Penguins just pasted Florida 4-0, and the Penguins had Letang, Malkin and others out of the lineup.

The top 3 Metro teams are amazing but Pittsburgh is still the best I think.

Florida has been terrible for some time now. At full strength yes they are the defending champs. I'm not too sure they make it out of the division though.

Tavares is one of my favorite non-Bruins. I wish he would become one of my favorite Bruins. (I know, fat chance...)

Surely, he's signing with Toronto :sarcasm:

Joking aside, sadly the Leafs may actually be in play when the time comes around on this one.

Eewww, I hope not. Tavares needs to come to Boston so he can play with his good buddy, Bergeron. I have spoken, make it so. :sarcasm: :D

wouldn`t be shocked if Tavares explores his options, the Islanders situation as far as where the he** they are heading as an organization, where they will be playing moving forward

How do we fit him under the cap? Especially after Pasta gets paid.

Well he's not UFA until 2018 ---- obviously I'm just speculating here, but as of now, in 2018-19, the B's have around 49.5 million committed to:

Backes, Krejci, Bergy, Marchand, Beleskey, Krug, MCQuaid, Carlo, KIller and
Rask.

Let's give Pasta a cap number of 6.5 and Tavares one of 9.5.

That gets them to around 65.5

Which leaves around 7.5 million (if the cap stays the same for the next 2 years) to pay:

7 Forward Spots, 2 Defense Spots and a back up goaltender.

Presumably, at least 3-4 of the following will be on the team and on entry level contracts:

McEvoy, Bjork, JFK, Lauzon, Zboril, Senyshyn, Debrusk and even Chelarik.

Around 800k each x 4 = 3.2 million

Spooner and Vatrano will also be due for raises before then, so clearly there is work to be done, but I don't think it's impossible.

If they could find a way to get out from under Krejci, Backes or Rask's cap numbers, that would go a long way.

If Beleskey, MCQuaid or Killer gets taken by Las Vegas, that's another helpful subtraction.

From there who knows?

Maybe the cap goes up another 2-3 million?

I just don't think it's impossible....I mean Chicago seems to add a big piece every few years.

Do you think the Bruins will keep Chara beyond his current contract?

I don't know. I guess it depends on how many of McEvoy, Lauzon, Zboril, O'Gara, etc. develop into legit NHL'ers.

I mean Krug, Carlo and one or two of MCQuaid, KM and CM are still possibly around by then too.

LOL Colorado. They were up 3-1 on Chicago and just gave up three goals in 34 seconds. :help:

Make that four in I don't know how many seconds.

Quick question for the board, because I don't want to do the research myself:

In the "salary cap era", has any team been as bad as Colorado in relation to the rest of the league?

I find it quite stunning how low they are, given the relative "parity". Yes, I am aware they are a team that does not spend to the cap.

Outside of Buffalo that was tanking 2 years ago I can't think of anyone else.

Patrick Roy saw the roster his GM put together and quit last summer. He knew it was a bad team.

Another controversial goal challenge in the Colorado/Chicago game.

Glad the GM's were happy enough with the offside/review protocol to leave it as is. Ridiculous.

My opinion is they need to rewrite the rule to favor the offense. They can market the league on skill and speed, as long as they don't punish teams for having - skill and speed.

It's a buzzkill to have to temper enthusiasm after a goal is scored, to make sure a skate lace or toe nail wasn't offside.

I wonder if the Darryl Sutter era is nearing an end in LA? They are looking like the Bruins in the last days of the Claude Julien era.

they decided that analytical approach the way to win games, and while I agree it has a part in the game, can`t just throw all your eggs into one basket

Ekblad didn't look right after the head shot from the World Cup. Then he recently took another one. Not a good sign for someone who just got a 7.5 extension.

Barkov as well for as great as he is will again not play a full season.

Rough to have your best two players and both quite young and have so many injury questions.

they had a multitude of injuries at one time which just killed them but they did get healthy, had a bit of a bump in play after the Gallant firing but there`s clearly something not right about them

Pittsburgh is playing great but still, the Panthers looked horrific and didn`t even compete yesterday. One particular play had Dumoulin, at the tail end of a long shift coming down on Yandle, did a fake slapper, then steps around Yandle prompting the announcer (not sure who it was) to comment for a guy making that much money to allow for this to happen is "a waste"

funniest part is how the NHL doesn't admit it was the wrong call.
They did the same thing Sat nite in Toronto. They make up some new rule to make it seem like the right call. The league is such a joke.

Yandle has sucked in Florida. Count me as someone who is surprised. He started to look 'good' in New York. Now he looks like a train wreck. Thank god Boston didnt sign him.

Montreal lost in OT tonight to Detroit at home so Ottawa is still in hailing distance to win the division.

Colorado's ****show this year may have resurrected Roy's chances of landing another gig ;)

Edit: Holy hell, I just actually looked at how many points they had. The last time a team finished with 50 or fewer points over an 82 game season was 1998-1999. The Lightning had 47 with a record of 19-54-9, and that was pre-shootout. If the Avalanche accomplish this feat, they will be the worst team of the post-lockout era.
