At the time of the survey, yes.

You know what other teams are at top of that list? Toronto. And they will sign every draft pick just as we have.

Another team? Edmonton. And none of their draft picks at the top have refused to report.

No-trade lists include crappy teams. We are a crappy team. We will not be there in 3 years.

None of this has anything to do with Eichel not playing here. Draft picks almost always sign with their team if offered a contract.

So ESPN’s Craig Custance had the idea to ask 10 agents about their clients' no-trade lists, to see if there are any commonalities. And lo and behold there was: Mediocre teams in frozen hell-scapes.

3. Buffalo Sabres

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...--winnipeg-according-to-agents-182227244.html

The article contradicts what you are saying. If the Sabres are good, players would want to play here. Winning trumps all.

3. Buffalo Sabres

Again: Bad team repels players. The market is great, it’s just a lack of success, which obviously could change. “If Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel are playing in Buffalo and they’re the players they look like they’re going to be, guys will want to play there,” said an agent.

Its been like that until now. I remember watching an Islanders game when Jason Blake played there and the commentators were talking about how rare it is that he was wanting to play in Buffalo and they don't hear that very often.

I am not going to search through the internet but probably at least the last 15-20 years it has been that way.

Anyways....where are people getting Eichel does not want to play in Buffalo?

Some ham and egger twitter guy from Vancouver said a couple scouts and an agent said Eichel doesn't want to go to Buffalo. Guy has 600 followers so take it for what it is.

This team will have no problem attracting players in a couple years. When they are competitive the players will come like any city in any sport. Players want a chance to win. The Pegulas are the X Factor now for Buffalo.

Hi,

I 'm new here and an absolute Sabres Fan ! I come from Germany.
Since 2006, I watch the Sabres games via Game Center Live.

Well, I am of the opinion . whether we pick McD or Eichel , both are top players, and we finally got a 1st line center! So enjoy the coming years, with Evander Kane , McEichel , Reinhart, Girgensons , Ennis and many other good prospects we are truly to be envied !
Sorry for the bad English , I use Google translator :)

Welcome to the board!

Better english than some people I know.

I really can't wait till Saturday

Players including Buffalo in their no trade clauses doesn't even necessarily mean they wouldn't come to Buffalo. We have multiple examples of players who, you know, waived their no trade clauses to come to Buffalo (Regehr and Gorges). As far as Lemieux refusing to come to Buffalo, talk about jumping to conclusions. All we know is that Lemieux turned down an offer. There are plenty of reasons for that to happen that have nothing to do with refusing to sign with Buffalo, like a guy who might've had a chip on his shoulder about how he felt he should be a first round pick wanting more money than he was offered.

Good lord Leaf fans are annoying on the trade boards. If we win the lottery Saturday, it might be unbearable on there for awhile

McDavid & Eichel, a NHL scouting director's take

CONNOR McDAVID

EYES (Vision)
“Excellent. High end. There’s different types of vision. Off the rush, how wide you see it and how deep you see it. Connor’s vision, where you see it the most is off the cycle down low. His back will be to the play and he’ll make a pass down low to someone you didn’t see. In traffic is where his vision excels.â€

BRAINS (Hockey sense/smarts)
“Elite. My definition of hockey sense includes: can they anticipate what the defenceman is going to do. It’s a chess match, and he gets it. He knows when to go fast, when to slow down, how to buy time and space when he goes laterally. There are explosive skaters who can’t control their speed. McDavid can go five feet and slow down or go the length of the ice full out. You always hear coaches (talk about a defenceman) taking away time and space. For a forward, then, how do you gain time and space? It’s by going laterally, it’s by slowing down. He can do all of those things. He can do it at full speed, he can do it however he wants. That’s what the elite guys like Crosby can do.â€

HEART
“He’s got lots of it. For a kid who has been under the (microscope) as much as he is, he’s got heart. It’s hard to imagine at his age and being an elite player, the scrutiny he takes. No matter how complete a player you are, people are going to try to poke holes in you. Through all that, for me, the guys who have heart are the guys who’ll do anything to win, no matter how glaring the spotlight. He’s that type of player.â€

MOUTH (Leadership)
“I can’t speak to it completely because I’m not in the room with him. But if you purely look at his actions, I would say he’s a good leader. He can carry a team on his back. More importantly, when its crunch time, he wants to make the difference, he wants the puck. He sacrifices for the good of the team.â€

HANDS
“Unbelievable. Soft and skilled hands. He can make all the soft little finesse passes, but when he needs to snap it, he can snap it.â€

WRISTS (Shot power, accuracy)
“I think he’s accurate and has a quick release. I think he can improve a lot when it comes to scoring from outside the top of the circles.â€

