Here's my thoughts.

If Arizona takes Dylan Stome 3rd. That leaves a small forward in Marner or a D in Hanafin for Toronto. They will be dissapointed in both since they covet a big center as well.

If we are thinking of using Drysaitl on the wing, or placing him 3rd line under McDavid and RNH that is not desirable either.

Do you think it makes sense that we trade Drysaitl for Torontos pick. They get the big center they want whos 1 year farther in development and a WHL MVP, and we get to draft the best defencemen in the draft.

Works out well for both sides no?

I'd hate to give up Draisaitl but this almost makes sense...

We trade our physically big centre, who is trending to be a very good player. For 4th and take Hanifin? Leafs really need to sweeten the pot! More like 4th + leafs 2nd and prospect. Oilers don't need to trade LD.

I'd do Drai for Hanifin all day. But then I'd turn around and deal Hanifin to the highest bidder for players that can help us win now. With all the Dougie Hamilton talk I have to wonder if Boston would consider a Hanifin/Hamilton swap. Local kid who's ELC would help Boston keep other key pieces. I think Boston has come to the realization that a bridge deal for Hamilton is unlikely and he is going to get payed one way or another this summer.

Another option would be trading down from 4 to say 7th or 8th and picking up a solid roster player who fills a hole on the roster. Trading number 4 may also be the easiest way to dump a few players like Purcell, Nkitin, Scrivens, or Ferrence.

Too many risk factors (KHL, Vasilevsky hype, goalie risk) to even entertain Samsonov at 16. Assuming nobody drops, Svechnikov or Roy would be great.

Maybe this is the year that we get aggressive at the draft and try to hop over Buffalo and get back into the first round to pick Samsonov? Would 33+79 be enough to get up to say 28-30?

It'd make more sense to deal the pick to Arizona imo. Draisaitl is probably 2 years closer to being NHL ready than Strome imo (and a lot of scouts view Draisaitl as the better prospect), and since they don't have a ton of time to rebuild, it would create more hype to bring in Domi, Duclair, Draisaitl, etc around the same time

Not sure I'd want to deal Draisaitl within the division while helping Arizona speed up their rebuild...

Trading Up At The Draft???

Would it be possible for the Oilers to maybe package their 16th, one of their seconds, and a mid level prospect to get into the top 10?? This may be used to pick a better player. Or package say the 6th overall with something to get an established dman.... I apologize if this is up already and needs to be merged but I couldn't find it anywhere

We definitely have the picks to move up. I could see Dallas trading back a couple of spots.

If Crouse falls to 10 or later I'd definitely be interested in trading up for him. Hated the idea of taking him top 5 but after 10 he's a solid pick. Could be a great fit to play with McDavid in the future.

Moving into the top-10 is going to take more then the Oilers would be interested in, imo, but trading up to the 10-12 range might be something they look at depending who's there.

As suggested if any of Crouse, Hanifin or Provorov drop to that spot, they might look hard at it, imo.

I would agree if I didn't watch Cam Fowler do it the Hall Draft, so I assume nothing about how it's going to go. For all we know, Crouse might go 3rd or 4th and Strome might fall.

I am okay with trading up if any of these are available, but why has Zach Werenski fallen off of everyone's radar? If he drops I'm all over it. I want him more than Crouse or Provorov! He's a big dman with heaps of offensive talent, excellent skating and a huge shot. All three of the big dmen are lefties, so we're still stuck in that sense, but I want a young offensive dman to run our PP and be a scoring threat from the point. Unless we're banking on J Schultz turning it around to be our go-to offensive d-man (AND develop a one-timer and slap shot), I'd say that a good puck-moving d-man who is a scoring threat is very high up our list of needs. Klefbom and Nurse both are looking to be developing into good defensively sound options (Klefbom hopefully can grow into more of a two-way guy and Nurse has certainly put up good offensive numbers this year), but neither seem to have the game-breaking offensive skills that Doughty, Weber, Karlsson, Subban etc provide. The threat of a real point shot is something that our team really is missing, imo. You can see it any time we play - the opposition can cheat towards our forwards because teams know there's very little threat coming from the blue line.

It's the same reason I voted for Kylington in the poll (though I'd take Werenski over him for sure) - I still think he can turn it around, and he has the type of skating and talent we desperately need on the back end. I recognize though that it's a very risky gamble.

I would be fine with him too, he's just not as high on my personal radar, but that doesn't mean he isn't a hell of a prospect.

Meloche at 6 is interesting. Like Werenski, he's a July '97 birthday, and he's the most physical d-men in that top 10. Wouldn't take him at 16 but I'd be interested at 33 for sure.
