It may give the team some extra confidence that we are more serious about going far when we have more NHL'ers coming, but let's not forget it's European rink and they've been playing in NA sized rink all season, so that's a little minus, but it should be fine after few games I guess.

So I got the impression that Ristolainen & Jokipakka play Thursday and Jokinen & Barkov arrive on Friday. The second Russia game is on Saturday, so I wonder if they'll actually play Saturday.

It's just good if they don't play yet, because they're in the final team anyway, so it's better to give borderline players more time to show what they're able to do, especially against a stronger team like Russia. It may also help KJ to decide how many players he'll be waiting for from 1st round of NHL playoffs.

I wonder if the Devils GM saying Ruutu is going is good enough for a confirmation? (At the very end of the vid, 10:25 mark.)

Speed shouldn't be an issue in Barkov's case at least. Dunno how, but he's found an extra gear to his game this season. Catches up on the backcheck and joining in on the rush so easily these days.

Agreed and there's no need to risk injury since they're going to be on the final roster anyway. Also if Barkov arrives on Friday, he's still going to feel the affects of jet lag the next day.

NHL line? xD

Komarov - Barkov - Jokinen
Jokipakka - Ristolainen

Yeah Komarov has proven that he can play as a top 6 forward but I still see him as a third or fourth liner in the national team. In the national team the bottom 6 guys usually get plenty of ice time, so he can contribute offensively from there too. In my head, I've placed Palola alongside Jokinen and Barkov. Palola brings some speed and scoring + maybe a bit of chemistry with Barkov from their Tappara days

i hope that Rask says yes. if not, i'd rather get Niemi than Lehtonen. after sitting all the matches in Sochi it would be perfect time for him to shine as #1. maybe he wants to prove something and finds extra gear.

Did Palola ever play with Barkov? I thought it was Nieminen and token third guy who should play on a lower line..

Jokinen - Barkov - Palola could be sweet though!

I'd rather have Salminen with Barkov but we'll see.

Salminen-Barkov-Ruutu
Jokinen-Kontiola-Aaltonen
Komarov-Kemppainen-Donskoi
Hartikainen-Immonen-Pihlström
+Palola, Hytönen

I remembered Palola playing with Barkov before but now that i think of it, you're right, they didn't... :shakehead But yeah, could still be a nice line I think!

Looks like Rask isn't coming http://www.suomikiekko.com/2015/04/...ei-kuulostanut-olevan-hanen-suunnitelmissaan/ Well lets hope Niemi or Lehtonen comes.

Lehtonen doesn't seem to come very likely either. Lehtonen will start training immediately for the next season according to Dallas Morning News.

While those comments don't sound good, neither of them is not an exactly explicit "no" either. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Even if neither of those two is a no-show, we'll still have Niemi's answer forthcoming, and I guess a goalie from playoffs is also a possibility. None will be released with absolute certainty, though. Hawks vs. Preds has Raanta and Rinne, but the former could be Rockford bound in case of a Chicago exit. And Rinne could be exhausted in any case.

I'd say getting Rämö from Flames vs. Nucks would be the most likely shot in such a case.

Regardless, with the way Koskinen is currently playing, wouldn't feel even slightly bummed with him in net. He's by and far the best goalie in Europe right now, and that's counting all nationalities.

No he hasn't. He has played top-6 minutes yes, he hasn't made the lines worse yes.. But he'd miss the net even if it was the size of a barn door! We can afford that in the bottom 6, those guys job is to be energetic and active and fight for the puck over and over again - but the top 6 will be generating enou chances for us to win, no matter who we play against. Most pressing need in top-6 is to put the puck into the net.

We van ill afford to throw away scoring chances, Komarov in top-6 means a ton of chances thrown away. Granted he will create some chances, but seriously, I would take ANY top-3, top-6 winger from Liiga in his place for a top-6 position. ANY.

For the bottom 6, Komarov is my first choice. That's just the way it is.

??????

No sense what so ever...
Kontiola 2nd line center?,Immonen in 4th?
- 2 good games for Leijonat,doesn't
take away the fact that "konna" has sucked
the entire season,in my team there's no Kontiola.

Immonen plays second with Ruutu and with hopefully
Ja Pesonen,Pesonen-Immonen-Ruutu works,has
worked in the past, will work again

Neither Donskoi nor Kemppainen are in
even if they are playing pretty darn good hockey,
they'd be facing 4th line, max, with team finland
and that wouldn't suit for them at all.

First line could be: Komarov-Barkov-Jokinen
someone suggested Komarov-Barkov-Palola...
not bad,it'd be interesting if nothing else.

both Komarov and Jokinen can play center too,
and play 3rd line.

