I'm not going to try to bring some "LGK rah rah" banter (God that's equally as annoying as some of your guys' emo takes on this team). But I will bring balance, or at least more balance to the side that I'm on.

As Champions, our team deserves it. If we were a futile franchise, I would be ripping this team to shreds.

But we aren't.

I think tomorrow night will show me a lot as to where this King team is going this season. Opening night against your rival, this team should be pumped up and ready to go.

It shouldn't, it's just one game. Evaluate the team that plays 82 games on more than a single game.

Tomorrow night will be fun. Let's hope we crush the Sharks.

I'm totally on the optimism train!!! Lets get it done!!!!

Seriously though, if Seto can turn into a productive player, Gaborik coming back the forwards have a ton of depth. Pearson should have a better year. Broken legs take a while to get all the strenght back. Add to that Kempe probably getting a call up for the playoffs. That could be enough of an extra spark.

On D the Kings only really need to sort out the second pair. They need one of Gravel/Forbort/McNabb/LaDue to step up by the end of this season. That's not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

And we get to see Greene smash fools tomorrow!!!! I love when he skates down from the offensive blue line with his stick up like a tomahawk and smashes someone in the face.

That's right, brudda.

I'm hoping that we are rolling going into the last month and that a Gravel/LaDue call up is similar to the Toffoli/Pearson sparks in 2014. That kind of spark (admittedly, as long a shot as it is). We can win on defensive prowess.

Quick is elite and is due a fantastic year.

Naw I've just been in funk mode since the draft. Felt really good.... wanted to do stuff... had to wait for things to heal.... then waited some more... then some more... and then got into a funk waiting on things to get better.... Got to switch back to positive mode.

It's not nessacerally about winning or losing. As long as they're battling and putting up a good fight. It's more about their intensity and how hungry they are.

Trolfoli, you're a true diehard. A great fan. I don't want to be adversarial to you (or any of our great fanbase). We are the Dodgers. We are the Raiders. The true team of LA (as a Cowboys and Angels fan, I might puke after saying that, but 'tis true).

Only we are winners.

Intensity is great. It's a necessity, but on an 82 game season it ebbs and flows. We need it to strike at the right time, opening night is great and all, but it's not an indicator of the whole season.

I'll be right there with y'all if we lose tomorrow, pissed off and irritated, but I won't lose focus of the larger picture.

I wanted to compare last year's opening night roster with my (speculated) 2016-17 opening night roster. I've bolded the new players heading into 2016.

2015:

Lucic - Kopitar - Gaborik
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Brown - Shore - Lewis
Clifford - Andreoff - Nolan
Weal

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Ehrhoff
Schultz - Greene
McNabb, Forbort

Quick
Enroth

2016:

Brown - Kopitar - Setoguchi
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
King - Lewis - Purcell
Clifford - Andreoff - Nolan
Shore, Dowd

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Gilbert
McNabb - Greene
Forbort

Quick
Zatkoff

2014-15 is even worse - the season that could have been.

Gaborik - Kopitar - Williams
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Richards - Stoll - Brown
Clifford - Lewis - King
Andreoff, Nolan

Regehr - Doughty
Martinez - Voynov
McNabb - Greene
Muzzin (whaaat?)

Quick
Jones

2016:

Brown - Kopitar - Setoguchi
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
King - Lewis - Purcell
Clifford - Andreoff - Nolan
Shore, Dowd

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Gilbert
McNabb - Greene
Forbort

Quick
Zatkoff

I'm pretty sure that Dowd is 3rd line center and Lewis 4th line rw.
2nd pair is McNabb-Martinez and 3rd pair is Forbort-Greene and Gilbert 7th.

It's gameday boys!!! Long offseason after a disappointing postseason.

@RaccoonJesus, mostly because of you, I am extremely excited to see how McNabb steps up this year. You bring it like our old friend Ron did, and I am in the McNabb-is-a-top-5 D camp (can't go quite to top-4, yet) mostly due to your steadfast support of our mercurial defenseman.

Kopi was the <censored> Selke winner, Bergeron wasn't stiffed. Doughty may or may not have been the best D last year (heresy, but what Karlsson did was damned impressive), but he (Doughty) is the best in the league. Muzzin is a number 1 on 10 or so teams in the league.

