Something tells me we will somehow play mediocre in the round robin and end up playing one of the big 3 in the quarterfinal

So Sweden finally get to play Canada again next year in the tournament. When was the las time? 2011?

There is a rule, organizers could switch two teams between groups (this rule was applicated before World Championship 2015, Slovakia was moved from Prague group to Ostrava one instead Switzerland).

Huh, didn't know they could do that but I guess it was to have Slovakia play closer to their border. No reason for any of that for next years WJC since both groups will be played in Helsinki.

except that 80% one of them will have to play Russia
Russia should win their group easily and play the fourth place team, which will in all likelihood be Switzerland. Unless there's more Danish magic to come, of course.

Would have been funner if the Czechs lost to Russia, have the Czech 9th, switch them and the Swiss. Then Denmark would have been 3rd, thus they jump Finland.

Canada/Russia, Sweden, USA, Finland, Czech Republic in 1 group.

Canada/Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Denmark, Belarus in the other.

Yes I know Czechs losing to Russia messes up the QF matches, so we wouldn't get the same results, but I'm saying it anyway :)

This year , if Russia had lost in regulation time to Danes ( Danes were winning 2-1 and tying goal for Russia should have been waved off, since Russian entered blue ice before puck ) plus all other results stayed the same, the Russians would have been playing in the relegation round ! :amazed:

GROUP OF DEATH :amazed: Denmark and Swiss are doomed!

Both USA and 3kr's should be damn good nxt year...lot's of returnees ( even if Eichel won't be one )

It's actually the teams from the other group who'll have to play US, Canada and Sweden in the QF that are likely doomed. It could actually be a good chance for the Swiss to get a playable opponent in the QF.

And the Czechs will have the team that won Silver at the U-18

With a proper coaching and a solid goaltending (and both could very well be possible next year) I'm pretty confident in saying that we should be able to beat anyone. 96 and 97 is really strong generation we haven't had in years.

Wow, that group. US and Sweden will ice better and more experienced teams next year, the group stage will be a treat for any fan of hockey, lots of good matchups.

America could be absolutely stacked next year. I wonder if Hockey USA will push Eichel to stay in college one more year. If he does America could easily be the favourites, big ice or not.

Eichel, Mathews, Larkin, Milano, Schmaltz, Tuch, Wereski, Hanafin -- WOW. Basically the only impact player they had who isnt eligible to return if Fasching

I think Nylander will be Main reason for sweden raising
I think he looks like best fully developed mature player at his 18 years.
Just stop pressure for him in media.

So, next year preliminary groups:

Group A:
1 Canada
4 Sweden
5 USA
8 Denmark
9 Switzerland

Group B:
2 Russia
3 Slovakia
6 Czech rep.
7 Finland
D1A winner Belarus

There is a rule, organizers could switch two teams between groups (this rule was applicated before World Championship 2015, Slovakia was moved from Prague group to Ostrava one instead Switzerland).

It's an epic East v West confrontation!

I hope the organizers allow Canada to player the US on the 31st of December. It has almost become a tradition.

I think it is actually mandated in the WJC regulations.

Swiss and Denmark are gonna get crushed in round robin games, that's for sure...
