WC: 2016 Team Finland Pt. II

Aho has played much better than Pulkkinen

I wouldn't touch the top 6.

Outside swapping Laine and Jokinen sides, I assume. Only reason that isn't done is Jokinen's NHL career and the respect of that, but not really this moment.

Aho is too good to be wasted in a role where he can't use all of his strengths. And that's the case as long as he plays in a line with MiG.

People need to wrap their minds around the fact that in this case, taking Aho out of the top-six would by no means be a demotion.

Granlund - Koivu - Rantanen/Pulkkinen
Laine - Barkov - Jokinen
Komarov - Koskiranta - Aho
Pihlström - T.Sallinen - Pyörälä

There.
Koivu line. Either give Pulkkinen his chance or bench him, and promote Rantanen to the lineup.
Barkov line. Switch the wings of Laine and Jokinen.
Koskiranta line. Give Komarov the skill guy he earns to play with in Aho. Also, Koskiranta has scored and almost scored on a rush down the middle. Aho would do good feeding those chances.
Sallinen line. Should be self-evident what's expected of them.

PP units depend on whether you have Rantanen or Pulkkinen on the Koivu line. If Pulkkinen, add Komarov to Koivu unit and Aho to the Barkov unit. If Rantanen, put Aho in the Koivu unit and Komarov to the Barkov unit so that both have an effective box player.

One little thing I noticed in yesterday's game was faceoff at offense. Laine placed himself on the left for the faceoff. A bit later Jokinen came in from the bench and told him to move to the right. Imho it seems that Jalonen gives too much authority for players to decide where (and with whom) they want to play.

Otherwise there's no point to play Laine on the right side, as Jokinen can play both and he is left while Laine is so much better on the left. Laine has always to switch sides to produce, which eats much from his offensive game.

In my opinion these are all preferable to the current lineup.
 
I like this the best.

Granlund - Koivu - Rantanen

I think Rantanen is a much better player overall than Pulkkinen.
Rantanen has size, skill, and protects the puck much better than Teemu. I also think that he is better defensively, and we will need that against Canada and in the do or die games.

I think thats exactly why Pulkkinen should play with Granlund and Koivu because we already have two solid two-way playmakers in that line.

Rantanen not being in the lineup but Pyörälä is is almost as frustrating as Risto being left out completely last year

5on5 play is my consern with Pulkkinen, Koivu line goes against the best and would Pulkkinen drag that line down.
He's looked OK/good on the 4th line but there he's going against weaker lines, and in the 1st games especially he gets disappears for a long time.
 
No word on Rantanen getting out of exile? Do you guys think he will play eventually? Getting someone from the NHL seems a long shot, doesn't it?

I think Saros should get the game today and on Sunday against Slovakia and when he is pretty good he has to play against CAN!!!!

but I´m quite sure that saros can save 100 shots a game and he will never get an important game from Jalonen

I'm guessing it's about injury flexibility rather than waiting for reinforcements. Hard to say if he'll be registered anytime soon though.

Yea could be either reason or both. I know that Donskoi would be a very useful player for this team despite of the traveling and jet lag.

Lehterä/Honka/Salomäki/Lindbohm. I don't think we would really need them. We already have our centers in place and in Lehterä's case no point in going through the jet lag and all that.

Do the rules permit bringing in a 4th goalie? Anyone knows? My guess is yes.

No they don't. The limit is 22 skaters plus three goalies.

Well, unless two of the goalies are so badly hurt they're unable to play, then one can bring in a fourth.


Also, what there is no limit of is the ratio of forwards and d-men between skaters. So one could register 22 forwards and 0 d-men in an extreme case. Or vice versa. (Of course, no one's ever done that, and no one ever will.)
 
There is no goalie spot left for this tournament

I think Saros could be strong enough to win close games for finland but he don`t will get this
