So. This thing is starting again pretty soon. The marketing seems to be sort of...well..not there, atleast here in Finland. I'm actually waiting for a drop in attendance compared to the yester year. Hope I'm wrong though, I like it. Catched some awesome games last year. Even went to see a game live, eventhough my team wasn't on it.

Went through the groups and there definitely seems to be three "groups of death" (groups that have teams from FIN, SWE and SUI) plus some groups that are not locks for the two stronger teams (for example Davos and Färjestad having to battle against Pardubice which is a weaker team but by all means not a certain third place finisher). However most of the groups seem to have atleast one significantly weaker team, which would have to pull a huge upset in order to advance to the play-offs.

My prediction for the group stage:

Group 1 (HIFK, Bern, Linköping): HIFK and Linköping advance. No matter how this group ends up being played the result will be one of the strongest teams in the whole competition being eliminated. IIRC Bern hasn't exactly shined in the previous Euro competitions, so they will get eliminated in this tough group.

Group 2 (Drurgården, Tappara, Zug): Tappara and Zug advance. Another tough group. Djurgården seems to be the weakest of this bunch.

Group 3 (Salzburg, HV71, Sonderjyske): Salzburg and HV71 advance. This seems like a no brainer. HV71 is a very tough team and Salzburg always does well in these.

Group 4 (Liberec, Nitra, Skellefteå): Liberec and Skellefteå advance. SAIK is a lock and Liberec seems to have a tad stronger roster compared to Nitra's.

Group 5 (Davos, Färjestad, Pardubice): The group I mentioned earlier. Davos and Färjestad advance. Pardubice will steal some points here and there, but is outclassed in the end.

Group 6 (Blues, Grenoble, Litvinov): Blues and Litvinov advance. Grenoble really in some tough company here. One point in this group would be a huge win for them.

Group 7 (Dusseldorf, Linz, TPS): TPS and Linz advance. TPS as the clear cut favorites in this one. Linz and Dusseldorf are seemingly neck to neck, but Austrians usuually battle harder at these so I give Linz the nod here.

Group 8 (Munchen, Kosice, Klagenfurt): Munchen and Klagenfurt advance. Pretty even steven group with Kosice being a tad weaker than the other two teams.

Group 9 (Mannheim, Vitkovice, Grodno): Mannheim and Vitkovice advance. No brainer. Grodno seems to have a pretty weak roster.

Group 10 (Krefeld, Kärpät, Vienna): Kärpät and Vienna advance. Kärpät is a no brainer. Vienna and Krefeld equal roster strenght but Vienna competes harder.

Group 11 (Gotteron, Lukko, Luleå): Gotteron and Luleå advance. A really tough group. Luleå as a reigning champion advances, with Gotteron barely beating Lukko for the second spot.

Group 12 (Trinec, KalPa, Stavanger): Trinec and KalPa advance. Stavanger challenges hard but is outclassed.

Group 13 (Geneve, Praha, Storhamar): Geneve and Praha advance. No brainer.

Group 14 (Frölunda, JYP, Sheffield): Frölunda and JYP advance. No brainer, eventhough Sheffield seems to have a rather solid roster on the British league standards.

Group 15 (Braehead, Ingolstadt, Växjö): Ingolstadt and Växjö advance. Again, nothing to see here.

Group 16 (Berlin, Gap, ZSC): Berlin and Zurich advance. Gap is in the wrong company here, crushed.

Phew, actually meant to write a longer analysis on the these groups, but this was tideous enough. Going to be fun to see how many of these I got right. There's going to be some upsets, no doubt, but I think I got most of em.

Yeah the marketing by MTV3 has been a joke. Looks like they will show all the games from Finnish teams in Katsomo for 39.95€

I noticed they began advertising this package heavily this past weekend. MTV3 really is a joke whe it comes to sports these days... :shakehead Well actually they've always been a joke but evne more now that they're laying off so many people because pay tv didn't turn out to be such a goldmine they hoped.

I watched the CHL last season and found it very entertaining. The players, the teams and leagues are all committed to create a great tournament. I know there needs to a few adjustments such as getting the KHL involved, a qualification round and the removal of the A-licenses. However, i truly believe this tournament has great potential and i will be watching. I say to my fellow North American Hockey fans please give this a shot. The round of 32 games are being aired on ONEWORLD sports.

What do you want to know about them?

Oh just some general information, how good are they, what's their fans like? If 500 fans are prepared to follow them to Gothenburg they must have a pretty dedicated fansbase. I honestly know bugger all about English/British hockey, what's a fair comparison skillwise, how professional is the league?

Just curious and hoping they take down Frolunda! :D

Game day! Will not be in the arena to watch Frölunda play Sheffield, unfortunately. But I will catch the game later tonight on svt.se.

If any finns are wondering about quality in Katsomo, works great with Chrome since it doesn't use Silverlight anymore.

TPS leading BWL 1-0 in the first period.

Wonder if you can get Katsomo working via PS4...

It's sad that the worst attendance are actually the Finn and Swede teams, where hockey is more popular than in any these other nations not named Czech or Slovakia.

Well to be fair it's really warm right now and hockey is not the first thing on people's mind. Liiga arenas traditionally haven't been packed until the temperatures fall below 10° C and it's raining more, which is usually October.
