Good to see Fleury get the nod.

We all remember what happened last time he was at Nationwide for a major game in front of an international audience.

Did you block game six out of your memory? Because that was his last "major" game at Nationwide.

But that would not help his argument
Not to mention his save% is higher because the hens D gives up more shots per game

Islanders 2nd in the league with 26.9 shots against/game.
Penguins 22nd in the league with 30.2 shots against/game. Edmonton is 18th BTW.

But man, it really sucks our defense is better and Halak has fewer chances to save the puck.

See? The NHL didn't forget Crosby and Ovechkin exist.

if you are throwing out stats... might aswell add the Wins category

Because wins are a team stats. People conveniently like to ignore that.

Wait, did you really just say that Fleury's save% benefits from facing more shots? That makes absolutely no sense. If anything, it makes it even more impressive that he has a higher save%.

Is that Girgensons next to Ovechkin? Bad picture.

Odd that the captains aren't there.

No unfortunately the NHL is not giving the people what they want and put Giroux on there instead.

Should have been Team Zemgus vs. Team Foligno.

Craig Anderson has a higher SV% than Fleury, but also has a higher GAA than Halak. Why? Because he faces a lot more rubber

But fleury manages to let less goals (lower GAA) despite facing more shots......…

Fleury faces more shots, has a lower GAA and a higher save% than Halak. I have no idea how you could draw "Halak>Fleury" from that.

And again, wins are a team stat. I don't know why people act like wins are some super meaningful stat. They're almost entirely team based.

That one extra win really pushes things in Halak's favor, you're right.

I'll give the answer everyone gives when they try to discredit Fleury: wins are a team stat.

You Penguins fans claim to have the two best players in the world - shouldn't that make it significantly easier for any goalie who gets in between the pipes?

If you honestly want to know just how good Halak is, stop focusing on stats and instead focus on the improvement of the team. While the Islanders have improved in nearly every area of the ice, the one that sticks out the most is the upgrade from Nabokov (5th worst in the NHL) to Halak (3rd best in the NHL).

It's a team game, and the additions of Leddy, Boychuk, Grabo, Kulemin as well as the development of youngsters like Strome, Nelson, and Lee plays a huge part in the team's success. But the most important aspect, by far, is Halak winning games that we'd have easily lost last year. Halak going into that next level during overtimes and shootouts.
