For some reason the Blackhawks filmed Toews and Kane being told their roles for the upcoming all-star game.



Kind of mean how Q made it sound like Kane got to be a captain too at first and then is like... oh you're assistant captain.

Blackhawks media has a lot of time on their hands.

They also made an all star campaign video, which teams don't care for anymore. Props to them i guess since they got 5 guys in the all stars lol

Foligno plays for Columbus. ASG's in Columbus. Columbus players = Columbus fans making it out to the ASG festivities which then = big $$$ for the NHL. Also Chicago fans have grown massively in the last 6 years. Chicago's a real passionate place for their sports teams, so not surprised and Toews & Kane bring fans to the seats. Howard was chosen over Rask due to each team needs to be represented in the ASG and some could very much argue Howard's got the better season. Anyways I'm not putting Rask in as Howard's replacement either.

EDIT: I hope my Chicago comment doesn't get seen as me degrading them.

Perhaps the deserving Corey Crawford comes out with a steel chair and makes his case to be the boy.

Hell maybe Hossa secretly made the team and he's going to come out as his boy!

I'll bet Rozsival even made the team! Perhaps it's he that is truly Kane's boy?

I know it's the All Star Game, but no Crosby or Ovi surprises me.

Not choosing Ovechkin doesn't surprise me as much, as it seems like his "star power" (not his actual on-ice performance, but his off-ice marketability) has been diminishing recently as compared to others who are getting more of a marketing boost (Patrick Kane, for example), but Crosby is absolutely a surprise. They finally have a healthy Crosby going to the ASG and they don't name him captain - total surprise from a marketing standpoint.

As for the choice of Toews - I'm a Hawks fan and Toews is one of my 2 favourite players, but I think they should have chosen someone else who's more likely to show a bit of their real personality, and also because I think they've shoved the Hawks and Toews in enough people's faces lately. That said, I'm personally happy since I'm a Hawks and Toews fan, but I can see why everyone else is displeased with this choice.

I know they had to choose a Columbus player as captain, but I'm also surprised that the NHL was able to restrain itself from choosing Crosby and Toews as the captains given all the stupid Crosby vs. Toews crap that the media was spinning out half a year ago and the fact that both are poster boys of the NHL.

As for the draft - for fun, I'd personally like to see Toews/Getzlaf/Nash try to draft as many of their Team Canada (Olympics) teammates as possible (except for Doughty since he's on the other team) instead of just drafting all of the Hawks players.

In Nova Scotia....band wagoners go for Pittsburgh. Then go for Toronto, Montreal, Boston usually thru their parents passing down the love of that team.

Only 300 more straight sellouts to shake the bandwagon tag...But who knows, just next year the cap will ruin the team and then Wirtz might have to file bankruptcy because the team is losing money. First order of business will be firing the marketing team and saving payroll, which unfortunately will result in fewer Blackhawks making the ASG in 2016. But the rest of the league's fans will benefit and have the opportunity to never see a guy like Brassard snubbed again. And Rick Nash can be captain.

Well past captains had connections and stuff through National teams or so far back as junior days. What does Foligno have for connections like that? He isn't the most popular or well known player.

I'm sure he's friends with some of the other players that will be at the ASG aside from his NHL teammates. Plus didn't he play for Team USA at a few Worlds tournaments?

Maybe read my post again? I clearly said that the ASG is NOT a big deal. I'm in agreement. The sole purpose of the ASG is entertainment.
It's not meant to be super competetive like the olympics.

looking at the Cs and As, the league obviously really wanted to have it as toews vs. kane (chicago ran the board for voting so their fans obvious care about this dynamic) but since it is being held in columbus, gave the C to foligno.

if i were one of the captains i may be tempted to collude with the other team in order to troll a player who should obviously be picked early/first (eg. crosby or stamkos) and leave him last. this would alleviate the uncomfortable problem of actually having a player picked last since everyone would understand that it is a joke.
