Will be interesting if Laine and Aho come out big against the young guns. If that happens, I think nothing stands in Finland's way to the World Cup final.

Thing is, if we were to lose all 3 games, no one here would care. :laugh:Losing all 3 games in a Euro Hockey Tour tournament would be bigger cause for concern.

That will go well in the press there!!

Finland can't win a game against an overbloated Russian unit and lacks the "finish" to dust off one under 23 kids in the world.

I don,t see those headlines making people happy there.

Maybe i,m wrong.

Press doesn't care much about this tournament. It's all about the Olympics and Liiga season. And probably the EPL season as well.

Like the summer Olympics?? Those will be over before this starts anyways or are they doing a 2 year coverage for the winter hahah

And? And you ignored what Tatar, Niederreiter, or Vanek or Nielsen said, for some reasons?

Yeah. Except that the players didn't leave it at that. ;)

I'm done guys, this is completely silly, ridiculous, and absolutely embarrassing. I'm not gonna argue about such incredibly clear things, I'm embarrassed that there are actually people with such mixed, and quite delusional opinions, but whatever

Except that some of them did exactly that. These players have differing opinions but you insist on taking them all as positive.

But I'm done talking to you for good, don't really appreciate being called delusional, silly, ridiculous and embarrassing!

The games being in Canada is great since the fans/arenas are awesome but on the other hand a lot of Europeans will not watch the games simply because they are played when most are sleeping. Not that I blame them I rank sleep ahead of hockey and watching a recording does not have the same feel to it. Which is a shame since this will easily be more exciting hockey than the World Championships. What a borefest that can be sometimes, not that the cycle pointshot deflection boardbattle and repeat until its over NHL games are that great to beging with.

The same thing happens for Canadian fans regarding the time during the WHC. The diehard fans will get up/stay awake until 3 am (start time) to watch Canada play Hungary .

You are 6-9 hours behind, so its more like 11 am or later, which is something you don't really have to stay awake for. Even for the afternoon games, getting up at 6 am isn't unusual for many people on the pacific coast (it's obviously later on the atlantic) :naughty:

And this wouldn't be a problem if the NHL actually cared about anybody outside NA (i don't know the schedule, maybe they did). I never had any problem watching the US Open Finals, it gets late sometimes but it's still manageable.

Time zone differences are no problem these days, just record and watch at your leisure. I watch recorded versions all the time, even when I have the option of watching live just so I can skip over the commercials.

Sure, if you are interested enough in smth that is a viable option.

I will certainly watch some afternoon games live in the evenings, too many good players involved not to. But we're talking about the World Cup, and i just cannot see how the current format (and its exceptionalistan approach) sparks enough interest to watch what is basically a rerun after an entire working day.

Yeah I understand, in theory there is just something about watching an event live that isn't there watching it taped later. That said, I've gotten used to it by now and for me, watching an event some hours after it actually happened is just as exciting (assuming of course that I don't know the result). Just a state of mind I guess.

For me the hardest thing is for a really big event if it takes place while I'm at work, I have to avoid hearing the result from a co-worker following it online or somehow finding out on the way home, big problem during the World Cup (soccer/football version) when fans are honking their horns etc. :) I'm getting good at it though as there a number of events I watch like this every year, World Cup Soccer, British Open Golf, Australian Open Tennis ...

The general interest in Sweden will not only depend on WHEN the games are broadcasted, but also by whom. Its says VIASAT/TV3 have the rights. If it will be sent from one of the pay channels from VIASAT (like VIASAT sports or VIASAT hockey), there will be far less casual fans watching it than it would be if its going to be TV3, which is "free" (or at least a lot cheaper, that's a channel most people have, but also with Commercial breaks).

Probably they are going to send Swedens games on TV3, they will get plenty of money from ads instead.

The rest perhaps on VIASAT.

Personally Im going to make sure that I got access to all games.

Actually, a lot of the games with just European teams are played at 3:00 pm, which would be the evening in Europe.

For a tournament that has 8 teams, it could not possibly be more competitive.

It could easily be more competitive. You could just take the best players without thinking about their nationalities. There would be about 80 Canadians and four Finns in the tournament. The quality of hockey would be way better than it is with teams like Finland and the Czech Republic in the mix.

No!!!

Finland is a hockey power. You belong in any assembly of the best hockey nations. Finns have an incredible group of young forward superstars emerging in the same era coming up. Finns love hockey the same way Canadians do. International tournaments at the Mens level must always have Suomi as their own national team.

A random fantasy all-star team is not the same as a team that represents North AmericaU24 for example. There is a connection between a country and a continent, and a clear international factor to "Europe", and therefore Team Europe, and to "North America" and therefore Team North America. Throwing an NHL team into this tournament is absolutely not comparable, since an NHL team doesn't represent anything. Someone who doesn't see a conection between a continent and a country probably missed some important geography lessons in school.
