I'm no fan of either team, but please allow me a moment to enjoy Chicago losing to Detroit. In regulation.

Imagine that. Crosby and McDavid score back to back in the shootout. And Kessel wins it for the Pens. Entertaining game.

McDavid is the best player in the league IMO. His drive and desire is only outdone by his incredible skill.

I'd argue that Crosby is the better all-around player at this point. I also think that Malkin is a better all-around player. McDavid will likely be the best sooner rather than later, though. Still haven't seen his ceiling, and who knows how high that will be. Scary how he is this good at this young of an age.

Sportnet's highlight show had a clip of a very young McDavid in his Justin Beber look alike days. The person doing the interviewing asked who he would like to play with in the NHL if he could pick his linemates. His reply was Crosdy and one Milan Lucic! Perhaps there should be anticipation of a trade of Crosby to the Oiers at some point? :sarcasm:

Subban's ego knows no boundaries. Article from Sportsnet.

P.K. Subban: 'I'd love to be commissioner' - 03-10-2017
"Can you imagine hockey’s most vocal ambassador and one of its most exciting players serving as commissioner?

It’ll never happen, of course, but when P.K. Subban joined the Bill Simmons Podcast this week, he pondered the idea, and discussed some of the things he’d change.

“One day I’d love to be the commissioner of the NHL,†Subban said.

“Let’s play less games. Our game is just (as), if not more physical than the NFL. They play 16 games all year, we play 82, plus travel, plus playoffs.

"Jonathan Toews has played over 100 games a year probably consistently over the past five or six years. Think of the wear and tear on your body."

This season has been especially tough schedule-wise, with the late start after the World Cup -- which most of the top players were involved in -- the All-Star Game, and mandatory team bye weeks, which will also be around next season. This has led to a much more condensed schedule than usual, especially in the back half of the season and down the stretch.

Subban pondered what this would mean for the players of today, and the likelihood one of them could pull off a career that runs as long as Jaromir Jagr's."

It is. But Crosby's best season pointwise was his second, and he was half a year younger than McDavid was to start this season. That's not to say McDavid doesn't have a ways to grow in his overall game, but don't cash in on these generational players turning in significantly better seasons offensively around 26-29 like most good to great players do.

Then again, league scoring (especially for top players) as a whole is down by quite a bit since the start of Crosby's career, so maybe his 13-14 and/or this season are more impressive even from a flat out offensive perspective. Still nowhere near as much as you'd expect with a non-generational guy.

Subban's ego knows no boundaries.

Don't know how egotistical that was? He raises some decent points, even if I - as a selfish fan - don't mind them playing this frequently.

McDavid seem to be best positioned in considering who may lead the pack as the best player in the league as some point. Others players like Mathews may enter into the conversation as well. Potential has to be converted into a sustained high level of success to make the argument for them or someone else.

Subban's points are valid but not sure what qualifications he possesses for assuming that role. He has never met a camera or microphone he didn't like.

Just saw the story on NHL Network about Brian Bickell and his diagnosis of MS. Wow. Knew he had it, but watching him and his wife talk about it, and seeing their kids, makes it hit home a little more. The doctors can't tell the prognosis because it could be anything from remaining pretty much fully functional, to paralysis. Yikes. :(

Not in the least bit surprised the other teams are all tied, including Tampa and Florida with each other. Oops, Sens scored to take the lead. And again to extend it. :sarcasm:
At least that's the least important of the games. Now for one of Tampa and Florida to win in regulation...

Blues lead Islanders, didn't even see that game. Nice.

I am encouraged by the way the Bruins poured it on in the third today, especially with a few minutes left....no loser mentality of getting to OT. I see a different team this season that will forge ahead and hopefully never look back. Take care of your own destiny and screw the rest of the teams behind and just win.

I can understand Bill Peters' frustration. The Canes have some promising young pieces, but their goaltending lets them down repeatedly.

I loathe the current playoff format, but if the playoffs started tomorrow, it would deliver Bruins/Habs. Way to go Ottawa!

Big win for Tampa, pretty much putting a dagger in the hearts of the Panthers. If the Bolts get in and get Stamkos back, they could do some damage.

There was an interesting scrum in front of the net in the Buffalo/Columbus game between the Foligno brothers. The camera then panned to their dad in the audience getting a nice chuckle out of it. Was hoping to see sibling rivalry in action and have them drop the gloves, but it didn't happen.

NEW YORK — Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is out two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.

The team announced the injury Saturday morning and recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg from Hartford of the AHL on an emergency basis.

If it's gotta happen, pretty fortunate timing. They are on cruise control.

Hopefully they don't play the Leafs or Sens. Essentially after Lundy just did us.

I would love to see a Bruins - Habs series although I would probably need a defibrillator to get through it and the Montreal fans at work would surround me lack a pack of wolves after a Habs victory. It would be worth it all to have a CHANCE to defeat those arrogant ******** .

Is it just me or are the linesmen suddenly allowing fights, and even allowing them to develop, where earlier they'd break them up pretty much before they even started, or let them go on for 5 seconds and step between unless there was a quick takedown?

Wonder how close the Landeskog deal was. . . love that guy as a player.

Hopefully the ridiculous way they handled McQuaid, allowing him to take punches while pinning his arms, was the turning point of the stupidity. If Quaider was injured during that, the NHL would have been 100% to blame. They are probably looking after their own interests by backing off a bit.
