Hey guys, how has Bjorkstrand been looking?

Like he belongs in the NHL. I expect ~20 goals from him this season. There were concerns about his physicality but he showed last year that he isn't afraid to play in front of the net. He's got a nose for scoring too.

The air about him is almost like he's a veteran. When he does well, the feeling is "yeah, he should be doing well against prospects and AHL'ers."

Any chance hannikainen makes the cbj this year?

I wouldn't think so based on the depth we have at wing. That said, management really seems to like him. There's also always concerns about injuries. If 3 or 4 guys are out at once, he could get a call.

Based on the way I see it-
Locks:
Foligno
Hartnell
Dubi
Saad
Wennberg
Jenner
Atkinson
Calvert
Karlson
Cambell
Gagner
Clarkson (LTIR)

Likely:
Bjorkstrand

Final Spot:
Anderson
Milano
PLD

That's 15 players for likely 14 spots. He will likely have a shot along with Zadar, Sedlak, and Maybe Bitter in this group to be injury call ups. He was hurt in his first game up last year if I remember correctly and I didn't know much about the kid then but I've heard great things and saw him a little last year to know he is someone I want to watch out for.

I haven't been to any games or practices. All I know is what I read. Do any of the PTO invitees have a shot? I would like to see Stoll have an opportunity, but not at the expense of a valued and developing prospect.

If it came down to Stoll or PLD back to Cape Breton, I would like to see PLD with a full season of center under his belt at the Junior level. But Dubois might be better than Stoll right now.

I'll take Dubois 10 times out of 10 over Stoll.

I agree 100 times over. Stoll is good; but not better than any of the other C's we have in camp. PLD looked better in last start. If the bubble guys are truly Milano, PLD and Anderson I'm betting Anderson gets the spot. Starting to see the competition that folks have always talked about coming to fore. Good news here is that the bar for making this team is rising.

That is why we need to give Dubois as many games as possible before deciding where to play him this year. I think he will continue to look better each game he plays as he becomes more comfortable/confident.

Also, yes and yes to the bolded parts.

I was thinking something similar with PLD. If continues to progress in preseason does he get to the point where you need to give him the 9 games when the games start to count just to see how he performs? I think the answer is yes; but don't know who he bumps to make that happen. Of course injuries happen and it might work itself out naturally. I guess it is a good problem to have.

I have zero problem with eating Campbell's salary in Cleveland.

Then again, not my money

They've already gone that way with Boll and Tyutin. Might as well get it all done with in one year.

Interesting somewhat related read in my inbox this am. Fansided purposing a package of Hartnell and one of the young goaltenders to free cap (and a spot) and address the looming Expansion draft where we could potentially lose one of the two tenders.

If you wrote that article, then I apologize for what I am going to say about it...

I don't think the author really follows the the team. This was the most bland article that said nothing we didn't already know and showed a lot of what the author didn't know.

1)Hartnell has already stated he doesn't intend of waiving his ntc, so the article is dead there.
2) minor detail, but forsberg didn't "beat out" korpi in the playoffs last year. Korpi lost the net after playing a round and a half and forsberg took over and was dominant.

They may as well have suggested hartnell for emelin/desharnais. At least they would have provided an option rather than saying, oh they should trade hartnell and a goalie bc of expansion and salary. Idk, just seems like any one of us could have written the article in 10 mins and done a better a job.

The problem with that is we could still lose the other one and then be left with just Bobrovsky. We can only protect one goaltender (Bobrovsky). I wouldn't trade any young goaltender until after the expansion draft (and even then I wouldn't trade one). I really don't see any need to trade anyone right now. There are a few guys I would trade at the TD or next year, but not now.

I'd rather take our chances that we could give Vegas some sort of asset in exchange for not taking Korpi, assuming he's the one they'd take. I would have little issue with giving up a late 2nd/3rd for that assurance.

No I didn't write the article! And yes I agree with many of the responses. Just seemed relevant to post given where this discussion originally started on Anderson and PLD making the roster. I personally don't see Hartnell moving (Nor am I anxious to move him) given his recent public comments. I do think it might make sense to move one of Korpi/Forsberg prior to expansion draft if we can get a good return; I wouldn't be in a rush to go that direction. Of course if we did that we likely expose someone like Atkinson keeping in mind we can lose only one player in the draft.

How would you feel if we traded one of our young goaltenders and then the other was drafted in the expansion draft? I'm not willing to take that chance (even if it is really small).
