Also, the gap between mediocre NHLers and good euro players is not thar great. I don't think a guy like Josefson would have had a significant impact on this roster. The only way players like that should be invited is if they're willing to come to the preliminary games and fight for their spot just like everyone else, bur ever since Anders Eriksson-gate, NHLers are guarnteed a spot.

anders eriksson-gate?

anders eriksson-gate?

I think it was in the early 00, during Hardys reign, Anders Eriksson, I highly medicore defensemen was called in from North America was called in to one of the EHT tournaments before the IHWC. Anyhow, he sucked barely and was cut before the tournament. He was really upset and whined in Aftonbladet "I didn't fly over from North America to not play thr tournament". Ever since, it has been an understanding between the NHLers and the federation that if you're called in you're guarnteed a spot. I beleive there were some exceptions during BÃ…Gs reign tough when some players were expicitly called in on tryouts

I found a link, apparently no NHLers wanted to accept afterwards

Captain of the team Jimmie Ericsson is dull. No charisma, no intensity, no passion and zero leadership. It's not like there were many players to chose from but still. He blows and I hate watching his boring face.

From what I remember, this is the worst swedish team I have ever seen during more than two decades of watching every game in IHWC, every year.

The past teams who lacked players from the nhl still had a good spirit with skillful shl players. They also always had a captain and athe least one leader who were fighting hard and made you proud of the team even when losing.

This 2016 team.. no so much. I'm not sure I am blaming this fiasco on anyone, I am more ranting. Ericsson is a terrible captain but obviously it's not all his fault with a team like this.

I have not watched any of the tournament this year, how as Larsson looked?
Overall, he has been the best defenseman, but that doesn't say much. He has made a few dumb mistakes, especially when it comes to defensive decision making.

He has been ok, but I guess it's not easy standing out on in this weak team.

2 years in row we have missed semifinals....

Next year the tournament is in France/Germany!

New headcoach, new assistant coach.

Players always get energy with new coaches.

This was by far the worst Tre Kronor team I've seen during my 20+ years of watching the IHWC. This team was weak on paper, we all knew that, but somehow they managed to be even worse. I don't think we saw this team play to the best of their abilities in a single game and that is really gotta fall with the management. Really awful job done by Mårts, both in player selection and coaching. Glad he is gone, but I'm really not sold on Grönborg either. How long do we have to wait until Roger Rönnberg takes over? He is probably the best Swedish coach ATM. I don't think it's a coincidence that the time we actually one the WJC we had Rönnberg at the helm.

Yeah, they underperformed grossly, weak team on paper, or not.

As I mentioned in the game thread:

We lost to the Czechs, who lost to USA, who lost to Germany, who lost to France, who lost to Belarus, who lost to Hungary. Hungary was relegated. Quite telling..

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Wait I'm not done yet Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha **** you mårts and the swedish hockey federation you deserved this ****

It's interesting that Finland always find a way to perform great despite sub-par teams (through the years), while we have absolutely no team chemistry unless we have several stars in the lineup - period.

This sounds like worst Swedish team ever. Sounds like there wasn't even effort. Players should try to enjoy and throw themself into atmosphere, not think it's work for them.

It was not about energy, it was about quality.

Honestly, no joke, have Forsberg, Lidström & Sundin split the responsibilities. It don't matter if they can coach ****. But they can - with their pedigree - make the NHL-players put in the effort to play the tournaments. The player's will sort it out and there is still so little time to build the team that it matters little.

Swedish hockey is by no means in crisis.
Couple of bad WC's don't mean alot.

You're still up there top 3/4

My rankings:

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Sweden/USA
4. Finland

Finland is propably slowly closing the gap with Sweden/USA.

Hope you guys bounce back next autumn in world cup and in next years WHC.
Allways nice (and scary) to play against you.

I have sweden ans usa ahead of russia in a best on best their defense just isn't up to par

I really don't blame MÃ¥rts for the result in this tournament. This team did what was expected of them, they beat the Norway's, Swiss etc. but came up short against the stronger teams.

The big problem is getting our best players to play for the national team. Even many of our best players in Europe don't come these days. This tournament is the best chance for a lot of our top players to ever win something, but I guess other things are more important.

Different coaches.
If you remember BAG era, teams were often mediocre aswell, but one thing was absolutely certain: BAG will make the semis. Even in 2007 with one NHLer on the roster.

Marts likes his pass-pass-pass slow and wide game which in combination with Sweden being smaller than the majority of WJC and even some WJC U18 teams had this effect.
