Ugh, RR had pretty bad preparation games, but he was the only one who could manhandle people around the goal crease. He would have been very useful against physical teams. They rather pick average KHL players than a guy who played 20 minutes a game in the NHL. Picking a midget who has had a bad season like Mäntylä instead of Ristolainen does not seem smart to me.

Preliminary games seem to be the kiss of death for our youngsters. Maybe if they'd just stay on the sidelines (fake an injury or something), they'd make the team by status only.

By actually skating alongside our glorious eurostars before the team is named they're practically begging the coach to stack the deck against 'em.

About Risto, he and Vatanen are our only two d-men who in the big games plays to win when the rest plays not to lose. And can our coaches even once look beyond this year, no disrespect to WCH. My guess is Jalonen is going to pick guys like Ohtamaa, Salmela and Mäntylä ahead of RR even in to the World Cup in 2016, because " He doesn't have much of NT expierience"

RR wasn't good enough for Erkka last year either. He also threw out Pokka and TT and filled the team with grinder wingers. I agree that a few games shouldn't determine the fate of any player, their entire season should be evaluated and taken into account while making these choices. I would trade Jokipakka, Ohtamaa, Mäntylä or Salmela for Ristolainen in a heartbeat. The only thing that is missing from this farce is that OJ and his 10 regular season points join the team based on status.

Ugh really disappointed that Ristolainen didn't make it. But he has no one else to blame than himself. He was very poor on those two games against Czech who had very good team. Jokipakka played himself to the team and i was very impressed how fast he adapted to big ice.

And as we all know, finnish national teams don't take players who are young and promising just because. They take the best players no matter what age.
