When I read that this morning it really just sounded like the FO was having a tough time deciding what they were doing with the team... Not that Letstu wouldn't be back.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree. It wouldn't have been until two/three weeks ago that the FO would have thrown in the towel. I'm not surprised that in those first 2-3 weeks, what we plan to do with Letestu was the top priority. There is still a month. This is a contract that could come together fast. Likely other meetings/trips were scheduled in the meantime.

-- After a fairly high-paced practice yesterday, Richards threw his players a bone at the end of practice with the always popular "shootout elimination" drill. Score and you're done; get stopped and you keep shooting until the last man stands ... in shame. It took 12 rounds to settle. Ryan Johansen and Corey Tropp were the only two to score in the first round. Scott Hartnell, Cam Atkinson, James Wisniewski, Letestu, Jack Johnson and Cody Goloubef scored in the second. Brandon Dubinksy, Calvert, Nick Foligno, Dalton Prout and Jordan Leopold scored in the third. That left six players. David Savard and Ryan Murray scoured in Round 4. Nobody scored in rounds 5 or 6. Kevin Connauton scored in Round 7, leaving Fedor Tyutin, Jared Boll and Jack Skille. None of them scored in rounds 8, 9 & 10. Tyutin scored in Round 11 and Boll in Round 12. Yep, Skille went 0-for-12 against goaltenders Curtis McElhinney and Anton Forsberg. That's sort of been his luck lately: 10 games without a goal.

What i took from the article...no wennberg at practice?

multiple sources familiar with the situation have since indicated that Kane was not on the team’s bus to Rogers Arena and then missed a pre-game meeting. Repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful until approximately an hour before puck drop, when Kane answered his cellphone and said he wouldn’t be playing against the Canucks that night.

Earlier in the day, the 23-year-old winger is said to have had a run-in with teammates.

Kane wore a track suit when the Jets players gathered that morning — a violation of team policy. Following a brief workout and stretch, [Dustin] Byfuglien is said to have thrown those clothes into the shower to send a message to his teammate, according to sources.

That was the last the Winnipeg players saw of Kane until the team’s charter flight home.

Scratch me off as one of the guys interested in Kane.

Seems pretty juvenile to throw someone's clothes in the shower like that.

What does he think this is, high school?

I'm not sure if they let Letestu walk it will be all about the $$$. Somehow, sometime they have to make room for the prospects that will be ready at some point. Dano only has 2 years left on his entry level deal. Rychel I believe will have 3 unless he comes back up and plays more than 9. Wennberg is already entrenched it seems. Anderson looked like he could be a good 4th lliner.

Cam isn't going to go because of $$$. He is having a lousy year from a point aspect which negates any power he may have had in arbitration, imo. I see him getting a "prove it" deal at a fairly low $ if he doesn't get traded. If he goes it will be in an attempt to upgrade the team.

Yes, and many were saying this last summer, and look how that went. Jobs should be taken, not given. If Letestu gets 3 years, and sometime down the road we decide we want to give his job to Dano, then Letestu is probably easy to move.

I still wish they had complianced Umbie and not acquired Hartnell. Sooner or later that deal will haunt us.

I was saying that last summer and I changed my mind. Hartnell is a good hockey player. I love his passing and his intensity. There's a chance (sad but true) that none of our prospects will ever be as good as he is.

Is that really foreign to the NHL though? When somebody on your team repeatedly breaks the rules, how often do veterans step up and do the sort of thing Byfuglien did? It sounds like the sort of thing Dubinsky would do.

I sort of agree but by the same token you can't lock up 4th liners, even versatile ones, for long terms when you already have Foligno,Hartnell,Dubinsky, Joey, and Jenner locked(hopefully in the last 2 cases) for the next 4-6 years. Not to mention Anisimov who will want term in addition to $$$ if we attempt to re-sign him. (Which I don't see happening)

I still wish they had complianced Umbie and not acquired Hartnell. Sooner or later that deal will haunt us.

I don't think 4th liner is a fair assessment of Letestu, or even particularly accurate. If you're using 4th liner rhetorically, you're talking about a different kind of player than he is. If you're talking literally, his special teams play and even shootout abilities, as well as his ability to play up in the lineup, count. His scoring pace certainly isn't 4th line material.

What if the price is low?
As for Letestu, are there any other 3rd/4th line UFA's this Summer that might be better then Letestu? I wonder if management has an eye on someone and hoping that they become a UFA. I can think of two. Shawn Matthias from the Canucks or Soderberg from the Bruins. Everyone else are either old(Horcoff, Cullen), makes too much money(Stoll) or aren't a upgrade(Brodziak,Kennedy). Not sure who else is available. I can see Columbus wanting him but telling him, "We're going to explore the market first". Then he gets tired of waiting or gets an offer he can't refuse and ends of signing it. It would suck if Columbus comes back empty handed.

No way, JD and JK have preached character and hard work since they got here. He does not fit in the blueprints of the brick by brick model. Is he talented? Of course but i dont think they are even mildly interested in him.

Well, they said that but then they went and traded for Gaborik. Who, as it turns out, didn't fit the character profile they're looking for.

Would love to hae Soderberg too but, I would be suprised if the Bruins let him walk.

Regarding Letestu, if the CBJ don't bring him back, it's because they believe the replacement is in the organization. I have a hard time believing a deal would be that difficult to make if both parties are interested. Organizations tend to stick with the 'devil they know' unless the player just isn't performing - and I don't really see that with Letestu. He's a good soldier, still fairly young and a good player. It's just not how they work, IMO. On the Letestu side of things, I can't imagine he's very happy with his current role and I have to think there are better options out there, so he may very well not really want to stay.

Anyway, it seems to me the writing is on the wall that he's going to be moved at the deadline and replaced internally (think Chaput). I'm not crazy about losing him, but it just doesn't seem like he fits any longer. The only way I don't see this is if he were to sign a 1 year deal - but I just can't see that happening.

Unless his agent was BSing I think Letestu definitely wants to stay based on his agent's comments....

So E. Kane is out 4-6 months with shoulder surgery. Dreger reports it won't scare all teams away. I would imagine we could be one of those teams.

Winnepeg now has a trade asset that would add nothing to their aspiring playoff run (that they really need).

I'd definitely put something around Anisimov/Atkinson + Defender for Kane and a conditional pick (based on number of games played).

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went to the highest bidder from the East in these circumstances. I can only imagine it being teams way out of contention. Interesting.

Short of getting arrested, I've never seen the value of a player decline in such a miniscule period of time the way Kane's has.

You can't trade injured players though, right? So he's definitely more of a "trade at the draft" piece.

You can.

It's hard to tell how much this injury may have affected him.

The earlier report of him coming in athletic clothes may have been his expectation he was getting treatment. Hard to know what's behind that. Not going to pretend like I know him. I'm sure the FO would do a good job on that. Just thinking this is more interesting now.

What's the hype with Kane? Dude has one 30 goal season and nothing above 20 besides that. Plus, injuries and such.
