That D will get muscled around with ease. I would suggest they bring a guy like Samuel Morin who should have 1 full NHL season under his belt (2015-2016 season) by then. They will need his size, grit, and penalty-killing.

Sam Morin? I'm guessing its not a coincidence that you see a flaw that you think Team Canada could solve by adding your favorite team's prospect...

The issue is that Morin is not that good and would be a step down from pretty much every D man listed so far.

As much as having these all-star teams removes a lot of the tournaments legitimacy, I am becoming excited as heck for this.

I can just imagine Mackinnon, Jones, Trouba and co wanting to show their countries they belong there. The teams will probably get worked by Canada/USA/Russia/Sweden, but I could definitely see an upset over Finland and Czech, as well as them beating the All-Europe team

Yes, I am sure MacKinnon and McDavid and co. have dreamed their whole lives to play on the Under 23 North American team. They probably can't wait to beat their own country at their own game.

Honestly, the silence the media has on this tournament and the illegitimate nature of it is staggering.

U-23 team has first rights, so if they aren't "good enough", they they could be on their national teams.
If they aren't good enough for the U-23 then they are available for the national teams? How would they be good enough for the national team if they can't make the U-23?

I can only speak from experience.

I was cut from a team on which I was the captain 3 years prior. Later that year I got to play my old team in a tournament. Without a doubt the most motivated I ever was. I would love to say I scored the game winner... I didn't, but it was one of my better games for sure. From my own opinion I was the best player on the ice

Let me tell you a secret. All this "I dreamt of representing my country" stuff, its a lot of BS. You dream to play in the biggest games in the world, and dominate those games. The jersey... it doesn't matter. Its about you, your teammates, and the guys on the other team.

Anyone who says they jersey is greater than your own personal desire hasn't played the game

But if I understand correctly they are actually ineligible for the national teams if the U-23 wants to select them.

Is this the case?

Yeah it's not like they are being snubbed. MacKinnon could win the Art Ross next year, Jones the Norris and McDavid the Hart and they would all still be on the U23 Young Gunz.

So am I understand clear that there will be just 4 regular national teams + Canada O23, USA O23, NA U23 and Europe all stars?

So the extreme attempt to making best possible best of best is turning opposite to weaken two teams.....

it is really really hard to find any rationale behind this tournament....

Yes, exactly. In addition to the two joke teams, Canada and USA are not actually at full capacity. It's a ridiculous idea for a tournament. The joke teams are the worst part, but I have the Young Gunz stealing players from their actual national teams. A few months ago I went through old Canada Cup/Olympic teams for Canada and removed players 23 and under. In some cases the difference was pretty drastic and would have certainly swung tournament results. In 2016 USA could be significantly weakened by this idea.

It does blow holes in the arguments by some re: previous international tournaments, the NHL caters to a N. American audience and will do whatever it takes to get the dream final, Canada v USA.

I hope it's a Europe Leftovers and Finland final. should make for a real T.V. ratings bonanza. I'll laugh myself silly if that's what unfolds. Not that I'll be watching 1 minute of this tournament anyway.

Yah, I don't think there's much chance of that happening. There's good gance our most experienced players will be skipping out on this plus we don't even know who will be in charge of the team. Our corrent national team coach's contract runs out after next year's Worlds and if we get a another result like this year, he might be gone.

So we have Jack Eichel going through the motions... where's the news?

Vasilevsky is going to be the obvious starter, correct? Or are we looking at a Gibson split also?

The North American YoungGunz team is for North American players, i.e. Canada/USA. I think the Russian Hockey Federation would be pissed if this tournament poached one of its 3 goaltenders, quite possibly their #2.

...I think there is enough American talent to make it a 60/40...

Surprise, surprise.

Sportsnet's projected roster:

Brandon Saad (23)- Nathan MacKinnon (20)- Jonathan Drouin (21)

Sean Monahan (21)- Connor McDavid (19)- Ryan Strome (23)

Alex Galchenyuk (22)- Jack Eichel (19)- Johnny Gaudreau (23)

Boone Jenner (23)- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (23)- Mark Scheifele (23)

Sean Couturier (23)
Max Domi (21)

On the bubble: Jonathan Huberdeau, Bo Horvat, Linden Vey, Curtis Lazar, Matthew Nieto, Sam Reinhart, Anthony Duclair

Morgan Rielly (22) - Aaron Ekblad (20)
Seth Jones (21) - Jacob Trouba (22)
Morgan Rielly (22) - Dougie Hamilton (23)

Ryan Murray(22) - Mathew Dumba (22)
Damon Severson (22) - Cody Ceci (22)

On the bubble: Noah Hanifin, Griffin Reinhart, Nathan Beaulieu, Darnell Nurse, Jamie Oleksiak

John Gibson (22)
Malcolm Subban (22)
Calvin Pickard (23)

On the bubble: Zachary Fucale, Eric Comrie, J.F. Berube, Thatcher Demko, Connor Hellebuyck

(Note: Player's age as of Sept. 17, 2016 is listed in brackets.)

This roster seems right with a 70/30 split and most of the bubble players, minus the goalies, Canadian.
