Right now is a very difficult time to put a price tag on wennberg but if it were up to me ( even if we were in playoff contention) I would not trade wennberg for kessel. Wennberg is playing the penalty kill and is obviously a fantastic defensive forward with a huge offensive upside. It's very rare for a player at his age to be so defensively sound as well as having a very high hockey IQ. To me he has shown as much as some of the better rookies in team history if not more. I would have a very hard time trading wennberg right now just because I am so optimistic about his future.

if you'd give up a lottery pick before the lottery happens you're.. well.. not thinking straight

then there is this to consider. I lost my train of thought ^ and forget about the timing. I'd rather make the trade after the lottery so that we know where our pick is. No way do I give up a #1 in this draft if we would be so lucky. And I might hesitate if we are picking top 6 or so. Beyond that I think I'd really consider it.

Wennberg, the man who has all of the subjective stuff but no real offense, for Kessel? I would drive Wennberg to Canada in my own car.

RWs of interest
Nashville - James Neal/Craig Smith
Tampa- is loaded at RW/Kucherov/Callahan/Connolly
Florida- Not sure if Huberdeau can play on the right or not.
Minny-Pominville/Alex Tuch (prospect)/not sure about Vanek.
Toronto-Kessel (getting Wiz off the books in addition to LTIR for Horton, would help that cap hit.)
Anaheim- Silfverburg
MTL- Galchenyuk/ the timing of the Smith-Pelly trade is interesting.

These might be the kind of assets that would be available in the offseason, but not at the deadline when most of these guys are significant contributors to their teams. The only guy I don't like on that list is Kessel. I know that he's talented, but we've already had a prima donna here and it was a disaster.

I'd love to get one of these guys, but you are right, outside of Kessel and Tuch, probably not likely during the season.

I could live with another prima donna as long as the next prima donna isn't wearing the C.

I was actually talking about Carter, not Nash. I would take Nash back in Columbus in a heart beat, but that's a discussion for a different thread.

I think if we're dealing with a contender, you're only going to get picks, prospects or roster players that the contender can live without. My expectations are pretty low, because really the only teams that should be interested would be Cup contenders that need a PP boost. Those options are pretty limited. If I were Wiz, if I don't get moved by the deadline, I would count on getting moved in the offseason.

Both players have similar cap hit so the teams' salary cap doesn't change much. So why would this deal take Montreal out of the running for Wiz? It wouldn't....:shakehead

It's funny because last week on the main trade board I made a thread... 'Value of Wiz'. And most of the people commented back saying that Wiz will not be traded and that it's not realistic....

I listed in that thread the few teams that I think Wiz could be traded to and I'm still sticking with them: Tampa Bay, Detroit, Anaheim, Montreal.

b/c it was reported at one point ( will have to search for it) that CBJ liked Sekac...so that is why...not having anything to do with cap hit...

This. Teams contending aren't giving up good players at the deadline.

Best case scenario might be a team with an unwanted impending UFA that also has a low draft pick they picked up in trade plus a prospect.

Timing does seem strange for trying to trade him.

I follow mostly all 'insider' nhl media and have not heard Sekac mentioned with CBJ at all. I posted on this same thread last week asking if Sekac would be of interest...

Anyways, highly unlikely that we'd trade Wiz within the division but would Brouwer + 2015 2nd + b/c prospect be of interest? Brouwer would fill in nicely with CBJ.

Do you guys think your team would retain any cap?

I was thinking Sharp for Tyutin (20% retained) would make some sense for both teams

You guys get goal scorer who is currently blocked out of Hawks top 6 (Saad + Steeger play this year have earned them top 6 LW spots and with Hossa/Kane he cant slot into top 6 RW)

Sharp is signed for 2 more year at 5.9M

Retaining 20% on Tyutin would be Jackets keeping 950k in cap for next 3 years. Hawks would end up with Tyutin at 3.8M for next 3 years

Sharp has NMC/NTC so not sure he would waive it but if he did would this be a deal Jackets would do?

Also worth noting... Jackets have scouts at the Rangers/Flames game.

Randy Sportak of SUN: "Scouts at #Flames-Rangers game from STL, DAL, BUF, OTT, ARI, CHI, DET, MIN, FLA, CBJ, CO, MTL, TBL. And GMs Dave Nonis and Doug Armstrong."

Not sure if it was mentioned but apparently Columbus had scouts in the Flyers/Canes game. I know Flyers always wanted a defensemen(although not sure if Wiz is the right one) and the Canes wants to keep Sekera but asking pricing might be to high. Wiz as a replacement? Both are divisional rivals so can't eliminate either team. Who do you think they were scouting?

Hurricanes fan here. I don't think we are trading for any vets. Future assets (prospects/picks) only.

We are moving Sekera because he's an UFA after this season. He asking 5-6 mil. Right now he is only a 2.75 mil cap hit. I just looked it up and you guys have wis making over 5. Not looking for a more expensive option. Some playoff contender, it's looking like possibly LA is going to give up some valuable future assets to get Sekera as a rental.

Any updates on Letestu? Seems like he might be on his way out?

Haven't heard anything.

From Arace's article this morning re: Wiz and his stated desire to remain in Columbus:

(Here is a question: Do you appreciate Wisniewski’s commitment or do you wonder about a player who wants to stay when management wants him to go?)

A bit of both. If he stays maybe he puts forth extra effort and makes them eat their words.
