice and we know Murray loved him at the draft.
As if stone was simply the trigger man on that team. He's a better playmaker than both hube and strome. Heck, better player period.

Even at the time I was confused to why Tampa went for Drouin over Jones, especially since they really needed defense at the time.

Guess they wanted a replacement for an aging St Louis.

People were also super hyped up about Lazar's ceiling. That's not to say he's a bust, but he's looking more like a Rob Niedermeyer than a Milan Lucic.

White practiced today as the 2nd line centre for Team USA. A large role is likely for him. :handclap:

Love this kid.

He's probably centering the 1st line. Dvorak and Milano are superior wingers to DeBrincat and Tkachuk and White's line as a whole is better than Matthews', it's just that any line with Matthews will be labelled as the #1 line.

But yeah you're correct, White is going to play a major role for the Americans.

Anyone listen to TSN1200 this morning.

White was referred to as the most impressive player so far and stood out with Matthews.

He was playing on the wing though.

I've been pimping White since we drafted him. Probably my favorite Sens prospect since Karlsson.

Kid is going to be a stud for us. Just wait, by the end of this tournament, there are going to be fanbases from 8-10 teams who are going to be pissed that they passed over this kid in the draft, and other fan bases wondering why they didn't trade up to get him.

I said it in the prospect thread, and I'll say it here: if he's healthy and doesn't have Mono last season, Colin White is a top-10 pick in that draft. That's how good he is. The fact that we got him at 21 is quite frankly absurd.

Practice lines for today.

Perlini Point Virtanen
Crouse Strome Marner
Beauvillier Barzal Gauthier
Chartier Stephens Konecny
Hawryluk Quenneville Merkley

Fleury Juulsen
Chabot Hicketts
Sanheim Hickey
Lauzon McKeown
Dermott

Considering how stacked the LD is pretty awesome Chabot is being given a chance to hold down that top 4 LD spot. :yo:

Those D pairings aren't in any order whatsoever. Fleury-Juulsen will not be the team's top pairing, and Sanheim will not be on the 3rd pairing.

What should be taken away from those practice lines is that Chabot, Juulsen and Hickey are paired up with locks, while Lauzon and McKeown, two bubble guys, are paired up with each other. Looks good for Chabot, Juulsen and Hickey, not so much for Lauzon and McKeown.
