That being said, with Saarijärvi and Juolevi (hopefully) returning, and Vainio, Niemeläinen, Välimäki and Salo being fully ready to tackle this level, our D group for next year is looking quite nice.

In addition Puljujärvi, Laine, Aho and Saarela are all eligible to return, if they're not playing in the NHL by that time(which I think is unlikely for most of them). Nättinen, Vehviläinen and Björkvist can return as well. Could be a pretty strong and balanced team.

if laine and puljujarvi both go top 5 in the nhl draft its going to be difficult for those teams picking them to not have them in the NHL. especially since those 2 are both already playing pro hockey.

5 goals, 7 assists in 4 games for Puljujarvi... unreal.

The next highest point total (outside of his linemates) is Mathews with 8.

Big question is, can he keep 3PPG pace in the NHL?

Bust.

:sarcasm:

The scary thing is, he still has time to grow and he's certainly going to fill out in the next few years.

If he's playing at 6'3"-6'4"and 225-230 lbs in the next few years he's going to be a MONSTER. That's almost Ovechkin type size.

Really looking forward to watch this kid's career.

:yo::yo:

A good result from that last game, I guess, given that the team was battling through the runs. Hard to evaluate their performance because of that either.

I hope Vehviläinen can excuse himself with that as well. Although, whether he can or not, I still have to wish upon a star that we have Kähkönen in net on Saturday.

I think the heart and sisu they showed tonight was great. They never gave up and got the result they wanted despite the lack of D. Good to know they can come back in the games. This has been so hard tournament for us.. don't remember when we have had this kind of tournament.

23 goals in 4 games. I don't think we have had this kind of scoring in a long time. And they are still wasting their opportunities.

No way Canadians let that Puljujarvi Aho Laine -line play full game. There will be an injury before 30 minutes mark.

Oh well, honestly, I won't really care if they lose to Canada (as they well might with that undisciplined, unorganized, un-Finnish defence) - to see this amount of top talent in Team Finland is enough in itself. I'm not sure if we have ever seen anything like this...

Unimpressed with Vehviläinen, puck seems to bounce back into play every time. I think this is why he wasn't drafted last year. Can look good, but when you look real close you start to think there are problems..

I know your forwards are probably the best in this tournament, but what about your defence? Sweden's D is pretty average..

Just jinxing

why Finland will lose in quarter finals:

-Canadian Dmen are way better than anyone else Finland has played against in this tournament.
-Canada knows Pula-Aho and will do everything to shut 'em down
-Slovakia, Czechs and Russia were soft (except Zboril :yo:), Canada won't be soft, they are frustrated and will be checking like never before.
-Finland is having this diarrhea/vomit blast, they won't be leaving brown marks on ice on Saturday but will definitely feel weaker than normal.
-Our D sucks
-Our secondary scoring lacks superpower
-Our goalie gives easy goals

Why Finland wins:

-Jake Virtanen isn't very good hockey player
-Wide rink
-Canadians have no idea how to play hockey this year

I know what you mean, but the games have been so entertaining that I think it'd be a real shame if the game against Canada ended up being the last one for this team.

I was thinking same think earlier (watching recorded Swe - Can) It's not that Finland has not won lately WJCs, what is more important:

We already won the most valuable thing, we have all the best talent :yo: AINEC!!!!

True true, Liiga sucks compared to these galores

Wasn't just me then seeing Vehvilainen extremely nervous in net.

He's now last in tournament's goalie statistics (for those goalies that are eligible to be in the stats).

http://www.worldjunior2016.com/en/statistics/#players

#12 with 85.71 Goals against average.

It's still gonna be close pick between Kähkönen and him though. Vehviläinen let that one goal on empty net today, but he also stopped 2 breakaways and that one nice save with his stick.

My pick would be Kähkönen for the QF game, as he has looked slightly better. I got a feeling Jalonen will pick Vehviläinen.

It's mind boggling Finland has all the best goalies every year in every league and games, once they have offensive talent.. goalies sucks first time ever

To me, the choice between Kähkönen and Vehviläinen should not be even close. If a goalie can't handle the basic requirement for this level - as in, catch every shot he sees with 99% accuracy - his ability to pull the occasional game saver won't make up for that fact.

Vehviläinen has now let in five stinkers in his last two games, and that should simply be too much for everyone who can read the game beyond picking up the flashy, acrobatic saves. If he starts the QF, then there's a good reason to suspect Kähkönen is battling through some kind of injury.

Exactly

I thought the team in 14 was heart-wrenching to watch with the lowly roster, but this is actually worse. Every time the opposition enters our zone I am holding my breath in anticipation of the worst to happen.

Yep.. Everytime I am scared when the opponent has the puck on our zone. I hate that feeling.

The team of 2013 was somewhat similar in that sense. Korpisalo has done pretty well for himself since then, but he just wasn't enough yet for that squad.

Of course, coaching was abysmal that year too, so... I suppose we could actually consider this progress. Can't say Jalonen has been flawless, but he's still clearly in whole another league when compared to Rindell.

My god that team was awful to watch. So much talent yet nothing to show for it. It seemed like the team didn't even have a game plan and the players just came in to play without definite purpose as if it was pond hockey.
