I see your point and your theory does indeed seem stronger than mine, given the fact that you would think that ownership would want to approve where it's money was going.

Though, it goes against numerous stories about the firing that I read at the time. Now, were those stories based entirely on fact or just interpretation? I honestly could not tell you. I'm just going off of historical reference in my own mind.

I am not sure I am 100% wrong, but I am willing to concede there is a far better argument on your side of things. Still...it's one of those "insider" things neither of us can ever be entirely sure about.

I agree. Neither of us will ever know the true story. One story I read was it was simply McDonagh's jealously of Tallon, so really like you said who knows.

lol the oilers are 12-10-2, good for first in their division.

bruins are 12-10-1 good for.. not even a wildcard spot.

That was a dumb mistake, but the way he intentionally handcuffed the Blackhawks with the Hossa contract was legendary and clearly what got him fired. It worked out, but it forced them into decisions they'd rather not have had to make.

It is widely believed and was reported that Tallon lost power struggle among a variety of reasons

Some notable friction

- Tallon didn't want to fire Savard , Hawks upper management/ownership forced him to do it and put in Q (Who upper management hired)
- Tallon wanted to bring back Havlat , Wirtz , Bowman (Scotty) and McDonaugh (Our Team President) decided to go after Hossa instead
- Tallon had been slowly losing power since Rocky Wirtz took over. Tallon was a Bill Wirtz hire (As was Savard as coach)

And it was actually Campbell contract that was problem not Hossa. Hawks were forced to overpay for Campbell and Tallon did so willingly (He coveted a defender like Campbell for years and made him #1 offseason priority)

After Tallon was fired it was that mess that Bowman had to clean up. Ironically it was Tallon who ultimately cleaned it up for Hawks after he became GM of Panthers

Dale's love for Campbell as a player helped (Campbell was big plus for rebuilding team), then hurt (That contract was crippling in summer of 2010) and then helped the Hawks again (When Dale traded for him)

It was a complicated little mess here in Chicago but if you look at Tallon's drafting it was very poor as was his handling of FA's

Those coupled with the new regime in Chicago (Rocky Wirtz era) quickly led to falling out

Also it should be noted that while Tallon did make some good moves (Sharp trade , Versteeg trade , etc) and he did get right the two most important picks in Hawks history (Toews #3 and Kane #1) he also inherited a system deep in future NHL talent

Future NHL talent to play over 100 NHL games that were prospects when Tallon took over Hawks organization (Bolded = Future Allstars)

C Dave Bolland
C Jake Dowell
LW Chris Porter
LW Bryan Bickell
LW Tuomo Ruutu
RW Troy Brouwer
RW Adam Burish
D Anton Babchuk
D Lasse Kukkonen
D Cam Barker
D James Wisniewski
D Brent Seabrook
D Dustin Byfuglien
D Duncan Keith
G Craig Anderson
G Corey Crawford
G Michael Leighton

When Mike Smith was fired he was halfway thru what he planned as a strategy of rebuilding team from net out

That is why the Hawks prospect pool was so deep with regard to goaltending and defenders and so light when it comes to forwards when Tallon took over (Also the big 2000 draft was flop with Yakubov failing miserably and Vorobiev despite showing promise being chased back to Russia by Tallon regime)

Mike Smith drafted 5 guys who would go on to be allstars and often goes under radar for his contribution to future Hawks team (Guess that is life of a GM fired before team turns it around)

Check this out, millions of hockey cards found in an abandoned warehouse in Detroit. http://www.hockeyinsiders.net/2016/11/30/millions-of-hockey-cards-found-in-abandoned-detroi/

So from the first sentence ("A couple of Detroit photographs stumbled across any hockey card collecting/hoarders dram recently."), I gauged that a pair of photos of Detroit recently came upon a hockey card collecting unit of alcohol. Is that accurate? :sarcasm:

Also:

**** that guy, hope to see a lot of that in the future

Couple writers at TSN have turned out some interesting columns of late using the data so many teams now collect and rely on to evaluate changes, trends, performers and non- performers, etc. Very interesting findings. The latest version below talks to the increase and quick pace with goal scoring that Crosby is on this year. They attribute that largely to an improvement in his quality shooting largely by changing where he is on the ice and where he shoots from. Given the talk of the Bruins struggles to score despite being near the top of the league in shots taken makes you think this report should be shared in the dressing room. Adjust before the the possibility of being in the playoffs turn to dust.

That was a perfectly good stick he destroyed there over a pretty obvious hooking call.

Shaw is a punk and fits that uniform to a T.

Islanders just gave up a three goal lead in the third period. Tied now and Pittsburgh has the momentum.

And what do I know. Isles come back in the last minute and score two (fastest two goals in islanders history) to win it.

Thanks for the Shaw vid.

Unfortunately it is saying it is not available in my region, which I've had trouble with before with TSN. I'll try on my home computer.

The advent of advanced stats and the ensuing debates have been interesting. With as good as goalies are today and as tight as the defensive systems are, it begs a common question of quantity vs. quality.

For instance, I caught the first period of the Sharks/Kings last night, in which LA was outshooting San Jose by a good margin and dominating play, but was losing 3-0. If I were a coach, I'd take the few high quality chances the Sharks got over the barrage of fairly routine shots the Kings were taking.

The Bruins have made some average goalies look superb, at least statistically, and I think shot selection plays a part.

Unfortunately Crosby can make adjustments like that better than most of the B's. ;)

Why is it that whenever two teams close to the Bruins in the standings play each other, it inevitably ends up a three point game? Stupid loser points.

no, it played the Shaw video just fine,. i was just saying the next video that autoplayed was about Marchand going from rat to star, which i found ironic

I don't know if this helps but I watched the Marchand video on TSN a couple days ago. I very rarely use tsn or any Canadian websites related to sports simply because they're all so damn bias toward their beloved Canadian teams and I absolutely HATE all Canadian media except for one exception, Bob Makenzie.

This should surprise some people. Columbus are tied with one other team with just 5 regulation losses..As for the other team? Not worth mentioning because they'll soon be middle of the pack team..Ok, maybe a little better than that..haha

We all hate it and not many of us was happy about taking one against Philly.

But look on the bright side. Bruins gained 2 points on Tampa and a point on Sens and Habbies.

Unlike Tue against Philly, we won a game we had no business winning, just like Philly. And the win puts us in 3rd place in our division. Yes tied with Tampa but Bruins played a game less..
