I read that the Lake Erie Monsters have 12 defenders on the roster, so maybe they thought with letting Kukan go to the WC one more could play.
But Kukan is one of their top defenders, so it still would be strange. I'd still wait for official confirmation from the Blue Jackets.

Couldn't see the game yesterday, but the goal from Martschini was strong.

Could be, although if the logic behind it is to develop players, I guess they will rather scratched some of their older defensemen (5 are older than 25). Also Yevenko could be allowed to play for Belarus.

The only case I've ever seen of someone setting up a breakaway by defending a breakaway.

I missed the match, are the highlights available anywhere? Not on the federation's website in any case. It's often possible to see the goals there, but not this time

Thank you but unfortunately here is blocked. As a Swiss citizen I know there should be a way to legally unlock both the satellite and the streaming to get the rsi here, but I got lost in the process multiple time..

Same lineup tonight, except with Mayer starting and Baltisberger - Haas - Schäppi as the fourth line. Zurkirchen and Suter scratched. Suri definitely ruled out.

No glaring omissions from the PO-Finalists as it looks. Maybe Helbling, with Sbisa out, could've gotten a call. So Marti remains the only physical Dman on the roster. Let's see how far that carries him. I thought Rathgeb could make it over Guys like Genazzi or Löffel, the later one staying after the addition of Blum and Weber is a bit surprising IMO.

The status of Walker isn't clear yet?
I'm excited to see Andrighetto on large ice again.
And will Scherwey be able to conservate his form and finally make team?

Without a further addition of overseas talent, what would be your final cuts?

They both said they're interested, which doesn't mean much.

But I think Nino would come and Streit is an old buddy of Fischer, this may have an influence.

A bit late to comment on what happend since Friday, but I was away for the weekend.

Furrer and Brunner are huge losses. The defensive depth is still suspicious so one experienced defenseman would have helped a lot, and obviously losing your best forward will be a huge blow to any team. Maybe it will finally lead to something being done to protect players, but I won't hold my breath. After all, the league top scorer retiring at 31 wasn't enough.

I couldn't watch Friday's game (will try to have a look tonight), so maybe I don't have all information needed, but I'm surprised by Rathgeb and especially Schlumpf being cut over guys like Genazzi or even Grossmann who I found downright terrible so far. On the other hand, Suter and Baltisberger make sense.

About the additions, not much to say about Andrighetto, Blum, Weber and Moser. Bertschy is a bit of a surprise, but I guess it's a reaction to Brunner's injury. He didn't really get a fair chance last year as he was dealing with an injury, so I'm interested to see what he can do when healthy. I'd like to see him with :eek::eek::eek:i, I think it could be a good combination. Marti is a very surprising addition, I guess it's just about having a look at him, there's no way he should make the team. Hofmann has been discussed already, he seemed to slow down a bit during the playoffs, but his skillset certainly warrants a good look. Scherwey I think isn't better than some 4th liners already on the team, so a surprising addition IMHO. Untersander has been discussed as well, and it was mentioned that speed might be an issue, but he simply played too well not to get a look.

Not sure why Bodenmann wasn't considered, he's the surprise omission. I've also read that Walker could join the team next week. Wouldn't surprise me, Fischer really likes him.

Now I'm looking forward to Friday's game, it's very difficult to have a guess at the potential lineup with so many players at the camp.

There could also still be some additions, but the situation is still pretty complicated in North America (except for Streit, Josi and Niederreiter, for whom things are clear):
- Richard and Vermin are out of the AHL playoffs but Tampa could still call them up and is up 2-1 in its serie.
- Fiala is in as a top seed and his NHL team is up 2-0.
- Diaz is out but has been called up by the Rangers who are tied at 1-1.
- Kukan won't be called up but is in the playoffs in a probably tight serie.
- Müller is in as a low seed, can be called up by San José who leads 2-0.

I guess the most realistic scenario would be to get Streit, Niederreiter and one of Diaz or Kukan. That would be nice, Blum, Geering, Du Bois and Weber are the only defensemen I'm confortable with in the current roster.

In my opinion Chiesa would have help a lot with the physicality in the defense. He played MONSTER playoffs and was simply exceptional in box-play. I really don't see Geering or Schneeberger ahead of him. But maybe it's to defensive for the gameplan of Fischer. We will see.

Chiesa can't skate, international hockey is way too fast for him. Geering has proven last year that he belongs, he was forced by injuries to play top 4 minutes and did very well.

Helbling is much better than Chiesa and the non-call of Helbling is probably a sign that Fischer prefers another type of defender, like Geering is one.

Good summary, stv11!

I've only seen the 1st game against CZE too. So limited viewing here as well.

I've watched the Philadelphia-Washington match on saturday night... And Streit looked worryingly slow in both moving and decisionmaking. Still would be a welcomed addition with his routine.

Berra had his last game too... Hopefully he can play through his injury.

Richard and Vermin both could potentially strengthen the team. But I expect them tobe called up by Tampa too.

This PO-version Bodenmann was the best I've seen him in quite a long time. Would have been a reasonable call too.

The loss of Brunner could seal the ticket of Martschini. I remember him and Andrighetto having shown some chemistry while playing for the various swiss junior NTs. But that would be a scaringly undersized combo as well.

Not that I disagree... But how would you explain the addition of Marti then?

First he may just want to have a look at him. And second he's still young and probably has some upside, he may be an interesting player in the coming years, which is not the case for Helbling and Chiesa.

Makes sense.
As I remember Marti, he is a superior skater compared to the other 2s. That could help too.

Helbling on the other hand does give the impression that he plays his best hockey in the late autumn of his career.

Romy leaves the team, seems that he has some nagging injury.

Took some time to have a look at Friday's game. I think it was Switzerland's best game so far despite scoring only once. There were many good chances but Francouz had a great game.

The breakouts were a lot better than in previous games, and the team didn't rely as much on fast transition with long passes, which forced the Czech defensive setup higher on the ice which in turn made the fast transition attempts more efficent. The power play was good during the first two periods but the Czech PK adjusted and managed to easily kill penalties in the third period.

Mayer had a very good game, but I'm worried he's overconfident when playing the puck. Good game by the defensemen, Du Bois was once again a leader and Geering did very well too. Loeffel was disappointing, didn't create as much as he could on offense and was beaten a few time on defense. I still don't understand why Genazzi was kept over Schlumpf and Rathgeb.

The centers had a good game, especially Haas who was way better than Wednesday. Romy had a better game too, although it doesn't matter much now, and :eek::eek::eek:i created a lot early in the game but disappeared later on. Ambühl had a good game too, and Martschini was one of the most active player, he made a good case for himself. Hollenstein on the other hand is still not at the level you would expect from him.

Time for Haas I guess. Trachsler or Schäppi on the fourth line, and :eek::eek::eek:i and Ambühl. There is still Richard as well.

There are still many possibilities, we will have a better idea on Friday. I'd like to see a Moser-Haas-Andrighetto line, and Bertschy with :eek::eek::eek:i. Martschini could be tried with Ambühl.
