Their forwards should be top 10 offensively and top 3-5 defensively.

That kinda sorta helps a bit.

Just saying

Lots on this board coached or played hockey even it was for Toms Bait & Tackle on Thursday night Industrial Leagues. Especially organized hockey know the value and importance of forward defensive play

Defense is 6 guys and we have the best forward group in hockey but I'll make it top 5 to show I'm balanced

This is going to really help the D

Also Boston with Backes and Moore should have a much better FO % meaning more time with the puck

Sometimes you can't get the high end starting pitchers so you try and build a strong bullpen and have a good defense

This is one thing Sweeney has clearly done

I apologize for bringing this up because Im enjoying the fear and hysteria

My daughter boy friend moved here in 5th grade from Portugal and was all soccer. He never saw a hockey game but from EA sports he learned the game and the players

He did same with baseball.

He goes to about 5-8 games a year now so he knows the players but it was weird early on when he'd ask me about certain players I'd think he should have no idea about

29 pts last year, 35 the yr before. Benching isn't about total points, its about effort/play in previous games. He was playing like ass-got benched. I wouldve kept connolly at 1 mil and traded hayes personally but Connolly and yakupovs are projects. You know what you will get with hayes. About 15/15 maybe slightly more.

So you would play Hayes over Heinen, Csnarik, Acciari, Ferlin, Griff, and Kuraly?

I don't think its a far fetch to think any of the kids could reach 30 pts and have more upside.

Marchand - Bergeron - _______
_______ - Krejci - Pastrnak
Spooner - Backes - _______

That's how I see it up front right now.

Belesky has a spot in the top-9 locked up. Pretty much exclusively a LW, so he fills the void on Krejci's other side. Czarnik and Heinen are the other two guys. Czarnik is more mature. Turns 24 early in season. Already has a full pro season under his belt. I would wager he's more ready to take on the responsibility of being on a line that's expected to play shutdown defense and score.

Hayes is the other guy....his salary probably dictates he's on the 23 man roster. I bet he's given until at least mid-season before they pull the plug. Haven't been impressed with Riley Nash in the two pre-season games I've watched him in. Hayes starts over him if you're looking at 4th line RW IMO.

Marchand-Bergeron-Czarnik
Beleskey-Krejci-Pastrnak
Spooner-Backes-Heinen
Schaller-Moore/Nash-Hayes
Moore/Nash

I like the experimentation too.

And I like that Hayes is practicing with "projected" 4th line candidates while Heinen is getting a chance with projected 3rd line candidates.

You know it's never a good sign when you're swapping out lines with a guy in Rinaldo whose currently suspended by the NHL and has pretty much zero chance to be in Boston.

What are they going to do with Hayes? Useless on the 4th line, can't kill penalties, needs to play with skilled players to be remotely effective. I know what they should do (trade him for whatever) but what will they do, I don't think they are ready to severe ties with him just yet.

Why not just give him a shot on Backes' wing? Just because he's not good with Krejci, Bergeron or Spooner doesn't mean there's no chance he's good.

He's useless on the 4th. I'd give him a couple weeks with Backes.

Well we really don't know if he'd be any good on the RW of Krejci or Bergeron, he's barely played there. Most people cringe around here at any suggestion of Hayes playing in the vaunted "Top 6".

We know he stinks with Spooner as his middle-man.

If he were to be put with Backes, and I don't like the fit but it they did they would need some skill/speed on the other wing. So basically not Belesky.

Definitely not Beleskey. Maybe Heinen. Vatrano when healthy.

A fantasy "Hayes-less" line-up.

Marchand - Bergeron - Czarnik (Line 1, whatever line has 63/37 is line 1)

Spooner - Backes - Pastrnak (Line 2-A, two fast skilled guys + physical grinder type)

Belesky - Krejci - Heinen (Line 2-B), two methodical skilled guys + physical grinder type)

Nash/Schaller - Moore - Nash/Acciari (Line 4, Moore the top face-off man is the constant)

It was more about the comment you had saying he is useless in the league "waive him, send him to providence" Id rather alot of the rookies play over him, but he has proven ability to play at the level. Id rather it with another team, but he is not a caron or ahl qaulity player. And ferlin would be a hit if he could put up 30. Idk if he has that potential, maybe he can recover better from the concussions. Accari had an astounding 1 assist last season. When the rookies outplay him move him down/to the pressbox/trade him/let vegas claim him. But to waive an asset that could return us a mid rd pick, is foolish.

I like the second line up much better, not a big fan of Nash as of yet, but will see how he does when the season starts. I might have gone with Randell or Acciari 4th line over Nash. Also who sits and how do the lines look when Vatrano gets back?

Faceoffs are a good point.

Bergeron 57.1
Krejci 50.1
Backes 52.0
Moore 55.3

Spooner had 42.0
Talbot 47.5
Kemp 49.5
Kelly 42.3
Acciari 44.1

Great stat Lou!

I think just based on that I'd prefer in DB was kept at centre and move Spoonsy to the wing.

I'd say it will depend on how Heinen and Czarnik fare if they do make the team. And how Hayes produces his first 20-odd games.

Don't discount Vatrano going down to Providence for a spell to get up to speed after being off for a few months. Depending on how he does down there and how much he is needed by the big club at that point in time, he might be in Providence longer than we think.

I would do this

marchand-bergeron-spooner
heinen-krejci-pasta
beleskey-backes-czarnik
hayes-moore-nash
randell

backes can still take the draws if he plays RW with spooner at C, but you know Claude will have #42 there within a week.

and that fourth line could be a wrecking ball, but in a good way! :)
