Whaaaat. Link?

I'm sure there's more to it than that (not calling YOU out, just meaning maybe the org asked him to report to the AHL or something, dunno).

Cernak doesn't have a real leg to stand on refusing assignment in the CBA. But given the Kings just drafted him in the 2nd round they may be playing ball with him rather than hurting him by suspending him. This is a clear communication problem though. The Kings should have talked to him about this and/or Cernak should have made it clear he didn't want to go to junior. Then a loan agreement could have been worked out back to Kosice or elsewhere in Europe. Something got mixed up here.

Anyways should be at next Sat's game Reign game in Winnipeg and maybe Thursday's as well. Can't wait.

Lucky! I won't get to see the Reign in person until the day after Thanksgiving, when they visit the Gulls. Unless I drive up for the Gulls/Reign game on the 5th... still, I'd have thought the geographic rivals would see each other a little earlier in the season, especially when they play 12 times.

mersch with no goals? i am interested to see how he makes out this season.
newbury did well.

He also created problems for the Condors defense and goalie throughout the game right in front of the net.

yeah that's a huge upside of mersch's - that front of net presence, even when he doesn't create goals is such a hassle for the other team's defense/goalie. the kings need more of that, going right up to the oppositions net and not being stuck around the boards trying to work the puck out. someone should be there making a screen.

yep i read that. mersch had a lot of shots in preseason with kings too but only buried 2. he always generates lots of chances. just would be nice to see a few more goals come of them. i am sure they will. he's a great player. i just assumed he would've scored in a 5-0 win, is all.

Reign win it 5-0!! I only caught the 3rd period. But they looked pretty domainte. Cheers to Peter Budaj who went winless last year in 19 games! Comes to Ontario and gets a shutout in game 1. I try to see the lines and parings. I think this is what they were. Less confident about the d parings.

Kempe - Newbury - Backman
Mersch - Dowd - Zykov
Bissonnette - Crescenzi - Brodzinski
Sabourin - Horvat - Auger

Gravel - McBain
MacDermid - LoVerde
Raine - Ebert

Budaj
Emery

Who are the healthy scratches? Wonder what happens when Schultz reports and Cernak comes to town. A lot of extra bodies.

Leslie was the only healthy scratch. Lowry is injured. (Does anyone know when he's expected back?)

I'm still in a wait and see mode with Cernak. It's a weird situation. If Schultz clears, I would go with

Gravel - McBain
Schultz - Ebert
MacDermid - LoVerde
Ex: Raine - Leslie - Cernak?

Schultz has cleared, there is going to be a logjam in Ontario

If Cernak is on the team, my guess is that Raine or Leslie will be headed to Manchester. Possibly even MacDermid, it's hard to tell right now where these kids rank with the coaches and management.

Raine may have the best chance of staying, since as of this moment, the Reign have no extra fowards. And Raine has played foward before. The only extra foward right now is Joel Lowry who is injured.

As an Erie Otter fan, I hope that they send Cernak to the ECHL or even the Federal League. With an attitude like that, who would want them on their team? Kurtis McDermind was an Otter last year, and I certainly hope that they do not send him to the ECHL. Cernak would get to play with some top notch talent with Erie. Can you spell prima donna?

Reign Earn Opening Night Shutout – Notes and Bissonnette Interview

Saturday night in Bakersfield, years of planning finally came to fruition – the AHL was playing regular season games in California. The Kings top minor league affiliate, now the Ontario Reign, was set to begin defense of their 2014-15 Calder Cup Championship. Using a roster largely comprised of the same group who played in Manchester last year, the Reign defeated the host Bakersfield Condors 5-0 for their first victory of the new era.

As usual, Biz gives a good (audio) interview.

I understand its annoying for Otter fans.

Though, there is a big difference between Euro's and North Americans. Something I notice here as well. Even the slightest refusal against anything is prima donna behaviour. When a player like Daniel Spong makes some bold comments, he has character issues while he's just very outspoken. Here we just raise our eyebrowes, and think, what did he say wrong ?

This kind of stuff is more common in Europe but across the pond its seen as bad behaviour because Americans are much more obedient. Of course exceptions aside, because you can't generalize 300 million people but there's a big difference between North Americans and Euro's.

I seriously despise some of the stuff over there but also respect a lot of things, which we lack over here.

Didn't know that. It may well be a cultural thing. Well, let's hope he gets a quick education on what's expected and acceptable here. That said, we still don't know exactly what happened.

This is the last piece I read about Cernak & Erie. The Otters was trying to sell Cernak and family on Erie. Sounds like he declined.

Scratches were Lowry (not sure if he's healthy or not yet), Leslie, and Houser.

He had 7 shots, leading the team.

And to echo what everybody else has been saying, Mersch was magnificent last night on the forecheck and down low. Showed no ill effects from being demoted or losing his star linemates from last year. Here's but one example; he did similar work twice while shorthanded:

Mersch reminds me of Wayne Simmonds, without the fighting edge. But just a bull dog on the puck, and good hands around the net.

Howdy guys and gals -

Thought I would offer you guys the first right to this offer:

So here at the Reign we have an ice suite similar to the one between the benches at Staples Center. It has an unparalleled view of the ice surface and you will literally hear and see everything that goes on between the benches. A client of mine had bought the suite for opening weekend but had to drop it on short notice. I am offering the suite had $800 (regular price $1000) for either game on 10/23 or 10/24. That price is totally inclusive for 6 seats ($133 per person) in the ice box, buffet dinner for 6 in the San Manuel Club, and VIP Parking,

You will quite literally have the best seats on the ice for the 1st Ontario Reign home games.

Let me know if you want this. [email protected] - First come first served.

Just checked CNS' Twitter and found out that Mercury Insurance's T-Rex commercial has a man cave devoted to the Kings and Manchester Monarchs. Even has a framed Robitaille jersey.

Jonathan,

On another note, could you ask your I.T. staff to fix the stats button link on your homepage. It is still linked to the ECHL and the old Reign team.

Thanks
Brian
