Can you still make changes in the summer?

I guess if Radulov goes to NHL, they would want to see him in the roster. :)

Hmm, thats smart and strong selection. Only 3 defenseman selected and then only 3 forward spots available... Possibly for Radulov, Nichuskin and... ? A lot of possibilities on defense, I like this inititial roster. Goalies, no surprise there.

Maybe they are saving spot for Provorov. :naughty:

You can only add to those 16 players, can't remove anyone... Probably only in the case of injury. I think that roster is for 23 players.

Not bad

They should give Marchenko a shot he's great at the PK and I'm biased.

Znarok said players from the KHL will be part of NT Russia
decision on them will be after the world championship in Moscow/St.Pt

They should go with 2-man offensive combos.

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-X
Malkin-Datsyuk-X
Panarin-Anisimov-X

Kucherov, Tarasenko and Radulov would serve as a 3rd wheel there at any line. Shuffle them until the proper chemistry is found or situationally.

Kulemin-Namestnikov combo will be a backbone for the 4th more defensive line doing PK job and so on. Someone like Burmistrov could be 3rd there too. Also, as 13th forward, Val Nichushkin or smb.

Keep Kovalchuk away from it. No place for him in top-6 and I doubt he's effective other way. Maybe as honorable 13th forward only but it's a waste of the spot honestly.

Defense is still too weak.

They should fight for semifinal and then for any win.

I probably wouldn't have picked Kuleman or Namestnikov, but not really a whole lot of quality from which to choose.

Still no plans on watching this gimmicky pre-season exhibition. And Go Jays.

It's sad I remember before Sochi and there were all the hype videos Russia vs. Canada and the rivalry and people (not including myself) were giving Russia a good chance to win and beat Canada.

One game.

That was all it took.

Russia suddenly became in the conversation for 6th best hockey nation in the world. Granted they lost the last WJC and other events like that but that game was still the turning point and now there's a lot of Russia mocking as if they were never any good. Perhaps even a semifinal would be a miracle.

There's an old saying that offense wins games, but defense wins championships. If you flip the script on that saying though you get defense wins championships, but offense wins games. Russia is the team with the best chance of beating Canada because in a single elimination format the team with the best shot at an upset is the team with the most explosive offense. This isn't a big chance (ballpark maybe 15%), but I would love to see the script flipped, not even necessarily in the final, perhaps in the semifinal, if only so that people show some respect and give more history and parity to the rivalry.

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Radulov
Panarin-Malkin-Tarasenko
Namestnikov-Datsyuk-Kucherov
Kulemin-Anisimov-Kalinin
Shipachyov

Markov-Zaytsev
Kulikov-A.Belov
Orlov-Emelin
Voynov

My take:

I didn't want Kulikov anywhere near this roster and I still don't.

Aside from that no serious surprises. Namestnikov does deserve the spot. The goaltending decision ist good. Looking at the injury history of Varlamov and Bobrovsky this season, there can easily be an opening or even two on the final list. and that's where guys from the KHL might come in.

Fun fact: there are 5 centers on the list already. Guess we can scratch the KHL centers from the final roster barring injuries which is not a surprise at all.(Sorry, Vadim, but it's true)

I don't follow the NHL closely this season due to lack of time. Is Namestnikov good at faceoffs? Then I see him on Malkin's wing :) (Sorry, Malych).

my take on the roster:

Ovechkin - Kuznetsov - Radulov

Panarin - Anisimov - Kucherov

Kulyomin - Malkin - Tarasenko

Namestnikov - Datsyuk - Nichushkin/Buchnevich

Gusev

Zaytsev - Orlov

Markov - Yemelin

Kulikov(sigh) - Marchenko

Zadorov, Paigin, Provorov

It's my take. I know Znarok's D will look differently. That's where I don't like his choices.

final note: yes, in case of injury there can be changes to this list(You hear me, Dmitriy? You can do that... again).

The roster names released were all from the NHL, and I don't believe them when they say KHL players will be named later. If they can name NHL players 6 months away from the tournament, why not KHL players?

Who, that the nhl is marketing this tournament to, would get excited by a release of KHL player names? Get out the big names first then sneak in the fillers later.

Why would the KHL be concerned about NHL marketing issues? The KHL would get none of the profits!