SHOULDERS/ELBOWS (Toughness)
“Oh, he’s tough. He’ll take hits to make plays. People say he shouldn’t have fought back in November when he injured his hand. I’m not a staged fight guy. But for me, that was the heat of the battle. You can’t take that away from the guy. It’s inside him. He just got fed up with the roughshod treatment. It’s too bad he broke his hand and you obviously didn’t want to see that. But I don’t fault him for that, it’s not like he goes looking for that.â€

LEGS (Skating/speed)
“He’s dimensional. That means he can go any direction, any time, full speed. Power, explosiveness ... ‘Dimensional’ means every aspect of skating you could ever want. And he’s got it.â€

FEET (Agility/footwork)
“For me, it’s really good. His feet tie in with his compete and his brain and his strength. In tight areas, his balance is so good while he protects the puck. Crosby is under six feet but he’s the same way. Like that, you marvel at just how low Connor’s centre of gravity is. He can hold guys off even on one leg.â€

JACK EICHEL

EYES (Vision)
“Really good. I would give the slight edge to McDavid because in the zone, McDavid’s might be better. But off the rush, I would say Eichel’s is better. That’s where he can be the most dangerous.â€

BRAINS (Hockey sense/smarts)
“Unbelievable. He’s the type of guy who you think is cornered but he’s far from it. He understands what defenders are going to do and he has the patience to wait until it plays out before he takes advantage of the play. He makes plays sometimes because he draws guys to him. He’ll have two guys coming towards him and you’ll be saying: ‘Get rid of it, get rid of it.’ He’ll wait until the last second, then complete it. He did that at camp in Lake Placid. He held a guy off with one hand and I’m thinking ‘Jack, dump it in, the defenceman is coming to hit you.’ Instead he waited until the last second, then he flips a perfect saucer pass to his teammate. He controls the play and he does it on his own time. He knew what the defenceman was going to do, had the anticipation and had the patience to wait for the defenceman to do it. He sucked him in, He just doesn’t panic.â€

HEART
“Tremendous heart. For what he’s doing starting as a 17-year-old in college hockey, it’s phenomenal. It’s not an easy place to play in. He’s looked at as a leader and there are just so many expectations. He’s playing against guys who are older and stronger than opponents in junior hockey. He’s playing against guys who know they might never play pro hockey so they’re taking runs at him. They have nothing to lose.â€

MOUTH (Leadership)
“You hear stories about how much he’s a team-first guy. We have a Boston-area scout who has been following Eichel since he was 14. And through all that time, he never talks about himself. Guys like that talk about winning, talk about their teammates ... When we’ve interviewed all the Under-18 (U.S. team) guys, they all to a man talk about what a great teammate he is. He’s this great player, sure, but he’s also just a regular guy. Interview any of his teammates and you’ll hear how great he is.â€

HANDS
“Unbelievable. Maybe they’re not as soft -- and I’m talking degrees or percentage points -- as those of Connor. But they’re still soft hands. And he can zip the puck. He made a backhand pass the other night that’s as hard as most guys his age do on the forehand. But he can make the soft passes, too.â€

WRISTS (Shot power/accuracy)
“That’s the difference between the two players. He’s got a way better shot right now. Unlike Connor, scoring from the top of the circle out is no problem. His shot is hard, is in control and very accurate. It’s a heavy shot, too.â€

SHOULDERS/ELBOWS (Toughness)
“He’s tough. You do notice that McDavid is more feisty -- he’ll shove, he’ll push. Jack will take the (bleep) and deal with it but he won’t strike back as much as Connor. In college, guys will go after Jack and he’ll look at them like: ‘Are you kidding me? I’ll see you after the puck drops.’â€

LEGS (Skating/speed)
“Once again, unbelievable. His first step is so explosive. His stride might be a bit bigger because he’s a bit taller than Connor but the difference isn’t that much. The other night, Jack and an opponent were even at the blueline. By the time they got to the red line, Jack had three strides on him. I just thought: ‘Are yokidding me?’â€

FEET (Agility/footwork)
“I notice that Jack is always moving his feet. Connor, on the other hand, will try to dig in and beat you with his shiftiness. He’ll stop on a dime whereas Jack is quicker and always moves his feet. He doesn’t stop and start as much as Connor. Jack will make a play, then go to an open area.â€

I don't even know why this is a topic of "serious discussion".

Why would he return to college when McDavid will be in the NHL? He finally has his chance to go up against him so to speak.

I feel like I want the #1 pick more because it will bother all the angry buffalo hating trolls that spent the last year abusing our fans then because of which player we get. That dual scouting report show's a bit of why it's not that important to me which one it is here...two amazing prospects that have ever box checked. Thank god they didn't change to three picks in the lottery until next year.

And 15 years ago when Buffalo refused to pay Mike Peca they got a reputation of being cheap and players didn't want to play here. Sorry your personal feelings get in the way but for ANY reason Buffalo has not been a place players want to come to for WHATEVER reason.

I have been a Buffalo fan long enough and heard enough shots at the Buffalo Sabres to know they have a reputation as a place players dont want to play.

but really this thread is about Eichel.