1st line could be Kiiskinen/Salminen-Barkov-Palola
third Komarov/Ha Pesonen/Pihlstrom-Jokinen/Komarov-Pihlstrom/Hartikainen

Konna should be out. I don't get the overrating he always gets. Players should be evaluated on how they play the big games against big countries. Few slick passes in pre tournament games against Germany isn't reason to expect much from him after this season. I still see him as a disappear guy in tough games against big countries.

But if he's in anyway, by all means I hope the best for him.

Komarov shouldn't be in 1st line. Palola should be there. I know that JJ-AB konnection didin't work at panthers but I wouldn't be surprised if there was JJ-Barkov-Palola first line.

Myself I'd seperate JJ and Barkov, which means JJ would be cemented in 2nd line.

Aaltonen - Barkov - Palola wouldn't be bad. An actual 1st line. Huhtala should make the team, he has surprisingly good offensive game.

It's kinda funny reading these temper tantrums, concerning how useless they are. No matter how much hot air we spew, in the end the following is going to happen...

Barkov and Jokinen are on the same line.
Kontiola-JMA will make up the base of our 2nd line.
Salminen-Immonen are one couple (likely 3rd) line.
Donskoi and Kemppainen make it too - it's just a bit up in the air whether they'll be in the regular lineup or as extras.

Note, I don't necessarily agree with all of these points, but some people are going to look very silly for so vehemently telling us it's outlandish to suggest said things.

Immonen plays second with Ruutu and with hopefully
Ja Pesonen,Pesonen-Immonen-Ruutu works,has
worked in the past, will work again
I can't for the life of me recall such a line being together. When was it?

If the coaching staff has followed them at all this season, they won't be.

Jokinen-Barkov-<whoever was playing with them (there was at least 4 guys that tried there before Gallant realised to get JJ the **** off that line)> was an unmitigated disaster and lead to Barkov's early season slump.

No argument from me, but if the team dynamics stay as they are now, I don't see a more "obvious" slot for Jokinen. Besides, it's a different team, different game plan and therefore wholly different circumstances. Saying those two sucked together in the Cats is a valid point, but unless we get a centre from the STL-MIN pair, they'll likely try it anyway.

Coaches are funny like that. No matter how much a random fan kicks and screams and says "this won't happen", it has decent chances of happening anyway.

I understand the doubts if Kontiola is useful for Team Finland in this tournament. I don't, however, get the bashing against Kontiola regarding some past tournaments. It's really weird how things can be seen. In 2013 Kontiola was the leading scorer of the tournament and a key player in QF, and still he's bashed because he wasn't as good in last two games. This can happen only in Finland. Nothing is really enough.

Finland has been in the WHC final 9 times in last 25 years and won two of them. I guess it's quite typical that many players seem to "disappear" because only two team can get to finals. And it's not just in Team Finland. Team Canada has 5 consecutive QF exits and still they've been generally good in round robin since 2011. Canada has a way better player material and still the players have disappeared in QFs. How's that? Is it that they're (in 2013 there were guys like Stamkos, Giroux, 2xStaal, Skinner, Eberle, Duchene) not just good enough to play against stronger teams in WHC and should be banned from the tournaments?

If being the leading scorer of a tournament isn't good enough performance in Team Finland, then what should be expected from NHL stars in Team Canada.

On the other, do you remember last spring? The team wasn't scoring enough in round robin to win even those lesser teams, and barely made to QFs. Everyone complaint how crappy players there were. I guess many fans take for granted that Finland makes to QFs and those goals in round-robin come like "manulle illallinen". No, they don't come like that. Someone must score also in round-robin to win games.

In 2013 it's was largely due to Kontiola that Finland got top seed and got easier opponent to QF and Kontiola helped team Finland to SF. Without Kontiola I guess Finland would have had stronger opponent in QF and could have quite likely been eliminated already in QF.

Still some people see nothing else but how Kontiola "disappeared" in last two games of that tournament. It's same time quite sad and also tells how ridiculous the expectations can be. Apparently Kontiola alone should have won the whole tournament for Finland.

Finnish soccer team can just dream of players who could score even against weaker opponents than Finland itself is. In ice hockey the expectations seem to be in heavens.

Whether we like it or not, Kontiola will very likely be in the team. However, now he doesn't need carry the whole team. Maybe he can now just surf until semis and be a key player in last two games, and Barkov, for example, can be blamed of disappearing. There's a thin line between being a hero or "a hollow man" in the last games.

Oh c'mon! This is HFBoards. Common sense is forbidden. There actually is a rule against it. At least I think there is, if we look at the evidence commonly available.

I wouldn't say that he's considerably better than Salak or Nilsson. With that said, I certainly hope one of the NHL goalies will join the team.

Having two excellent goalies is better than having one, naturally. Still, even if Koskinen is "only" in Europe's top-three, no one should question his back-stopping abilities.
