Watching some of these guys on Team USA .... I can't believe Bailey didn't make it.

The power play does need some definite work. I don't like Eichel up high at all. And as has been pointed out, too much standing around. Canada's forwards are much quicker and come out the box more than the teams the U.S. has faced so far.

Honestly this could be kind of interesting to watch. Most teams would feed the US a steady dose of what they have been seeing. Pack the box tight and let them kick it around. Not really Canadian or NA hockey on the PK. They like an aggressive PK, it honestly could open things up for the US and create more movement as they try to get away from an attacking Canadian PK unit. It seems weird and given their personnel I wouldn't expect them to do it, but the Canadian's really should consider playing a tight box and backing off. The US has shown nothing in breaking that down, but I don't expect any NA coach to adopt this theory, it would be fascinating and I think a brilliant coaching decision if Canada actually borrows the European tactic and keeps the US spinning in neutral.

Based on the first 3 games, we need some more energy up front. Schmaltz has been pretty poor so far, where Compher and De Leo have both played with a lot of jump. I'd like to see lines changed to something like this, though I'm sure it won't happen.

Compher - Eichel - Tuch

Compher brings some quickness and net front presence.

De Leo - Matthews - Milano

De Leo provides some speed and moves the puck quickly. Milano and Matthews have looked OK at times.

Motte - Larkin - Fasching

Keep Larkin and Fasching together.

Schmaltz - Louis - Wood

Get Schmaltz going with 2 hard working guys in Wood and Louis.

Hayden
Schmaltz is wayyy too good. And Hayden's been Wayyyy better than Louis and wood, who probably shouldn't have made the team

Not a fan of the lack of changes up front from Osiecki after such a lackluster game. If there's no chemistry up front in the 1st period against Canada I hope he's willing to mix it up.

Any comments about the game I'll probably keep in here as well. I'm sure the GDT will be troll central.

Both goalies look sharp. Team USA is playing with fire though on their unforced turnovers on the break out. Every time it's happened Canada has been able to pin them in the zone and then get their best scoring chances when Team USA is forced into a bad change after.

I like the jump the U.S. has in this game but there has to be some finish. Still have a minute to work on the PP at the start of the 2nd period. Need some risk-taking I think.

About time Osiecki did the obvious and put Milano with Eichel. EDIT: so much for that

Compher and Fasching are both having horrible games which is unfortunate. They should thrive in a game like this yet they've both probably accounted for two-thirds of the turnovers. Hopefully they show up in period 3.

And Larkin needs to be on the PP over Motte on the 2nd unit.

Hanifin has been awesome tonight and he looks to be pushing the pace more offensively. I would assume the coaches had him play conservatively to start the tournament.

Another terrible turnover by Compher leads to that McDavid rush. Dude has been atrocious. That, however, should not have been a goal. Clear goalie interference. Surprised IIHF blew that as they're so hypersensitive to the blue paint.

could have used mike mccarron today. scored 3 goals and 6 points today in ohl.

Mccaron, bailey, Cassels at least one of these guys should have been on the team to at least provide depth

This team isn't that good. I thought so going in and I think we saw it today.

lol, it's one game that could have gone either way. Asking teenagers to play in a packed building in Canada, there's going to be nerves. It's a good game to get under the belts for the next round.

Yeah it's one game but when we lost this game two years ago I saw some positives at least. We had no answers today.

milano and schmaltz have been big time disappointments so far. u need more out of 2 skilled first rounders than what they have provided.

What? They just played the best team in the tournament to the very end and got hosed on the Lazar goal. Canada was better based on the entirety of the game but a break here or there and it would have been USA winning as well.

The US D is awful

Not really but it's not their strong point. Hanifin and DeAngelo are clearly the two best here.

You act as if McCarron and Cassels weren't with this team previously. Cassels was invisible despite being given more chances than he earned and McCarron was consistently behind the play as he couldn't keep up. They wouldn't have been worse than Wood or Louis but they wouldn't be difference makers either.

Exactly. It's like people forget the battles these two teams have had in their respective gold medal years. One team rarely beats the other twice.

Schmaltz just doesn't have the intensity to shine against a team like Canada.

Milano has been a victim to some bad breaks (he's been robbed of about 3 goals by the goalies so far) but I think he's struggling to find consistency because Osiecki keeps pin-balling him around lines. He's been with Eichel, Matthews and Larkin's lines and back and forth. Osiecki needs to stop being cute with his lines and just put him with Eichel and Tuch. It's ridiculous.

Two questions for the America fans here,

- In what way is Tuch better than Fasching? Tuch just doesn't have the puck skills Fasching has currently and should not be in the top 6 IMO.

- Who's idea is it in the coaching department that thinks the cross ice pass along the defensive blueline is a "smart" game plan? Countless number of turnovers including two Canadian goals because of it.

Passing was bloody awful all game. Cleaning up rebounds after the initial save was not good. The forwards were fighting the puck once they received a pass, especially entering the zone. The U.S. forecheck looked sparse at times.

If the passing, forecheck and rebound cleanup gets much better then the US can get out of the semis. Once they get out of the semi-finals then they need Demko to pull a Gibson 2013 3rd period against Sweden - so to speak.

I did like the fight from the US near the end of the game to keep it within one goal, twice. That showed me some character for sure.

Thank goodness for Demko!

In basically every way? Tuch didn't have a good game today (although neither did Fasching sans the pass to Larkin) but Tuch's a better skater, better hands, better shot, better physicality. Watch them both play more than once and it's obvious.
