Most SO's by a team in 9innings (21) in MLB history. Most consecutive SO's in a game (11) in MLB history. 11 wins in a row. Ortiz going bonkers in his last season. Betts possible MVP, Porcello for CY Young. This has been an awesome season to watch. And if they didn't have the late inning bullpen frustrations earlier in the year, they'd be right up there with the Cubs.

So excited for Playoffs!

It is crazy looking and seeing them with 92 wins now. Prob not on par with the cubs but you're right this could have been right around a 100 win team based on all the heartbreakers. They've made up for it recently though, lots of close wins.

Now tied with texas. Although if i am being honest i think i'd rather play Cleveland than potentially toronto?

Yeah, I'd take Cleveland personally. Should be able to get it done against either (or both, if necessary).

If the Red Sox play Cleveland in the ALDS (or ALCS) and lose, it will be the result John Henry and Tom Werner deserve for what they did to Terry Francona.

Quick little Fernandez tidbit- as a starter he struck out guys at a higher rate than any starting pitcher in major league history

some context on how special he was. Losing him is going to hurt for awhile.

Jayson Stark:

Four years into his career, [Fernandez] had an ERA+ of 150 -- which is incredible. If you're not familiar with that stat, it compares each pitcher to the other pitchers of his time, and the average pitcher is graded at 100. So that tells you how much better Fernandez was than anyone around him.

But maybe this will tell you more: Among right-handed pitchers whose careers began since World War II, do you know how many had a better ERA+ through 70 starts or more? That would be none. Zero. Behind Fernandez you'll find the likes of Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver and Roger Clemens. Fernandez was off to a greater career start than all of them. Wow.

Unbelievable

Watching Dee Gordon's lead off home run may have been one of my greatest sports watching moments ever. Took the first pitch batting righty as a tribute to Jose, then two pitches later deposits one in the upper deck in right..his first home run in 300+ at bats this year. Then cries around the bases and then sobs in his teammates arms at the steps of the dugout. Just amazing and so moving.

Made me cry, so beautiful and brutal to watch at the same time.

I don't wanna catch Texas. I'd rather play Cleveland with home field in that series and watch the **** show that will be Texas-Toronto

Don't we have to play Cleveland even if we do get #1 overall? I thought we couldn't play a team in our division in the 1st round?

This is very frustrating news to hear as far as news goes, but not unexpected, meaning I am not surprised by it. This is what I feared when they made the deal, and why I am not surprised, since I expected it, and the potential for this outcome is why I did not like the deal when they made the deal.
