Wow...just wow....

This is by far the most pathetic group of forwards assembled so far...I really am ashamed of many American players and hope USA Hockey keeps long memories come World Cup time...bravo to our defense as they are going to deserve purple hearts.

This team is bad. We have mediocre AHL guys.

This is going a bit overboard. At the end of the day- this tournament sadly is irrelevant in North America. I enjoy watching this tournament, but even in Canada this tournament is not even considered very important since the Stanley Cup Playoffs takes all the attention. I had to even beg my local sports bar last year to play the Canada WHC game on TV last year.

I understand why North Americans have little priority in this European tournament. It is not best on best, and so many players just take a pass. I was thinking, but this might sound absurd, but with the World Cup having a "North American Young-Star" under 24 team. I was thinking maybe in the WHC's every year- both Canada and USA should send a joint North American Hockey Team at the WHC. It would be great to see the Canada and USA flags flying together for once if this team did win, and it would make this tournament more interesting. Just a thought i had.

And make a 2nd tier tournament a gimmicky 3rd tier tournament? Why would the IIHF even entertain such an idea? It's a bad idea for the World Cup and it's a bad idea for the WHC.

Trust me. They all will win their series. Weber is a loss, no doubt about that, but even then the Preds have elite defensemen like Josi or Jones + Ekholm, Ellis, or Volchenkov. I'm not worry if Weber is out just for one or two other games.

Winnipeg is in a tough situation, true. But nothing is impossible.

Preds are now down 1-3, so...yeah. ;)

Ugh, save your terrible gimmicks for the NHL's sideshow.

Stanley Cup or no Stanley Cup, this is the USA men's national team and if players are available and healthy to play there is absolutely no excuse for players declining to represent their country. (Obviously if they had no interest in international hockey at all that's a different story, but these guys will be clamoring to be on the roster for the next Olympics and probably even the NHL Cup which makes me sick)

There's a reason I cheer way harder for the boys that actually show up to this tournament than I do the primadonnas on our Olympic teams. This tournament shows who actually gives a **** about USA hockey and the programs that developed them.

Yeah, that would be against the rules set by the IIHF, as it should be.

I actually came here to post this. A lot of American players have used USA teams to develop there games and gain even more national exposure. Is it justifiable to be angry at them for snubbing the "hand that got you there"? I think it is, but thats a different story I guess

Couldn't agree more. It's an honor to represent your country at any level, and you should accept it when offered. Unfortunately the USA has too many players who are only interested in representing their country when it's best-on-best.

Aside from Justin Abdelkader...who tends to think his purpose for being there is to see how many times he can get suspended...I highly respect the guys who accept invitations to this tournament. They usually play hard. Unlike our best-on-best guys, who laid down and died in the bronze medal game at Sochi.

I would imagine in the next couple of days we'll have our starting goalie in Connor Hellebuyck since Winnipeg is out and so is their AHL team. Hopefully Trouba plays too as long as he's not injured.

I can't imagine Wheeler would play as he has a small kid and he always declines this event. Byfuglien won't play as he's never shown up either. Guys like Stafford, Stempniak and Slater are UFAs and the latter two aren't what's needed on the team anyway.

Hellebuyck and Trouba would be two strong additions even if the team desperately needs forwards.

EDIT: Darren Dreger already confirmed an injury in play with Trouba. Given that he was injured at last year's tournament I imagine he'll sit this one out.

I'd waited for Seth Jones...better than Trouba

They're both great young players. With 7 d-men already on the roster, it's important they add another stud d-man to round out the squad and they couldn't go wrong with either (obviously injuries and availability pending). If they could have a d-core led by Faulk, Krug and Trouba or Jones it would be a major coup.

Wilson, Smith do not have a contract for next season.

Yep, which is unfortunate because the team needs forwards and I'm sure USAH would gladly take both. Given their contract status I wouldn't imagine they'd play but I'd love for Smith to prove me wrong since he's been amazing about answering the call.

We have a starting goalie: Connor Hellebuyck was just added to the team as expected.

EDIT: Beaten to it!

Finally a decent goalie! Not what we wanted but we'll take it.

Man, Tyler Johnson really didn't want to be on the brink of joining this team. I'm torn. I want some of our great young players like Johnson, Gaudreau and Jones to keep chugging along in the playoffs because it's better for their long term development. But as a USAH fan, I selfishly want them to play here too.

having Tyler Johnson would be huge for the States, that man is a beast. Arguably contender for the #1 center at olympics/world cup.

I can't bring myself to "root" for any of the teams with these players on them to lose. There's just clearly more value for these players, on multiple levels, to making it deep into the playoffs. I feel the same way about vets who've answered the call multiple time, like Craig Smith. I'm happy to see him have a shot at a playoff run.

That said, we'll obviously need a few more top 6 forwards for this team to have any chance at being competitive so I hope they show up, whoever they are.
