If it goes the way I'm anticipating, we could see a Canada/USA/Swiss/Slovakia/Denmark group. Denmark will have their chances their to maybe steal a spot from the Swiss or Slovakia. They need Ehlers back though.

On the flip side of that, Belarus would be left in a hopeless group with Finland, Czechs, Russia and Sweden. And someone here said they won promotion with mostly 19 year olds, so it won't be pretty if that happens.

I see it like this

1. Canada
2. Sweden
3. Russia
4. Slovakia
5. USA
6. Check Republic
7. Finland
8. Denmark
9. Swiss
10. Germany

So heres what it would be.

Group A:

Canada
Slovakia
USA
Denmark
Swiss

Group B:

Sweden
Russia
Check Republic
Finland
Belarus

Man that B group.

Wait just realized that this was pretty much the same post as Canada4gold. Opps

Every year I hope that somehow someway we will get a Canada/USA/Sweden/Russia/Finland pool. Had Finland went to the relegation side then it would have been possible this year, but not to be. It would be really fun though, 5 of the best teams fighting it out, just to not go to the relegation side, while teams like the Czechs, Swiss, and Slovaks just cruising in the other group

U.S. and Czech republic should be required to play for 5th place.

U.S. and Czech republic should be required to play for 5th place.

USA out pointed the Czechs so not really. You could say the same for Denmark and Finland, they were both 4th but in this case had 4 points each, Finladn had a better goal differential so they got it.

Do they go by points primarily or or group placement? Like say the Fins beat Canada in OT, then they would have had 6 points, but still in 4th. Would they have finished ahead of the Czechs beating them in points 6 to 5, or would the Czechs have finished ahead of then beating them in group placement 2nd to 4th

so now it is coming down to this

Group A:
1 Canada/Russia
4 Slovakia/Sweden
5 USA
8 Denmark
9 Switzerland

Group B:
2 Canada/Russia
3 Slovakia/Sweden
6 Czech rep.
7 Finland
D1A winner Belarus

updated.
Could be CAN, SWE, USA group next year.

Good. As a Canadian fan seeing Russia, Sweden, Finland, and the Czechs in one group is not a good thing. Canada has been to the semis 17 years in a row and have finished 1st 11 times and 2nd 3 times in the past 14 years. I'm not concerned about them making the elimination round. The problem is after the semis you got stuck in a bracket with two teams from the other division meaning Canada would have to face a tough QF match if all the good teams are in the opposite division. This is for the best.

Group A- Henceforth known as the "Group Of Death".

Group A:
1 Canada/Russia
4 Sweden
5 USA
8 Denmark
9 Switzerland

Canada, USA, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden? Thank you very much.

For all those that are happy to be in a week Group B, just keep in mind that the quarters (which is really the worst game to lose) are crossover games.

Would have been funner if the Czechs lost to Russia, have the Czech 9th, switch them and the Swiss. Then Denmark would have been 3rd, thus they jump Finland.

Canada/Russia, Sweden, USA, Finland, Czech Republic in 1 group.

Canada/Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Denmark, Belarus in the other.

Yes I know Czechs losing to Russia messes up the QF matches, so we wouldn't get the same results, but I'm saying it anyway :)

So, next year preliminary groups:

Group A:
1 Canada
4 Sweden
5 USA
8 Denmark
9 Switzerland

Group B:
2 Russia
3 Slovakia
6 Czech rep.
7 Finland
D1A winner Belarus

There is a rule, organizers could switch two teams between groups (this rule was applicated before World Championship 2015, Slovakia was moved from Prague group to Ostrava one instead Switzerland).

I hope the organizers allow Canada to player the US on the 31st of December. It has almost become a tradition.
