The old thread was full. : http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=2034895

as stated - it was a great tank night - however, while Edmonton is 5 points clear (and 3 GIH on them) - Calgary is 4 points ahead, and we have 1 gih on them.

it's gonna be close y'all

(we've now started pick/standing tracking with less roughly 20ish games for both us /Pittsburgh). others have been doing the Points % as well :)

Off topic, but I had completely forgotten that the Leafs had Jacques Lemaire as a special assignment coach. Just completely left my memory before I saw his name somewhere and was like "oh yeah, he's here too."

On topic, as long as the Oilers can go on a run I'm not too worried about Calgary yet. Oilers have shown themselves to be quite competent at tanking, they could start sucking again at any moment. So even though Calgary's closer to us now, I'm not terribly worried about them.

I would be fine if Calgary wins Matthew. The way Burke does his thing, won't be long till he starts trading away Bennett and Monahan for big bruising players to protect Johnny Hockey.

I'm surprised Burke didn't trade their pick. WTF Brian.

I think only Calgary stands between the Leafs and Tank Glory

I agree , Burke's piloted another team right off the cliff .

7 straight losses , The Burke is a legendary inadvertent tank commander and i can't wait to see him go into his schtick .

Calgary is brutal on the road, they can't get the favorable matchups for Gaudreau, Monahan, and the like, and teams lineup their best forwards against Calgary's offensive dmen who struggle in their own end. They're 9-20-3 on the road, vs 17-14-1 at home. They have a long stretch of home games coming up so I expect them to start picking up more points.

We got 5 important tank games the rest of the way, vs Sabres 3 times, vs Calgary, and vs Blue Jackets. Pretty much control our own fate.

Any chance Lou can LTIR babcock for those games?

Basically need CBUS/BUF/WPG/CAL/VAN/EDM to keep doing well.

Luckily Winnipeg and Edmonton play this weekend so someone has to get points, hopefully a 3 point game.

No big games tonight for any of the picks.

NYR vs WSH -> Doesn't really affect any pick. If I HAVE to choose a winner, NYR for the purposes of keeping Pittsburgh's pick from sliding into the high teens.
EDM vs CBJ ->Edmonton in OT would be ideal, but in reality any situation in which Edmonton picks up a point or two (even in regulation) would be good. We have too many games in hand compared to them.
NJD vs DAL -> It would be nice for Dallas to beat this wildcard threat, although Pittsburgh will have 3 games in hand on them and will still be 3 points up if NJ wins.

Edm/Clb - is a good tanker game. Keep the separation going! Hoping for Edm as we still have those game in hand.

Calgary is quite the **** show. Fans had so much hope for those young, try-hards.
Here is hoping them and Edm start to play better. (edm continue)

So when they were exceeding expectations last year it was all Trevling, but now it's all Burke. Par for the course

It feels like we're never going to catch up to Edmonton in number of games played. Someone check, do they play 90 games this season or something?

not for me.
I said constantly last year - that team that exceeded expectations was all Fester-fuelled, and he got zero credit for it.

Early in the year, there were people asking if the Flames had the best defense in the NHL. its amazing how many teams that were trying to win are right there with our scrappy AHL team.

Is anyone noticing the "pick/screen" slowing making it's way into the game? It is hard to discern between holding/standing your position and running interference, but I see that a lot in the offensive zone during a cycle; some guy trying to circumvent the defender's attempt at reaching the puck carrier by just standing there. If I remember correctly, Bab's Red wings were also a master at running interference.

Giordano-Brodie are nice

I think that Hamilton was overrated.

Russel's advanced stats are terrible, shot blocking is nice...but it basically means you spend a lot of time in your own zone.

Wideman needs to come back to help the Flames a bit but he's still more of a 2nd-3rd pairing PP specialist.
