WC: 2015 — Team Finland

Yea I know. That was kinda sarcastic comment that maybe if KoJo would have said thanks but no thanks to Konna we might have had Koskiranta. I'm also amazed that Enlund (declined) and Salminen didn't make the team. Some kind of problems with the coaching maybe?
 
Another year, another failure, as inevitable as the tides. Maybe if we're lucky Nashville and Florida fail to make the playoffs and we get another good shot at a medal again.
 
What the **** really. Kontiola played no center game. Played no D. Wasn't very good on the dot. Could not skate. Who wouldn't you have instead of him?

Salminen departed under mysterious circumstances. Could've been a personal life thing. Could've been a conflict. Could've been aliens. Can't really say anything productive about it.

In the end there weren't many options for this team. Ristolainen and Palola were the only controversial omissions.

Yeah, because it reeeally matters whether you play in the nominal "first" line in Team Finland rather than the nominal fourth. No player has a reason to decline because of that. Look how much how it slowed Kemppainen down or hindered his minutes.

If that really was Koskiranta's reason not to come and battle for a spot to show how much more capable he is than Mr. Disaster Season Kontiola, he's the kind of crybaby we wouldn't have wanted anywhere near the team anyway.

So yeah, highly unlikely that was the reason.

At least Jukka's sauna buddies weren't dragged along...
 
Marjamäki should just take over the national team now. Jalonen doesn't have any balls to leave the old guys out.

Time to move on from Immonen/Kontiola/Aaltonen/Pesonen just like we moved along from Hentunen/Pärssinen etc back in the day.

Marjamäki-Tirkkonen for the future and more straight forward hockey and less these slow starts (viivelähtö)!
 
This was rather mediocre tournament from us - the margins are small, but we didn't have our best game in the quarterfinals. As to the endless selection criticisms, I am rather sick and tired of those fans who really seem to think that they would be better coaches than our top professionals. It is kind of Comic Book Guy besserwisserism. If it were so easy and selfevident then the fans would be there celebrating championships every year instead of having no responsibility and no risk in their anynomous posts on the net.

At least to my eyes, Marjamäki does not seem to play a very straight-forward style. Good coach, but not that different from what we have had for years.

Let KJ play out his contract. We didn't win this, but it wasn't awful. Just one bad game in the tournament and most of the new players he selected did very well. Hopefully he gets confidence from this and picks more young players next time.

As is the custom on the moment of defeat, we have five million armchair coaches who would have made better picks than our actual one.


But let's see if that really would have been the case...

Goalies: I'm sure the nation agrees we had the right trio out there. Maybe somebody wants to nag about not having Koskinen there, but what difference does it make when Rinne is going to play all the games he can anyway?

Defense: Ristolainen was the hot potato. However, most people called for Mäntylä's head before the games, when the real issues were with Jaakola and Ohtamaa. So we likely wouldn't have seen any better play if the fans had had their way, because those two would still have been out there.

Forwards, centres: Before the games, we really had no better ones available. If there had been, Kontiola and Immonen should have gone out the door, but when your options are limited to players like Hirschovits, I.Filppula and Mika Niemi, you need some serious hindsight to say they would have been better picks.

Forwards, wingers: Here we can have a legitimate debate. Should Palola and/or Salminen have made it, instead of Louhivaara or Pesonen? Maybe. Ruutu, Pihlström and Aaltonen were subpar, but they were among the consensus picks, so bringing them up here is more hindsight. However, if we had had Palola/Salminen out there, their role could have been diminished so it may have lead to improved quality of play.


To sum things up - if we want to criticize, we can criticize Jalonen for some questionable picks to play wing. Other than that, he really had enough foresight to pick the best team available to him, because the parts the fans would have replaced would not have been the right ones, still leaving some bad apples in.
 
rantanen-puljujärvi-granlund-barkov-määttä-ristolainen-vatanen-honka-pokka-rask-saros= atleast our future is looking better than in a long time and hopefully we can enjoy these guys in future tournaments.

Finally looks like we are going to have some top talent and maybe even scoring talent. Also D looking very strong potentially.

It was embarrassing to hear how they called Barkov line as our 2nd line and Kontiola 1st :shakehead

Time to move forward and let the kids play and grow.

Have to say that it was fantastic to see Barkov, taking the lead at 19y, he's going to be a beast and selke finalist soon.
Also it was nice to see kemppainen/lindell/donskoi playing so well.

The best Dman in the team. Hands down.