Pearson absolutely breaks out this year and pots 20+ and ~50 points (tho, giving him around 30 assists might be generous). Gabby, same, after his return... probly closer to ~45 pts.

The wildcard is Toffoli -- does he have a Tarasenko year, or is his ceiling somewhere around ~60pts? Still a bad, baaaaaad man, but how bad?

Quick has a true Vezina caliber year this year and bolsters a criminally underrated defense (until it isn't underrated anymore and then that label is passed back over to Quicky).

The only question is forward depth (as has been beaten to death), but today, ladies and gents, we get our Kings. Warts and all. Let's cheer them on, don't give up hope, and all hail our amazing GM for doing the best he could making a run 6 years in a row.

I need to go to sleep. But alcohol.

You are officially the head cheerleader of the Kings right now. Shake those pom poms in your little skirt. If the Kings come out flat, get beat handily and look like a team that cannot score goals will it still be fun?

Wut?

My little skirt? You wanna take a peak underneath it?

I can go ad hominem better than you, so stop. Or don't.

I said in a further post what it would be if we lost our first game, there troop.

Put the 9mm away, step away from the ledge. Derp.

It's okay, Yitz. We need all the fans we can get.

Even fans like him.

That way when we win, they can jump back on the bandwagon. It makes our bandwagon larger, and scarier to the folk down the 5 fwy.

Plus, look at his post count. He ain't going anywhere.

Neither am I. And now I know him... We're like buddies, he wants to play dress up with me.

This place is going to become really unbearable if it's overtaken by optimism.

I'm calling it now! They're winning the division!!! Seto is going to have the greatest comeback of all time and put up 20+, Brown is going to rebound into a hockey player. 2 of the young defenders are going to turn into legit top 4D by the end of the year, and we'll stomp the Sharks in the first round of the playoffs!!!!

:naughty:

I hear sutter has them all with magazine cut out dream boards in their locker stalls to help motivate them and they can only listen to tony robins tapes on the boombox. brown just has to see himself scoring 30 again for it to happen... /s

but this was interesting this morning... modeled off the last 2 years which throws a curveball to a lot of the doom and gloom.

Awesome, Matt! Love those projections!

I think our fanbase is woefully underrating this Kings team. We've also taken some hits on several preseason power rankings.

As to the fans, I guess that's what happens when you win a couple championships and these fans started following them in the last ten or so years and that's all they're used to.

So stoked for the season. You ready for tonight, Matt?!

Someone hasn't been paying attention to Kings hockey since the 2014-15 season...

Must be why Dean Lombardi was so pleased with the team's performance this season.

My reality is based on what's taken place over the past two years. You can count on one finger how many playoff victories the Kings have had in that span.

so because the Kings missed the playoffs by 2 points in 2015 and were bounced by a team that went to the Finals in 2016, that means they are in for a disaster season this year? is this how your brains comes to conclusions? seriously?

reality is based on here and now. not what happened 10 years ago, not what happened 2 years ago, its right now. where will the Kings finish this year oh wise one?

Exactly, Major. Some of our fans aren't giving the team a chance to show what they've got. Not even one game played. No respect to our champs.

A lot of these reactions are knee-jerk and pure conjecture. I can come up with my own hypotheticals, too.
But if I do it, it's pom poms and booty shorts (stop staring, Tikkanen)

Don't know where they'll finish, but I can tell you that they're back to the black hole era of either being good enough to make the playoffs or bad enough to wind up with a draft selection in the 12-16 range.

I hope for the best but expect the worst. It's a more grounded approach to reality versus burying my head in the sand like some of you kool-aid drinkers.

God forbid we set some standard of expectations for one of the highest spending teams in the league. But I'm not going to be unrealistic about it. I've been watching this team long enough to know exactly what they are, and right now they are a middle of the road team.

And did your brain tune out how the Kings ended up missing the playoffs in 2015? Remember that last stretch of games? I'm sure your brain also shut down after the Kings secured a playoff spot in 2016.

They haven't been champs for two years. They've won one ****ing playoff game since then.

This would be like a Ducks fan still calling his team "the champs." We'd all be laughing at him.

Please don't be that guy.
