It's understandable but still incredibly disappointing that Mason couldn't play because he wanted to make sure he was healthy for next year. I would have loved to see him play in this tournament after having such a great year.

I was surprised at the amount of Canadians at the game. Unlike the World Juniors there usually aren't that many Canadians in the crowd for the WC.

Maybe there are a lot of expats in Prague?

I was at the game vs the Czech and I'm going on Saturday (France) :)

I am not even sure Fleury was invited. I know his wife is expecting but he mentioned not even hearing from Team Canada

Can't see Price coming over. It would be awesome, but he seems really bummed after each loss. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not keen on jumping into more hockey after his team gets eliminated. But this team would look even more amazing if Subban and Price joined.

Chemistry is one thing, but guys want to win, and adding an elite player at this stage would not be a problem in the room. Guys would welcome Subban or Price with open arms.

In particular, if Carey Price answers the call, there's not a player on Team Canada who would be upset. He's always been there for Team Canada in the past, and he is without doubt the best goaltender in the world right now. Putting him in the nets would make this team unstoppable.

Not sure if this has been mentioned(have not read thru the thread), but if PK and Price went there, they too could join the triple gold club along with Sid.

They might look at this as the best chance to get the WHC gold and also a way of saying thank you to TC for picking them for the Olympics. Sort of giving back to a lesser tournament.

But if they chose not to, that wold be understandable.

Well they still have to win the Cup.

I think at this point an elite D/G (Subban/Price) that would instantly be starting locks, or insurance/backup players who wouldn't mind a trip to Prague to possibly ride a bench to play in case of injuries (which do happen at this tournament) would be the best path forward. Adding a middling player to push another middling player out at this point is not ideal.

Ya, World Junior gold is not considered 1 of the 3 in the Triple Gold Club. I don't know why it is even a thing the IIHF promotes though... granted the NHL is the best league in the world and the SC is the hardest team trophy to win, but it is just another league.

But let's say U20 Gold, Olympic gold and WHC gold is a quasi Triple Gold Club.

I was refering to:

WJC Gold-have
Olympic Gold-have
WHC Gold-need

Edit:My mistake...I actually thought it was just for these 3 and Gold medals. Honestly didn't know the Stanley cup was there instead of the WJC. I learned something new.

I assume the IIHF promotes it because it elevates their tournament (World Championship) by putting it near the Olympics and Stanley Cup in importance. Of course the whole thing doesn't make sense. The world's best international tournament, the world's best league tournament... and another international tournament.

Olympics, World Championship and World Juniors would actually make sense since they are all at least international tournaments put on by the IIHF. The list would be filled with Soviets players, though some Canadians would be there. Off the top of my head - Sakic, Niedermayer, Pronger, Kariya, Bergeron, Toews, Iginla.

List of guys who could be available if MTL/MIN/NYR/CGY all get eliminated. Would have to assume Price/Subban as locks if MTL was eliminated and they said yes. Only including D and G since we have enough F.

Goalies:
Price*
Tokarski
Talbot
Dubnyk

Defenseman:
Subban*
Dumba
Spurgeon
Scandella
Boyle
Girardi
Staal
Brodie
Russell
Wideman
Klein

Isn't Hamhuis on the team? Has a letter too if I recall correctly.

Edit, says list of guys available my bad.

Getzlaf has a U18, U20, and Olympic Gold. Plus a Stanley Cup as does Perry (minus the U18).

I wonder if anyone has a minor Triple Gold (U20, Calder, NCAA/CHL).

Anyone good enough to be on a gold medal U20 team probably doesn't stay in the lower leagues long enough to have many shots at a championship in the others.

Mike Richards won all three minor championships.

his wife is expecting there second child soon

I also wouldn't hold it against him if HC asked him, and he declined seeing as how he was left off the 2014 Olympic team.

Was one of the few from 2010 that weren't asked back iirc.

How about the Quadruple Gold Club: Stanley Cup, WC, Olympics, WJC

Toews
Niedermayer
Sakic
Richards
Pronger
Kariya
Modin (!!!!!)
Forsberg

Looks like Subban and Price aren't quite done yet. Now I'm hoping for Marc Staal and Dubnyk or Talbot.

does anyone literally have ALL of em?

U18 - U20 - NCAA/Memorial Cup - Calder cup - WHC - Stanley Cup - Olympic gold
7 championships? anything else belong here, and does anyone have it?

Mike Richards?

Could throw in the Canada/World Cup too.

Richards isn't on that list. Larionov and Fetisov are though (twice each) along with Bergeron.

Richards did not win the World Championship or U18. That would be a tricky list to make, since you have to be an elite player but not too elite (otherwise most likely not a lot of AHL time, and they also would likely miss the U18). For Canadians the U18 part is very unlikely. Canada won in 2003, 2008 and 2013, but most of the players did not amount to being stars. Getzlaf has U18, WJC, Stanley Cup and Olympics. Carter has U18, WJC, Calder Cup, Stanley Cup, Olympics. I don't know if anyone is closer than Carter and Richards (each missing two pieces) since the advent of the U18 in 1999. Eberle has U18 and WJC and Hall has U18 and Memorial Cup, so in theory each could get to five of those accomplishments.
